If Hillary won the Right wouldn't have reacted in such a childish, emotional, violent way.
I think that's a very baseless and unfounded statement indicating a good amount of bias.
It's also a very redundant thing to say, considering we won.
If something is extremely baseless, unfounded and redundant, why say it at all?

Gotta say that British universities have pretty nice waiting music on their phone systems. I've been connecting to a conference call with professors from some of their universities and the music is pretty sweet and much better than the average elevator tier themes.
Probably some EU Regulation requiring this though, I wager.

I was neither. The elections of a country on the other side of the world don't matter much to me on their own, so I'm pretty indifferent to the outcome there. But I am somewhat worried. Not so much by this particular instance, but rather by the fact that anti-intellectualism and this kind of vague and baseless rhetoric actually manages to convince people and catch on in Western developed nations. That's what bothers me much more than whatever person gets elected at the end of a largely broken political system.

voting should be mandatory in a democracy.
Absolutely not. Too many low info voters is what gave us Trump vs. Clinton.
That's more of an issue with information and education rather than mandatory voting though.
Yeah but forcing a bunch of disinterested people to vote is just going to worsen problems caused by low-info voting.
That's definitely an argument to be made, but I think countries with mandatory voting don't necessarily do bad when it comes to that.

The United States does not recognize the popular vote because we are, from conception, a Democratic Federation.
States choose who will be in power, and consider the choices of their citizens heavily, but ultimately, the United States is a union of pseudo-sovereign states, not a nation or country made up of individuals, making it more similar to a more tight knit EU. Of course, you know this, but I feel like when people bring the popular vote up this needs to be reinforced.
As when Lincoln, or Bush won, and as republicans tend to spark in tight races, there will likely be divisiveness in the months to come, but there have always been events which brought together and galvanized the American people. Maybe people should stop thinking to themselves that it is the adversity that binds us together, because if you have ever been part of something not everyone is committed to it will always break under pressure. The truth is, Americans love America, no matter how far gone it may seem, there is always hope for a brighter tomorrow if we continue to hold on to it together.
Well yeah, I know all of that as you said. I just think you may be underestimating the divisiveness here. I think that more so than pretty much ever before, many people voted for what they thought was the lesser of two evils. They voted against someone rather than for. This wasn't a traditional 'our candidate thinks X which is better than the Y of the other candidate'. People could hardly even see the other side as a legitimate candidate. On the one hand, many thought that Clinton should be in jail or not even allowed to run because of how corrupt she is, the things she's been involved and how the DNC treated other candidates. On the other, many thought that Trump shouldn't even have been able to run as a he is a wholly unqualified, incompetent and ignorant clown buying a campaign with not an an ounce of presidential qualities in him. Will the people bond together over the next mass shooting? Sure. Will there be USA chants and fireworks on your national holiday? Of course. But for the first time in recent history, I think you had a campaign where millions upon millions of people did not even consider the other guy as an actually valid candidate, rather than just someone with different ideas from another party. This campaign has been so divided and so filled with hate, vitriol and scandals that I do fear you might have a much bigger divide on your hands than you might think and that your president might not even be fully acknowledged as such by many of his people. You already saw that to a certain extent with Obama and the constant attacks on him as a president, and Trump is probably only going to be a lot worse.

Cool, #NotMyPresident is already trending on Twitter.
the best part is that the people denouncing him are largely the same people who were raising a fuss about Trump potentially refusing to accept a Clinton victory.
The social Left are a bunch of children.
Go on /pol/ right now and tell me they aren't acting like children.
Also, this. It's one thing to say people are acting like children or sore losers because their candidate lost, but an ungracious winner looking to kick and humiliate a beaten opponent is equally immature and unpleasant.
This is why I liked Trump's victory speech so much. It seemed like he was stepping across the isle to say "We just had a really nasty fight, but I want to be your friend".
This has been one of the most divisive years in American history since the Civil War. I really hope we can start building bridges and stop this identarian shit.
Not a chance. After a campaign fought with so much vitriol and hate, there will not be many bridges built. As I said once before, Trump is a true demagogue and, in my opinion, should never have even been considered for presidency. Clinton won the popular vote and more so than ever before, you have a millions of voters on either side who voted just to stop the other and picked the lesser of two evils just to stop the other one from happening. And now, a majority of voters get to see a man they don't even consider a proper candidate for the other party but just a man who is so incompetent, ignorant and inadequate to lead a country win the election. Trump winning has almost guaranteed the 'identarian shit' to prosper and create a deeper divide than pretty much ever before.
Frankly, I think Trump has a much better chance at stopping it than Clinton did. I'd explain why, but it'd be a longass post and I have to go to class in a few. I might make a thread later.
I'd say it's probably the opposite. Trump's whole thing of "wow he says it like it is without being PC like the rest" doesn't win him many friends. There's always a chance that he'll tone it down now, but his loudmouth, offensive and disrespectful attitude along with personal attacks on pretty much everyone he doesn't like has sealed the deal for many. Clinton isn't all that likable either, but she's still a reasonably well-spoken and generally polite older lady. Some programs here and there to increase transparency and address the biggest gripes people have with her would likely go a long way. On the other hand, people dislike Trump for his personality, ignorance and poor character. It's a whole lot easier to make some things public, go big on dealing with confidential files better and distancing yourself from big corporations by launching a project or 2, then it is to convince all these people that your very unpresidential behavior, lack of common decency and poor qualifications were just temporary. Both have had their fair share of damaging scandals, but I think Trump's character and behavior throughout the campaign has really made it hard for the ones who voted against him change their opinion.

You'd be sperging out too if you accidentally set in motion events leading to the election of a human meme using the magical powers of an ancient cartoon frog just because you thought his tweets were funny.
I think the people who were actually in this for the memes are just dumb and possibly crazy.
I'm talking about people talking in a way that is legitimately worrying. "Haha California is trying to secede, let's a few nukes on these degenerates niggers... No that isn't cruel enough, let's set up some concentration camps for all these liberals".
You can tell when people are posting memes, and then there's these other posts. Posts from legitimate racists and neo nazis who think they're "taking their country back". It's really sickening.
nigga you need to stop taking /pol/ so seriously.
Nobody is trying to nuke Cali.
Obviously not dude. Do I look fucking retarded to you? It's the attitude. That even after they won, they're still so full of hate.
Like I said, don't take /pol/ seriously, especially not today. This is the equivalent of a YouTube comment section on cocaine. They've always been like this, but it's amplified by the sheer improbability of what's transpired over the last year and a half.
There's a lot more hate in the world. And now they feel validated.
You'll see.
It's not unlikely you're going to see a brexit effect. While probably overstated, there's statistics and reason to suggest a pretty significant spike in hate crimes following the vote. And then there's the instances of people leaving messages telling immigrants to go home at schools and things like that. /pol/ is a pretty bad example, but it's not unlikely that the election will validate and embolden people with these extremist views.

That isn't saying that you are like that, but I do think that being an ungracious winner is just as bad as a sore loser. If you won, then great. Be happy. But do so with some dignity and imagine what it'd be like had the roles been reversed. A lot of people are completely devastated right now and rather than kicking them when they're down, rubbing it in and laughing at their misfortune, it's in everyone's best interest to show good sportmanship instead of salting the wound and creating an even larger divide. It's common human decency and the fact that so many people are trying to put others down, taking joy in their disappointment and actively seeking to make things worse by humiliating them instead of being courteous about it is as disturbing to me as the outcome of this election.

In all fairness, there's a very significant difference between supporters complaining about an outcome they were not hoping for, and the unprecedented event of an actual candidate refusing to accept the outcome of a fair democratic process just because he lost.

What a stain on this great nation.
I'm just gonna go ahead and say that this gives me the right to criticize and mock this idiocy without it being (apparently) stereotypical anti-American banter. This display of stupidity is a perfectly valid reason to tank the faith I had left in the general American people even further.
The people lob a hand grenade at the establishment for sneering at them, and your solution is to sneer more?
Seeing how I'm neither the establishment nor looking to provide a solution: yes. Do I think that the 'establishment' has a massive image problem and is at least partially responsible for bringing this upon themselves? Yes. Is it going to stop me from saying that it's stupid to do stupid things, even if it means that the people doing these stupid things will get flustered and feel validated? No. We're on a backwater internet forum where I don't think a single honest discussion about the American elections has led to anything constructive. It's not as if this will matter to or change anyone.

Trying to come up with ways in which I could be more ashamed of my country. Having a lot of trouble.
If it makes you feel any better, the fact that he even made it this far already ruined the way many people look at your country. Sure, there's a difference between him actually winning and getting both the nomination and a ton of support during the campaign, but the shameful part has been there for a long time. I was talking about this with some of coworkers earlier today (one of them an American) and it seems that even if Hillary would've won, the mere fact that a man like Trump made it this far is plenty to be ashamed about.

Canadian border's always open folks.
Canada's immigration website has crashed due to the amount of people actually trying to move there.
Funny thing is, if the states goes up in flames then Canada would follow. My country's gonna feel the wrath of the god emperor too.
Happy to be separated by an ocean.
Better laugh it up while you can before you get taken out by a radical allah praiser.
Trying to! Always look on the bright side of life and never underestimate the power of collective stupidity.

Anyone else looking forward to every Quickplay match having at least 6 Sombras at all times?
You didn't hear? QP is getting the 1-hero limit. An arcade mode without the restriction is going to replace it for über-casual shenanigans.
Oh damn, that's pretty cool. Didn't hear about this yet. Haven't played Overwatch since the end of the Halloween event because of how crappy my PC handles it.
