Can't say I'd agree, but both stand to lose.

I don't want to live detached from civilisation but I do like the idea of living in a rural community.
Seriously fuck cities.
The only good city is just a really large town.
Aye. Colchester's just about small enough for me.
I've always liked Worcester because it doesn't feel like a city.
It's got a nice peaceful air to it, rather than the chicken run bedlam of brummayyyyyy.
Worcester? From the famous Warchestershree sauce?

Why stop at just one? Maybe banning 10 people at once will boost activity tenfold.

Ehm.

How do you say "verwaandheid" in Dutch?
As in pronunciation? Ver-wahn-theijt. No clue about the last part because it's not a sound in the English language.

OP, I appreciate the consistency. I think people here change their username and avatars too often. Avatar change? Fine. But when you change your username, its like you are trying to hide from people unless they know your user number.

What is up with your name?
It says "Romans go home" sir.
What the fuck. People called Romanes they go the house? Romanus becomes Romani in plural, eunt is just third plural of eo instead of the correct form ite and domus is the place you're going towards so it becomes the accusative domum.

Romani ite domum is what you're looking for. Now write it 100 times by sunrise or I'll cut off your balls.

Guys it was all just pol playing 4d chess again.

Color me skeptical.

It makes too much sense.
I want off this multidimensional ride.
Am I missing something or does this entire story really just relies on the word of a random anon saying that he fed this information to Buzzfeed well after the fact? Because if so, I'm going to be even more skeptical about this than I am about the Trump implications.

The original 4chan post about the piss is in November, so either early drafts of this were circulated by the news and some anon decided to take credit, or that part is true and you can disregard that paragraph of the report, at least.

It is deeply hypocritical how the media is treating this, immediately after a month-long stink about fake news -- not that many actually give a shit about anything but posting headlines that get page views.
Where is the original post? The only thing I'm seeing is a 4chan post in November saying that the informants are taking "it". I see no mention of anything concrete. Just a random anonymous guy claiming he fed informants something which I'm not seeing specified. Unless there is actual proof of him coming up with this before the election, this is just taking a /pol/ anon's word for it. Even sites like the Daily Beast make clear that there are zero details about what lies were supposedly told to an informant who then supposedly fed it to intelligence agencies (which he has already denied). I very much doubt the accuracy of the report, but this seems more like 4chan anons trolling by pretending they leaked this fake news. "See this post from November where we claim we got intelligence agencies to believe lies? Well, the vague post specifying or proving nothing was actually talking about this exact thing!"

Also, so I read all the notes and all that, but how is Comey in a bad spot because of this? Was he in cahoots too?
Because if true, this could mean that the FBI chose to announce that they were going to continue the Clinton email investigation just days before the election, while they had been sitting on intelligence reports implicating Trump for weeks without doing anything with them. Apples and oranges, obviously, but them keeping information to themselves that could've changed the outcome of the election while dealing big blows to Clinton's credibility just days before the election isn't likely to sit well with everyone.

A more apt and suitable punishment would be tossing him in a prison with a bunch of Tyrone's until his arsehole is capable of whistling.

He showed no remorse, says he still believes it was right, and made no attempt to defend against the death penalty. I'd be surprised if he survives until his execution date.
High profile prisoners like him and especially those on death row are usually closely guarded and typically have zero contact with other inmates due to them being kept isolated. I'd be more surprised if he would get killed before his execution.

but I can't condone the death penalty.
You don't really need to; the only thing that would be unreasonable would be believing the punishment is disproportionate.
Yeah, I don't think it's disproportionate for cases like this. Clearly, it's proportional to his own murderous actions. But to me, that still doesn't make it justifiable.

On a semi-related note, 2015 saw a pretty drastic increase in the amount of executions performed. It was a 50% increase over 2014 and the highest total number in 25 years. Thankfully, most of it can be attributed to a handful of countries in the Middle East. Another few countries abolished it entirely and the US again saw a drop in total executions and capital convictions.

And all the Trumpists fell in line and kissed Putin's grubby little arse.
Meta you just don't understand. Clinton was THIS close to causing a full-blown world war 3 by considering a no-fly zone, okay? Russia interfering in the election process and clearly pushing its preferred candidate who was shaping up to be best buddies with Putin is a GOOD thing that could have absolutely no potentially negative side effects. Fucking hell man, get your head of the mainstream media's ass.

That aside, this could indeed be very big. I'm curious to hear the end of the whole Russian interference saga, no matter what it ends up being.

That's fucking bizzare to me. I mean, I could see it as an elective... if your school has an olympic pool (our school's (very small) swim team traveled to the local municipal pool for practice/meets), but as a mandatory class strikes me as absolutely weird.

LC, I assume it took the place of a normal PE class for the duration of it?
I don't get how it's so strange that young children are taught a pretty fundamental and potentially life saving skill in school. We had it like once every 2-3 weeks. The ones who already could swim just got to mess around or do laps while the kids who didn't were taught to at least be able to swim a decent distance. I was in the top group and swam the maximum distance of 1.5 miles when I was 9 (you're supposed to only do 1 by the time you turn 13) so I got to the advanced stuff like swimming in clothes, lifeguard training and rescuing those dummy dolls. Shit was cash.

Oh yeah and my mom got me an ice cream cone with like 3 or 4 scoops because I was the first one at my school to do that. Good times.

Just asked my girlfriend and she confirmed you don't learn how to swim in American schools. That's kinda strange.

Every state is different and even in different states different schools can be different. In my school there was a swimming class as part of your second year in high school.
Yeah, I know. Was it optional or mandatory? Second year of high school seems awfully late to learn how to swim.

I'm confused... Mandatory swimming lessons as part of the normal school curriculum?
Literally what. You don't learn to swim through school? I mean, most kids here just learn it with their parents or through private swimming lessons, but it's taught in middle school by default so that you can swim at least 1 kilometer by the time you turn 12. Pretty sure it's mandatory too, unless you can show that you can already swim.

BBC News.

Quote
Switzerland has won a case at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) obliging Muslim parents to send their children to mixed swimming lessons.

It said authorities were justified in giving precedence to enforcing "the full school curriculum" and the children's "successful integration" into society. The ECHR acknowledged that religious freedom was being interfered with. But judges said it did not amount to a violation.

The case was brought by two Swiss nationals, of Turkish origin, who refused to send their teenage daughters to the compulsory mixed lessons in the city of Basel. Education officials, however, said that exemptions were available only for girls who had reached the age of puberty - which the girls had not reached at the time.

In 2010, after a long-running dispute, the parents were ordered to pay a combined fine of 1,400 Swiss Francs ($1,380, £1,136) "for acting in breach of their parental duty". They argued that such treatment was a violation of article nine of the European Convention on Human Rights, which covers the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.

In a statement, the ECHR said the refusal to exempt the girls had interfered with the right to freedom of religion. But it also said the law involved was designed to "protect foreign pupils from any form of social exclusion" and Switzerland was free to design its education system according to its own needs and traditions. Schools, it said, played an important role in social integration, and exemptions from some lessons are "justified only in very exceptional circumstances".

In 2016, officials in Basel suspended the citizenship process for the family of two teenage Muslim brothers who refused to shake hands with female teachers. Switzerland has also applied the law to other cases - a man of Bosnian origin was fined last year for refusing to allow his daughter to take part in swimming lessons during school hours, among other activities. Germany also battled with the issue of mixed swimming lessons in 2013, when a judge ruled that a 13-year-old girl must attend - but allowed the wearing of a burkini. In France, in 2009, a woman was banned from swimming in a public pool in her burkini. That would be followed in 2016 by a controversial official ban on the garment in public spaces - which was eventually overturned by French courts. France, Belgium, and the Netherlands all have bans on Muslim veils in public, to varying degrees."

Accordingly, the children's interest in a full education, thus facilitating their successful social integration according to local customs and mores, prevailed over the parents' wish to have their children exempted from mixed swimming lessons," the court said. The court also noted that "very flexible arrangements" had been offered as a compromise, including allowing the girls to wear burkinis during lessons rather than traditional swimwear, and allowing them to change clothes with no boys in the room.

Justified educational policy or judicial overreach infringing on freedom of religion?

Serious / Re: Can we talk about TYT?
« on: January 10, 2017, 03:04:54 AM »
What Turkey said. They can't be compared to the likes of FOX and MSNBC because they're not a legitimate news outlet. They're vloggers doing a show on politics and current events. Their format and approach ultimately don't change that despite them looking for that more professional and credible theme.

And that makes it a lot easier to answer your second question. I think the reason they draw viewers is a sense of belonging and confirmation bias. If you look at them not as a news outlet but as just a political webshow, that becomes a lot more clear. People watch them for the same reason people watch the likes of Alex Jones / Paul Watson, Crowder and Milo whatshisname from Breitbart. They just do so from a progressive rather than conservative point of view. They don't watch these shows to get an objective, neutral and factually accurate analysis of or insight into politics and current events. They watch because they want to fit and feel validated. They want to see someone who looks like he knows what he's talking about in a fancy show on the internet agree with them and confirm their beliefs. Someone who makes a mockery of the people they don't agree with or who takes numbers and figures at face value to draw shallow conclusions or mistake correlation for causation. It's not about getting the whole and truthful big picture or evaluating all sides fairly. It's about validation and getting a feelgood experience over others with money and an audience agreeing with them and painting things in a skewed and lopsided way which confirms their own bias. And that's why I think TYT are popular for the same reason those other guys are, even though they do try to present themselves more as an actual news outlet.

It's not 5 pages, nor is it an essay in MLA style. Hope I didn't disappoint this time.
