Thanks for the suggestions. I already have a few peripherals though. As for speakers, I have two older model logitechs too. The X-140's my dad once handed me down. They're nothing special (were like 50 USD I think) but they get the job done. I don't care much about speakers so they're perfect for casual use. I'm set in the mouse department too. I've got the amazing Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum, which is one of the best selling and performing mice there is. I don't really play any MMO's, so I'm the biggest fan of mice with too many buttons. They're rarely ever used for FPS and twitchy games, I believe. Headset I've got ready as well. I've got Audiophile Sennheiser HD 595's for music and multimedia, and for games I've got the great Sennheiser 360 Pro which I managed to get for like $90 at a sale. Keyboard however, I still need to get. So I'm open to all suggestions in that field.

Praise the Lord for secularism.
I didn't watch the video because >10 minutes of some dude rambling, but to my understanding much of why he's facing trial right now is because of the video he made and not so much the mere fact of playing Pokemon Go in the church. He made comments like "failed to catch the rarest pokemon of them all: Jesus, but they say he doesn't exist anyways".
Not that this makes it any better, but he didn't just get arrested for playing the game in a church.

- Should I go with an Asus Z170-A or -P for the motherboard?
https://www.asus.com/microsite/best-100-series-motherboards/compare/index_en.html Here's a good site to compare both.
As you can see the P variant only has 1 PCIE 3.0 slot as well as 2 fewer SATA slots. If you decide to add some more peripherals in the future than this might be a problem. Personally, I would go with the A variant.
Thanks, I am leaning towards the A myself. What do you guys think about the PSU? Is 650W enough / too much? And are other brands good choices too? I've been recommended the Ante High Current Gamer series which are quite a bit cheaper than the EVGA G2 ones. Still highly rated in the PSU tier list but not gold or fully modular.

Thank fucking God. After Brexit and Trump, I'm legit proud of my Dutch neighbors. Despite the growth of Wilders, this is a victory over division, fear mongering and populism. Fine work indeed.

Before I get back to your comments, three more questions:
- Are the differences between 1080 brands significant enough to justify the difference in price? Some are a lot more expensive than others. I've been told to just get the cheapest 1080 that isn't a blower style (such as the KFA2, Palit or MSI Armor), but not sure if that's true.
- Should I go with an Asus Z170-A or -P for the motherboard?
- Numerous people have suggested me the Cryorig H7 as a better and smaller cooler, but it is slightly more expensive. Good call or no?

I've seen a bunch of Kitsune weeb trash on PS4 lately
I thought I matched with kitsune on for honor but I guess that's an actual word. Fucking weebshits
Same thing happened to me on Xbox. I ran into a Kitsune and was about to send a message before I googled and realized it's a more general weeb thing.

I'm waiting for everyone else to comment saying what their most anticipated games for this year are, despite not even being asked about it.
Quake Champions is looking damn nice, definitely my most anticipated one so far.

I would suggest a 1070 or something at this this point, assuming you're not watercooling, as my friend stated the heat of the 1080 really fucked up his GPU after a while. They apparently run pretty hot, even with the tri-fan..
Still making my own computer myself. All I need left is the power supply. I've been putting it together piece by piece and it almost being finished makes me feel so excited.
Yeah, but being able to get the 1080 at only $75 more than the average 1070 is a pretty good deal. I'll be getting an external cooler too (obviously) and the KFA2 I'm looking at seems to have pretty good cooling.

Make sure you have enough ram for a dedicated server.
2x8 is the plan.

Do you have good cooling for your other components? The reason I ask is because if you decide to go with the dual fans then the heat is obviously going to go into the case, which may affect any overclocking you may want to achieve.
This is something I have been thinking about too. I'm going for a full sized case and one of the Evo coolers, so I suppose that would be fine?

Any particular reason you're going with a 1080 rather than a Radeon 480 or something else around $300?
Mainly performance, but I've also heard generally better things about Nvidia cards which usually seem to be the enthusiast's choice. The 1070 stood out as the best all-round card, so I was planning on getting that one for the longest time. But prices seem to have come down here recently and now I'm seeing 1080's at only around $75 more than the 1070, which is a leap I'm definitely willing to make. I'm planning on making this last for quite a while, so I'm down putting another $200 on the most expensive and (arguably) most important part of the build.

Alright, so I finished build version 17 or something. Took a lot of reading and researching, but this is what I came up with. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchantCPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor (€342.99 @ Amazon Deutschland) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler (€23.00 @ Amazon Deutschland) Motherboard: MSI Z170A PC MATE ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (€110.33 @ Mindfactory) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory (€120.89 @ Amazon Deutschland) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (€96.93 @ Mindfactory) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (€51.04 @ Amazon Deutschland) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Video Card Case: Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case (€56.41 @ Mindfactory) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Case Fan: Cooler Master SickleFlow (Blue) 69.0 CFM 120mm Fan (€6.51 @ Amazon Deutschland) Monitor: Asus VG248QE 24.0" 1920x1080 144Hz Monitor (€267.76 @ Amazon Deutschland) Total: €1650 All comments are welcome. There's a few things I'm still unsure about, so it'd be a great if anyone could help me out. - Does it all work together? PCPartPicker finds no conflicts, but that's no guarantee. I'd hate it if some of the parts wouldn't fit in the case or would block one another, or something like that. - The i7-7700k is only 7€ more expensive than the 6700k. Worth the upgrade? It looks like it might be. - What motherboard should I get? The one I linked is the cheapest of the ones I was looking at. Other options include the Asus Z170-P (20€ more) and Asus Z170-A (40€ more). Is the one I linked decent or should I upgrade to one of those or another mobo altogether? - What graphics card is recommended? The MSI Armor I linked is pretty well received and among the cheapest 1080's of the bunch. Others I'm looking at are KFA2 1080 Exoc (10€ more), EVGA SC (15€ more) and Zotac AMP (20€ more). None of them are blower type. - Finally, is the Corsair 200r a good case? I don't care much about the looks so the cheaper (while performing well) the better. The Corsair 300r is 25€ more expensive, but I don't know if it's worth the upgrade. Any other good cases with good airflow and performance in the same price class (60€, give or take)? Thanks.

Is Das buying people guns? I want one too then.
Screenshotting this and sending it to every major law journal in europe.
What if it's an American law journal? Maybe I'll get bonus points then.
>American law journals >being anything but liberal media
I don't think I've seen any clear political bias in any peer reviewed legal journal, tbh.

What aboot Unreal Tournament?
Just to clarify, are you asking my opinion on the upcoming Unreal Tournament game or the 20 year old "Quake vs. Unreal" debate?
Why not both?
I'll be brief. I've played several UT games and enjoyed them all. They're great and fun arena shooters. Yet still, Quake has always been my favorite. UT's movement just doesn't do it for me. It's much slower and feels clunky when compared to Quake which is considerably faster, smoother and more varied (<3 strafe jumping). While UT has more weapons that are typically in play, many of them come across as gimmicky and their secondary fire is pretty pointless in my opinion. Quake's weapons are the most balanced out of any game I've ever played. The core guns check all the right boxes and just work so well. You have the holy trinity of Rocket Launcher, Lightning Gun and Railgun in combination with the Shotgun, Grenade Launcher, Gauntlet, Machine Gun and Plasma Rifle. Straightforward, simple and oh so good. There was an argument to be made that UT had the better and more varied maps back in the day, but with community creations and updates (see Quake Live) that no longer holds up. Quake also had the better competitive scene after the early 2000's with its duel game mode dominating many tournaments, while UT pretty much died completely. Quake, in my opinion, is faster and more enjoyable to play and watch. UT is good, but Quake is king. The new UT looks pretty good, but nothing has happened in ages. I played the pre-alpha (as far as my laptop let me) and it was good but nothing special. The fact that it's crowdsourced and heavily reliant on a community which has (or soon will have) access to Quake Live, Quake Champions, Reflex, Warsow, Diabotical and so on has me more than just a little skeptical about how it's going to turn out. "Yeah everything is open source and we're not doing anything new without community consensus on our forums" may seem pretty sweet at first sight, but can be very fickle, slow and just terrible. Many of these people are extreme traditionalists. Imagine if the Quake community would have had to agree on and support things like in-game currency, skins, unlocks, challenges and Champions? Yet id made the call and pushed through and now pretty much everyone is coming around and loving it. I hope it succeeds because the more competitive arena shooters drawing attention the better, but I have my doubts. The fact that it's been in pre-alpha for almost 3 years now and that it's going to be entirely F2P with a weird thing of community mods making money or whatever doesn't inspire much confidence either... Quake > All, it seems.

The hype is fucking real. Reports from veteran players and news outlets all agree that it plays and feels exactly like a proper Quake game despite the addition of the Champions. The skills don't do much to change the classic experience and give a refreshing change that even pros are welcoming. I imagine you'll be able to restrict settings as to only allow certain Champions or settings for competitive, which will be great. Also, new footage shows off more of the great customization. The cosmetics go far beyond just weapon colors and such, but introduce entire skins and models from previous games. For example, the classic Quake 1 rocket launcher is an unlockable in the game. Looks like I really gotta get my PC ready by the game this game come out later in 2017.

Woah, Pax just revealed that Quake will be free to play with the option to buy the full character roster. It'll also have customisation and all that stuff. Looks great.
"Quake will be free to play" This was already known BOI
It was? I've been keeping up with QC news pretty closely and never heard that before. I can't find a single source on this from before PAX and a lot of major game outlets are only jumping on it now, so I'm pretty sure this is big news.
https://www.vg247.com/2017/03/11/quake-champions-will-be-a-free-to-play-title-unless-you-purchase-it/ http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/03/10/quake-champions-goes-free-to-play http://www.gamespot.com/articles/quake-champions-is-free-to-play-with-a-for-pay-opt/1100-6448630/
I'm guessing game outlets didn't care until now when its finally releasing its beta
Still, do you have any source confirming that this was known from before PAX? I can't find anything. For months, all I've heard were rumors and reports that it wouldn't be a full $60 game but rather like $40. heard nothing about it F2P until a few days ago, and I still frequent the biggest Quake forums on the internet. Quake Live was F2P with a pro subscription model back in the day, but I've never heard anything like that about Quake Champions.
I'm sorry I can't seem to find it anymore, does it matter dough? In the end everyone now knows its free to play
Nah, it doesn't matter at all. I'm just skeptical as Quake Champions being F2P is such major news that I could not see it fly under the radar like this. I was in a Quake stream on Twitch the day it was shown at PAX and this was the big topic of discussion even among some of the most well known veterans of the Quake community. The fact that Esreality (probably the biggest Quake forum/site on the entire internet) only just did an article on it being F2P two days ago is giving me the impression that it is nearly impossible that this was known before PAX, as the people on there live and breathe Quake and have every new bit of information up and running the second it gets out to the public. But yeah, it doesn't matter.

2016 had DOOM and Titanfall 2.
This year's list is pretty meh.
Quake Champions is going to make this the greatest year for shooters since 2010.
