So I'm going with Nvidia Shadowplay to record gameplay, WavePad for post commentary, and then I might crack Sony Vegas for editing it. Now I just gotta get the game and DSfix.

Now add some commentary to the next vids, I want you to confirm what I think you sound like.
I actually might if enough people are interested. I've talked to random in Overwatch and am slowly getting over my irrational fear of voice chat.

I feel ya on the voice chat, I get the same way for some reason. I rarely talk unless I'm with someone I know and then it's not so bad.
You're a native speaker though, aren't you?

Yessir.
I guess that for me it's just the not being a native speaker that makes it somewhat daunting, I suppose.

So you'll be happy to learn that I played DS1 today with TBlocks and I was pleasantly surprised to find that my skills easily transferred over from DS3! I don't know what they did in DS2, but this one feels just as responsive as the third.
You're not the only one. I also struggled with DS2's sluggishness. I'd have to put them side-by-side again, but I always felt that DS1 was slightly more responsive than DS3, although the difference was minimal and it might just be confirmation bias. DS2 was definitely the worst though.

If you're gonna be using Katanas then you should dress in style as the weeblord himself.

Nah man, shirtless all the way. I also don't even know what that is.

Right, well if I do this, I'm going to do it properly. Steam Sale is supposed to start tomorrow, so I will buy DS1 for the PC so I can record and commentate properly.

First things first though, how many of you are interested in me doing a commentary playthrough? It would be a bummer to spend my time and money on this and actually talk if no one cares.

- Try to kill each boss without taking a hit
what if you do, though

do you just let him kill you so you can try it again, or what
That's pretty much the plan and what I did on Gargoyles. Got damaged by the tail as he landed on my first attempt so I just jumped off the map and tried again.

I do emphasize the "try to" part though. I've done a level 1 RTSR run before in which any boss hit was instant death, and I'm not interested in a repeat. I'm pretty confident in my DS1 knowledge and abilities, so I could steamroll almost all of the game with relative ease if I don't limit myself in some way. I think this playthrough strikes a pretty good balance between it being too easy and downright frustrating after trying the same fights for hours. I want a challenge, but still to progress at a decent pace.

So I will give each boss a fair number of tries to not take any damage at all (and just kill myself if I do), but if I'm not feeling it anymore I will just kill it (if not without taking damage, then at least without healing too much).

I bought Dark Souls 1 for my PS3 a few months ago but I was afraid it would feel unresponsive like DS2 did after playing DS3, so I never played it.
Haven't touched any Souls game in a while, but I always felt that DS1 was the most responsive of the entire bunch (more so than DS2 and DS3).

That's interesting. I remember vaguely Tyger confirming my fears which probably didn't help my ambitions with the game.

Maybe after I finish Super Metroid, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Final Fantasy XV, I'll give this one a try.
I feel like there's some lag playing it through backwards compatibility on the Xbox One, but it's pretty damn smooth on the 360. Only reason I'm playing on Xbox One is because I can record gameplay that way.

It's still disappointing how lacking most offhand weapons are in DS1. The Iaito does less damage, isn't any faster to swing and has the same amount of parry frames as the bare hand. Twohanding the Uchi is objectively better, aside from not being able to parry, and onehanding it without the Iaito equipped does the exact same and costs me less endurance. Shame that they waited until DS2 to do something with dual wielding.

Anyways, killed Taurus, Gargoyles and Capra. Made it to the first bonfire in the Sewers now, so Gaping is next. Still just using the shirtless shadow set with a +5 Uchi and a +2 Iaito. Will upload a video of the fights tomorrow.

- No ranged or any magic

I think hidden body should be allowed. You can't get more stealthy/ninja than that.

Chameleon as well.
Makes it less challenging though. And I don't see myself really using either. I'm killing all enemies so not much benefit to sneaking.

Chips are down for Belgian frites as EU acts on 'unsafe compound'

Quote
The European commission has been accused of a crime against the people of Belgium for what local politicians say amounts to an attempt to ban the national dish, the frite – or frieten, as they say in the Flemish-speaking north of the country.

Whether eaten with mayonnaise or taken au naturel, the Belgian chip is up there with chocolate, beer and the national football team in the nation’s psyche. No public square is complete without a frietkot, or chip stand, where sellers swear by double frying bintje potatoes in beef or horse fat to achieve the ideal combination of a succulent centre and crispy exterior.

In a move that appears to demonstrate a dazzling lack of common touch on the part of EU officials in Brussels – which is both the capital of Belgium and the home of the union – the commission is proposing that the potatoes should be blanched first to prevent the formation of acrylamide, an allegedly hazardous compound that can form in the frying process when certain foods are heated to a temperature above 120C.

Belgium, which claims to have invented frites, says the move will spoil the taste and destroy the country’s “rich gastronomical tradition”.

Ben Weyts, the tourism minister and a member of Belgium’s ruling coalition, has beseeched the commission to think again for the sake of his country’s cultural integrity. “It is important to be mindful not to take measures that have unintended and far-reaching consequences for our rich gastronomic tradition,” he wrote in a letter to the food policy commissioner, Vytenis Andriukaitis.

“Our fries owe their flavour to the craftsmanship of our chippies, who fry chips raw and then fry them a second time. I understand that outside our country they have different cultures. But we have our own cultural tradition. It would be a shame if the European Union prohibited it.”

The double-frying process – once for the soft inside, then again at a higher temperature for the crunchy outside – is regarded as the key to making the perfect chip. Belgian chips are not thick and hearty like the English variety, nor thin and elegant like the French. Belgians regarded theirs as a cut above.

To add insult to injury, the consultation paper refers to chips as French fries, a term to which some Belgians take great exception. It is believed American servicemen in the second world war coined the phrase after eating chips in Belgium, where they were confused by being in French-speaking Wallonia.

While Belgian politicians are railing against the move, the commission’s proposal would only recommend the blanching of potatoes rather than enforce a ban.

A commission spokesman said they were consulting on how best to reduce the intake of acrylamide. A similar risk to that posed by the Belgian frite is found in roast potatoes, biscuits, porridge, coffee, crackers and bread. The European Food Safety Authority has said children are most at risk.

“The commission has no intention whatsoever to ban Belgian frites or any other frites for that matter,” the spokesman said.

“Instead, the commission is preparing a new regulatory measure to oblige food business operators to apply a code of practice to reduce acrylamide in food, as it is carcinogenic.

“President [Jean-Claude] Juncker is particularly attached to the culinary heritage of Europe and its member states.”

Peaces of SHIT eurocrats. Belxit fucking when?

You're right. This attack clearly shows that more must be done to prevent the same thing from happening ever again. I suggest we draw lessons from this and finally crack down on these ordinary white British familymen with possibly xenophobic and anti-immigration attitudes.
Actually the real solution is to stop offending white nationalists, as only a small number of white supremacists actually carry out terrorist attacks. Terrorism has no political affiliation. Love trumps hate :^)
Ah yes, of course.

So if they're trying to put you into the same world that those soldiers experience, I can't say they're doing a great job.
That's why they also have a much more historically accurate singleplayer. I don't see anything wrong with this because it's the suspension of disbelief. When you're playing through the campaign with an actual story, NPC's and proper objectives as part of historically accurate battles, they aim to make it as realistic as possible. But if you're in the multiplayer going through short, disconnected matches without a real story and with 16 players casually chatting, calling in over the top killstreaks, instantly respawning, going after random/pointless objectives, watching killcams and so forth, then there's already almost no historically accurate basis to go on and they have the opportunity to introduce and remove other elements because no one was under the impression that they're in "the same world that those soldiers experience".

CoD is going for its infamous arcade shooter multiplayer where they take some liberties (because no one would really be invested in the setting anyways), as well as a much more historically accurate and story-driven singleplayer where it wants to have players "live" the actual WW2 scenarios. It's being pretty clear up front that it's not trying to be like Red Orchestra or Verdun but instead sacrifices some accuracy in its multiplayer while keeping the singleplayer intact.  And I really don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Why shirtless? Bruce Lee?
Nah, just didn't have enough endurance to wear the shirt yet.

I like the shirtless look though. Peeve (pretty famous DS youtuber) has a lot of ninja builds and I think it looks pretty neat with the bandana/headgear.

Ken-sama?

Ah, I've seen that before but didn't remember the name.

Anyways, my first attempt at getting the armor and katana ended up a failure. I completely forgot about Mildred and ran in there as a human. She followed me all the way up the stairs and trapped me between her and one of the fire breathing insects at the level before the bonfire. Time for another attempt.

Asylum easy as hell, of course.

First plan is to get the Uchigatana from the Undead Merchant and then use the the master key to enter Blighttown from the exit and grab the Iaito and Shadow armor for that proper ninja swag.

Haven't played DS1 in ages but Turkey's thread got me interested in giving it a go again. I intend to play through the game with Challenger's ninja limitations, only a bit more challenging.

- Starting class: Thief
- No shields
- Only weeb weapons (katanas in both hands, for example)
- No ranged or any magic
- No leveling up health
- Must wear ninja-esque armor
- Kill every enemy at least once (no speedrunning)
- Try to kill each boss without taking a hit

I'll update this thread as I go along if anyone's playing themselves or just interested.

You know it would probably be really hard to do a ninja run in Dark Souls. As in just a katana, the ninja clothes, no shield, no magic.

Souls Katana's are fucking busted though.I did the runnnig R1 attack on the Uchigatana once while I was in Firelink Shrine. It destroyed 9 chairs, six phantoms, Halo 5's writing quality and killed the Soul of Cinder and Nameless King.
Of course katanas are good. The point is you have almost no armor, no shield, and no magic.
>dark wood grain ring

Ninja runs are supreme easy mode.
You could really only take a couple hits from a boss though.
That actually sounds pretty fun. I think I'll do a playthrough like that and maybe make a thread on it.

Parrying knife in the offhand is allowed though, I assume?
Sure. But no shield, not even on your back. I should try this.
New rule for maximum weeb ninja, parrying dagger is too easy, gotta have another katana in left hand too.

I don't believe it was a hoax, but I think the common justification of those who do is that it was to one-up the sovjets in the space race, boost moral and secure funding for other projects.
