Cooller vs Evil first game, definitely one of today's highlights.
Evil's a beast with some of the best combat skills of anyone. He was the grand finalist in last year's Quakecon and held an absolutely dominant position in Quake Live monthly tournaments (won it like 7 months in a row and made it to the last 3 every single time). However, Quake Champions is definitely a different game. Evil started playing Champions relatively late when compared to the others and has never been considered a big tactical player, so he's at a disadvantage when it comes to champion picks and the new meta.
Cooller is simply a legend. Arguably the most famous and notable Quake persona ever. Just like Evil, he's a Russian player and has been around for 15 years. A very stable player overall who's a master of tactics, combat and timing. He won a relatively big LAN in Russia last week and is widely considered one of the best 5 Quake Champions players in the world.
The seeds are kind of fucked, unfortunately. Since they were based on time of qualification, we have some of the top players that simply won't be able to qualify because of how the seeds are laid out. I really hope we're gonna see amends made or some of them attending the BYOC to still qualify at Quakecon itself.
Anyways, game should start soon.
Prediction: Cooller wins.

Damn, looks good. How does it play?
It feels smoother than 1024x768 that's for sure
What hz is it? And no 1080p for you?
Just 85hz, I think I can increase it to 120hz. There's no such thing as 1080p for a CRT the closest is 1920x1440, but I consider 1600x1200 to be the CRT equivalent of 1080p imo
Yeah, I know there's no 1080p CRT's. Just wondering if you're considering to (also) get a 1080p monitor. I can recommend a good and decently priced one. And yeah, you should look into increasing it to 120hz. Definitely worth the upgrade imo.

What a wonderful time to be alive, as this year's Quakecon is coming up soon. For those who are not familiar with Quakecon, it's Bethesda and id Software's yearly gaming convention. For those attending, there'll be a lot of events and things to do, such as a massive BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) LAN tournament of heaps of games with cash prizes. The convention will also showcase some of their new games, as well as teasers, trailers and first footage of new games. If you're interested in the likes of Wolfenstein, DOOM, Elder Scrolls and, of course, Quake, this is a very interesting event. Spoiler QuakeCon is an annual celebration of games and the people who play them. Founded in 1996 by a group of friends on IRC, QuakeCon has grown to become one of the most distinguished festivals in gaming, welcoming thousands of gamers from around the globe to participate in the annual four-day event. QuakeCon features North America’s largest BYOC (Bring-Your-Own-Computer) LAN Party, tournaments, exhibits, workshops, sneak peeks of Bethesda’s upcoming games, and more. QuakeCon is free and open to the public thanks to the support of id Software, Bethesda Softworks, the QuakeCon volunteer staff, and its event sponsors and exhibitors.
Of course, there is one Quakecon activity to rule them all. And that is of course the pro Quake tournament. Last year, the future of Quake seemed pretty glim. As Quake is a notoriously hard game to get into and the developers have not supported esports the way many others have, the community had shrunk and competitive events were limited to small monthly online tournaments and one "big" LAN a year with prize pools of up to $50k. When last year's Quakecon picked an unconventional format and several big names didn't end up attending because they had started playing other games, many feared that Quake was almost done for. But then, Quake Champions was revealed. The game is currently in open beta and free to all (tons of fun to play, you can join Challenger, Banjo, myself and others in the game) and will be this year's Quakecon's main event. For the first time ever, the developers are investing big in their own competitive scene by hosting the official Quake World Championships with a massive $1million prize pool. There's two competitive game modes that are being played now. The first is the classic Duel. It's a 1v1 mode where both players pick 3 Champions / stocks each and fight until one is left standing. Three rounds to win a map, three maps to win the game. The second is Sacrifice. This is the 4v4 team mode where players must capture an orb that spawns in the middle of the map and take it back to one of the bases to gather points. While the one team defends and increases its score, the other must take back the orb, bring it back to their own base and turn things around. So what does the tournament look like? Over the past two months, there have been regular qualifiers held in the US and Europe. For Duel, up to 256 players could sign up every two weeks for a qualifying tournament with a single elimination bracket. The best 8 players of every stage qualified for the next part, and all those who didn't could just try again two weeks later. That stage wrapped up this July, meaning that 32 American and 32 Europeans qualified for their respective Regionals that take place this weekend. With a double elimination bracket, the top 12 players of each group are accepted for the final part of the Quakecon tournament at the end of this month. Same story for the Sacrifice team games, but here 8 teams qualified for the Regionals and 4 of each continent will advance to the full finals at the convention. Players and matchups EU

Tomorrow (this Saturday), the Regionals will kick off. At 10am CEST / 4am ET, the Europeans will start playing. Later that day at 9pm CEST / 3pm ET, the American duelers will conclude the day. On Sunday, the schedule is more or less the same but for the Sacrifice mode instead. Once this concludes, the best teams and players will advance to the Quakecon finals held in Texas later this month, where they will be joined by the winners of the "amateur" league BYOC players. Pretty hype event if you're into esports, both because this is great to watch and because it might signal the revival of one the greatest competitive games of all time. All of the biggest names in Quake are playing, with the inclusion of some that left the scene and have now returned, and there's some good matches planned for tomorrow. Evil and Rapha (last year's finalists), as well as Cooller, Cypher, Strenx, Tox, Clawz, Av3k and Dahang are all there. Livestream: https://www.twitch.tv/quakechampionsPlayers, brackets, full details: https://play.eslgaming.com/quake/global/quakechampions/major/quake-world-championship-2017I'll keep this thread updated when things kick off and if anything interesting happens. Hopefully someone else finds this interesting and others with an interest in Quake or esports in general might join in and watch a few games.

Specifically the sexual offences percentage that rose in 2009, 2013, and 2015. 2014 being the greatest year for threats, sexual offenses and harassment, with all 3 steadily increasing into 2017.
And yet the amount of reported rapes (total number, not percentage, which even helps your case because the Swedish population obviously grows naturally too) was identical in 2015 and 2010 (official stats as you cited them), despite these years seeing the largest influx of refugees and asylum seekers into the country yet. And over the same time period, the number of persons suspected and convicted of rape actually fell, which is also illustrative of how broad the Swedish legal definition of rape is (a man raping his wife 100 times is recorded as 100 different rapes, as opposed to other countries where it's just considered 1 instance of the crime). Risay did a good job at covering the rest already. I'm not sure how familiar you are with statistics and especially crime stats, but as someone with a background in criminal law and criminology, I can assure you that they are very easy to read in a way that confirms our biases. There's so many factors that go into this that it's extremely hard to compare these stats and make a factually sound judgement based on them. Here, I remember an anecdote from one of my professors. In the medical field, cancer rates are kept under pretty tight watch. One year, statisticians find a major increase in cervical cancer rates completely out of the blue. Naturally, it caused a bit of a panic. What was the reason for so many more women suddenly getting cancer? Are we somehow being exposed to dangerous new metals or radioactive materials? Is there some new carcinogenic in our foods or water? Is there a new genetic mutation going around? In the end, the answer turns out to be pretty straightforward. There is no increase in women getting cervical cancer. There is just an increase in it being detected. The year of the "cancer spike", interest groups and popular media (radio and TV stations) had been raising awareness for the disease and had been hosting campaigns to encourage women to take an early detection test for cervical cancer, which in turn led to more cancers being detected that would've otherwise gone unnoticed. And crime stats are still a lot more complicated than that. They can make it very easy to point fingers and push different naratives with little regard for or knowledge of the actual truth. And it can be pretty toxic on both sides. Ultra progressives denying that large scale immigration can cause certain issues or ignoring its consequences are dumb and unreasonable. But right wingers abusing and misinterpreting statistics or iffy reports to paint a picture of "Muslim hordes flooding the country to rape women by the hundreds and cause violent crime everywhere they go" are equally wrong. You seem like a very reasonable guy, so I hope you can avoid falling in the trap of the latter. Don't be too quick to take correlation for causation. When you read a report from a partisan institute, take a minute to check out their reputation and take what they say with a grain of salt when you learn that they have a major right wing and anti-Muslim bias and have in the past published articles that were demonstrably wrong. When you see that they draw comparisons with 42 year old absolute numbers instead of showing rates per 100k next to actual numbers of immigration, ask yourself why that might be the case. Read other reports, news articles or government sources that give counter arguments. And even if something seems obvious, it's never a bad thing to remain critical of it. Even if there was hard evidence that tied the immigrants to crime increases, we should always wonder why. Did these people really uproot their entire lives, abandon their home, traveled half the world in terrible conditions to avoid war or famine, and all just to come here and start fighting and committing crime? Or is it because if they do get asylum, they're often dumped in already impoverished and crime ridden areas where they have few prospects to get ahead and get caught up in crime because they are stuck in literal ghettos of other refugees with no money to move, little opportunity to get ahead / integrate / learn the language better, no odds of landing decent jobs or getting a better education, and so on? It's a similar story to the gang wars in certain US cities. Are people born in Chicago just biologically inclined to commit crimes and start gang wars? Of course not. They're just kids without a good father figure growing up in a poor, crime ridden area where they receive little to no support, a poor education and are more or less forced down a path of few job opportunities, many confrontations with police, prison life and eventually ever more crime. It can be the same for many immigrants, only they often don't speak the language as well, are unfamiliar with the country's customs and regularly face many obstacles and discrimination because they're foreigners. I live close to an area with a sizable foreign / immigrant / Muslim and African population. In all my years of living here, I've never had any issues with any of them. The ones I know are friendly and polite. They're not here to commit crimes or turn this into the country they came from. They only want to make a better life for themselves and their family. Crime here is at a low because the city and local government are very involved in community policing (turning police officers into familiar faces serving as neighborhood friends and contact points), integration, free language lessons, social housing / jobs, and a lot of community involvement (open barbeques, playgrounds, sports events including both immigrants and people from around here...). When the Brussels airport was bombed in a terrorist attack last year, many of them put out Belgian flags and came out to condemn the attacks and support the country. I fully oppose unfethered immigration, but multiculturalism is not doomed to fail. I apologize for the rant, but I hope it kind of gave you another perspective to look at this issue. It's easy to read whatever we want into the figures and charts (which don't get me wrong are still incredibly important), and to make broad statements of how X is causing Y and how bad it all is, but it takes a lot more effort to look beyond them and (try to) understand the underlying truth.

If all women were getting paid less on a broader sense, why not just hire women? Cheaper workers.
Because women can't do anything right.
This is the answer to every female related issue. If you want to see what a matriarchy looks like go look at Sweden and ask yourself why it's now the rape capital of the west.
Because it has the most lenient system of recording rape cases out of any country I know of. It also has a culture much more open to reporting these crimes.
Or, you know, the muslims who raised the number of rapes.
Then how do you explain that crime victimization surveys place Sweden at the same level as other Western countries, or that the rate of reported rapes has is no higher than it was in 2010 (before the start of the "massive Muslim immigration")?
https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/5195/sweden-rape
That is false. After Sweden's decision to become a multicultural society, the crime raised 300% and the rapes percentage increased by over 1000%.
>gatestone institute "A right-wing[2][3][4] think tank that publishes articles, particularly those involving Muslims or the Middle East. The organization has been criticized for publishing inaccurate articles." Nice, let me just cite "MuslimsAreGoodForSweden.com" as my counterargument. And no, it isn't false. Their methodology is plain ridiculous. Its starting point is over 40 years ago, which is perfectly in line with many other countries accepting more guest migrant workers. If we look at when the actual major wave of immigration hit in the last 10 years or so, there's been little to no change in rape rates despite the largest increase in (Muslim) immigrants Sweden has seen in ages. Second generation immigrants causing crime has got pretty much nothing to do with religion. Also, you gotta love how the Gatestone report chooses not to use actual rates in relevancy to population, but instead focus on absolute numbers. Do you know how many rapes the US recorded in the 1960s? Just over 15k. 2015? Almost 100k. Holy fucking shit, the number of rapes went up by almost 666% in that time period. But wait, the amount of guns in the US increased by almost 500% in that same time period. Clearly, it's guns causing this increase in rape. Not the widespread campaigns to promote women actually reporting the crime, or the police and prosecution becoming more supportive of rape claims, or the definition of the crime becoming broader, or the culture becoming more open towards talking about it instead of considering it a shameful thing that should be hidden and not talked about. No, it must be a convenient scapegoat. Looking at absolute numbers is just shameful and a game both can play. The amount of aggravated assaults in the US since this date? Increase by 600%. Violent crime? 500% The more I read through this, the more utterly ridiculous it becomes. The report is seriously arguing that, and no, I'm not joking, the entire Swedish population growth in the last 40 years is "entirely due to immigration". Fuck me, now I've gotta go tell all of the (completely white) Swedes age 40 and below that they're actually immigrant offspring. Read this, this, this, this and this instead. I'm not at all in favor of unrestricted immigration and realize it comes with issues of crime, (poor) assimilation and culture clashes. But this whole "Sweden is letting in muzzies and now all their women are just raped everywhere" rhetoric doesn't have a lot of bearing in reality. It has its issues and I'm sure some cultures are more prone to commiting certain crimes than others, but that's a lot of bias you're pushing right now.

How would this work on sites that aren't necessarily "porn sites" but you could find porn on them eg. 4chan or Reddit
they might block them entirely. apparently there are a couple ISPs that already do that in the UK
Pretty sure the wording of the law is to be interpreted as targeting sites whose business / commercial model is to provide porn, so just plain porn sites and stuff like that. It's also what makes this such a shitty law. Research shows that the kids who come into contact with porn don't typically do so by deliberately seeking out pornhub or whatever, but by (accidentally) finding it or being shown something by others on Twitter or similar sites.

I agree, but that doesn't mean that there isn't some kind of gap.
But it doesn't mean anything.
I agree, it doesn't mean all that much. It's a pretty bad argument to make and doesn't have much value out of making a point about how some fields are still very male dominated and only slowly opening up to more women.

. Women typically work less and go into lower paying careers as a whole.
I believe that looking at wages across the sexes as a whole is a flawed way of observing a problem and generally ignore most parts of that argument on either end.
You've got to compare like careers to notice any pay disparities that mean anything.
I agree, but that doesn't mean that there isn't some kind of gap. Not so much because of the evil patriarchy and partially due to the women themselves, but still there.
1827
« on: August 03, 2017, 09:52:10 AM »
Any real semblance of gender based pay disparity is observed in older females who aren't agressive in pay negotiation. Younger women raised in a time where they are more empowered and told they can be the breadwinner of the familly are more aggressive like their male counterparts and tend to be valued more similarly.
So more or less, it's a non issue that's fixing itself and may as well be regarded as nonexistent.
Is it though? I mean, older women being passive is only part of it. Women typically work less and go into lower paying careers as a whole. And the latter is also slowly changing, but not just because of itself. Took a lot of campaigning to open up these spaces as it were.

I believe that it does but mainly that it has to do with women choosing lower wage jobs, working less than men, not pursuing promotion as actively and stuff like that.
