There two kinds of herpes?!
Yeah. The first kind is the more harmless kind. Most of the population has it and it manifests in cold sores in and around the mounth. Most people don't even know they have it. The second is the kind that most people refer to as "herpes". It's basically the same thing, but usually much worse and on the genitals.

Does Flee speak with the fry?
Not really, but it sounds that way on my microphone. It gets better when I turn op the mic volume, but then it gets a lot of noise and picks up all my keyboard strokes.

The Flood / Re: Shaving
« on: August 18, 2017, 07:08:37 PM »
hydrating your skin is what minimizes irritation. that's where shaving in the shower helps. you shouldn't need to see what your doing if you go clean shaven, just feel. of course you'll need to tidy up your sides afterwards once you get out.

neck and jawline is always tricky, I got that thyroid cartilage to work around. it takes practice.

I usually shave right after the shower so my skin should still be hydrated, no?

Regardless I'll give it a shot the next time I have to shave.
Water alone might not cut it. You can moisturize with something else before you save too.

Wow. So you forgo actual substance for memes. Good job.

You always were a lefty, but I'd expect even YOU to be smart enough to not drink the alt-left kool aid. Color me surprised. Or not.
Wait, that stuff you posted wasn't some copypasta? LOL, I thought you were just memeing to begin with so I responded in kind. My bad then. I'll respond with actual substance if you want.

The Flood / Re: Public speaking

I'm naturally a formal speaker, which is good for my job, but in your conference it may be more important to throw in jokes, different inflections, hand gestures, etc. I kind of doubt that's the case, but those can be good ways to keep the audience engaged -- i.e., not bored to death.

And of course, rehearse whatever you're saying, and have a bulleted script in front of you to guide you along.
I get to use a powerpoint presentation, so that'll help. Formal speaking is also expected, so I should be fine there as well. My main concern is my familiarity with the topic I'm presenting. Much of it is of a colleague of mine who won't be able to attend, so I'm covering his research too. It's the fielding questions in front of cameras and several hundred people on a topic I'm not intimately familiar with that's got me worried.

I'm not sure how appropriate it would be, but since a lot of it is someone else's work, if you don't know an answer, maybe you could respond by saying you will follow up with an email after conferring with your colleague? Otherwise, there's only so much you can anticipate being asked, so have some sort of professional response ready in case you don't know something.

Careful with powerpoint, too. Don't let it be a crutch.
Yeah, my current plan is to start it off by pointing out that I'm not the lead author of the research and that while I will try to answer any questions to the best of my ability, I recommend that those with serious concerns or detailed questions contact my colleague by e-mail and follow up like that.

Also, fuck Trump for being the lying piece trash we all know him as.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/aug/17/donald-trump-barcelona-reaction-general-pershing-myth

Of course you'd use this moment to push your agenda, you fucking leftist ignorant fucktard. Yeah, go ahead and bash Trump while terrorists run amok killing innocents every week. How fucking noble of you, what an outstanding virtue signaler! Do you feel proud of yourself jumping on the hate train? I, for one, am thankful that Trump actually has a hard stance against ISLAMIC terrorism. We should play hard ball with these assholes rather than bend over and apologize the way that blubbering vagina Obama did. Your continent is getting cucked by refugee savages with rape and crime and terrorist attacks, but you can't see anything through a lens other than leftist Trump hate. Fuck you.
What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little neo-nazi? I’ll have you know I graduated top of the 2014 class in Leftist Gender Studies, and I’ve been involved in numerous counter-protests against the alt-right, and I have over 300 confirmed micro-aggressions called out. I am trained in Twitter warfare and I’m the top transpositive blogger on the entirity of Tumblr. You are nothing to me but just another privileged male. I will report you to the Southern Poverty Law Center with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of SJWs across the USA and your IP is being backtraced right now so you better prepare for the storm, cis scum. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, oppressor. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can classify you as one of over seven hundred genders, and that’s just without access to everydayfeminism.com. Not only am I extensively trained in social media combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of antifa and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit Muslim-positive fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, literal Hitler.

I'm not a natural, but practicing in front of a mirror, understanding the material you're presenting, and being prepared to answer any questions people may have are all things you should probably be taking care of if not already.
Yeah, I've been told I am a natural and I agree with those. Never practiced before the mirror though. I just walk around and talk to myself.

Like it? Hate it? Any good at it? If not, what do you do to help yourself out?

I'm a pretty good public speaker, but have an important presentation at a major conference coming up and am feeling the nerves. Never used any tricks or anything for it.

Gotta say that even though Quakecon is a bit disappointing due to several big names not being able to attend, the future of the game is looking promising. Lots of good additions and features coming that I hope will keep many playing and draw in new players. If the esport scene stays afloat, we're looking at an absolute top tier game here.

Full list of updates mentioned during the stream.

The great:

- You don't get sent back to the main menu after the match ends, but remain in the lobby so you can stick together with the same players.
- Specific challenges for each Champion that you earn and unlock specific exclusive customization options for them. More customization and longevity is never a bad thing, so this sounds awesome.
- Voice chat added. This was a long time coming and I doubt I'll use it much, but integrated voice chat is never a bad thing.
- New duel map is coming soon (fast, lots of verticality), as well as 2 other team (and potentially also duel) maps. Lots of people are hoping for Aerowalk, which I'd love. Such a good map.
- Anarki, Nyx and Slash are getting larger hitboxes. It never bothered me all that much, but their hitboxes were indeed too tiny at times.
- CTF mode is wanted by the devs and hopefully coming eventually.
- You won't lose your customization stuff if you buy it in Early Access (assumed to be the end of inventory wipes for beta players). Looking forward to collecting and building out my characters.
- A robust crosshair system is being worked on. There wasn't anything wrong with the default crosshair, but being able to customize it will be nice.
- Vulkan is being worked on, but no ETA given. Performance has been manageable for me, but it's been sloppy at best. Vulkan should help people with all kinds of PCs to run the game smoothly.

The good:

- The addition of new lore such as champion rivalries, gods, and more expansions to the Quake / DOOM universe.
- There's going to be collectable lore items during games and they'll be used to collect special skins.
- Beginner levels (interactive tutorials like in QL, I assume) for people to learn the basics of items, timing, gameplay and weapons.
- Quakecon lightning gun skin: you can get one only if you play during Quakecon, it's free. It's also orange.
- Rockets ~should~ be fixed. 0 damage air rockets were a major bug, so that's very welcome.
- Doom Slayer won't speak. Nice of them to respect the lore and character like that.

The neutral:

- Community maps are something the developers really want, but it's not coming any time soon for a variety of reasons.
- Solo players will still be matched against parties in team modes, although they do try to match with other parties first.
- No current plans for offline bots due to security issues. Big shame. It was the best way for new players to get acquainted with the game. I played this mode for hours back when I was first started out. However, they were only specifically talking about OFFLINE bots, so I'd say there's good odds that bots will make it into the game.

The bad:

- Speed caps are there to stay. Shame, but understandable to balance small heroes with fast acceleration and the larger slower ones.
- They refused to give an answer on whether demos are coming, don't know what to make of this one.

And nothing of value was lost.
yknow what the actual fuck is wrong with some of you people
Ain't no point quoting people who're just trying to be kinda edgy.
mega sceptile is like, a grown ass adult with a wife and was/is a pro rally racer from what i remember. this aint teenage edginess, it's just sickening
Then odds are he's just doing it for shits and giggles. Can't expect sincerity from a lot of people in this group is what i've gathered over the few years I've been around.
Ding! Ding! We have a winner, srsly though. It's a fuckin tragedy and the perps need to be caught. It really is a problem that these people are just fueling the fire and shitshow the US Political landscape at the moment. Extremists on ALL sides are a problem and said outliers need to be punished to the full extent of the law.
well that's...more respectable, it's hard to tell when someone's fucking around when they're not a well known, active user, and i more readily expect it from younger users

anyway im pretty sure the dude was caught and he was found to have a history of nazi sympathy since high school & his mom once called the cops on him because he was in a frenzy after she told him to stop playing video games
Ban violent video games!
This one kid played two whole Battlefields in one day and almost killed the first Russian he saw afterwards. Can't believe these assault games haven't been banned yet.

I hope Rapha and Team Liquid lose
I hope Evil wins. That would be amazing. Astro might be an underdog, but Evil? Couldn't qualify at the start because of PC issues so he could only play the final qualifiers, yet still managed to qualify only to be given the worst possible seed. Lost out on a spot because he was up against Cooller and Agent in the first two rounds (just wtf is this). Then missed out on the start of the runner-up placement because he wasn't able to get in touch with his opponent. Terrible streak of luck.

But now, he's probably (if he can get a BYOC ticket) going to Quakecon to participate with a few hundred other players for the worst possible seedings of the tournament paid for with his own money with 0% guarantee of achieving anything after already not doing that well in the Qualifiers. So godspeed to this man for going all the way despite having no team to back him up. With no Cypher in the picture, I'm cheering for him.
