Serious / Re: First world people have it so rough« on: September 05, 2014, 10:55:00 AM »
My quick opinion on this:
as much as I hate using the word because of the moronic connotation it has nowadays, all of us are privileged. The fact that we all have spare time to dedicate to (shit)posting on the internet, that we have access to an education and government security, that we have a roof over our heads, clean water, heating and electricity? It means we are privileged, no matter how you look at it. Because there are billions of people out there who don't have any of those things. People born into extreme poverty with absolutely no opportunities. But that does mean we should seek penance? That we should apologize and feel bad for getting lucky? That our problems and hardships somehow are meaningless because someone else has it worse? That, I don't think so. It's not our fault that we were born the way we are and where we are. And even though the challenges we face aren't comparable to the things some people in third world countries go through, that doesn't mean they aren't tough or can't have devastating effects on our lives. That being said, I do think realizing how "priviliged" we are can help put things in perspective. There is no reason to feel guilty about it, but maybe it'll help to know that despite shitty things happening to you, you are in all likelihood still pretty damn lucky. 15273

I play it sometimes. Never been that big of a fan of CS. The bullet spread and slow gameplay are pretty off-putting.

I'm glad that you weren't affected by it, but there's definitely a relationship between wealth/background and educational prowess. Richer parents are also usually the higher educated ones, so they are a lot more likely to stimulate their child intellectually, be more invested in their education and have their child aim "higher" for a future with a higher end college degree.
I'm not saying that programs like the US Common Core or "no child left behind" are the right way of going about this, but it's hard to deny that there is a problem here. 15282

The Flood / Re: Anyone here ever gamble?« on: August 30, 2014, 06:28:34 PM »You got some of it right.Well, "nej" is similar to "nee", meaning no, "skjønner" is a lot like "kennen", meaning "knowing", "mener" is like "menen", which is "meaning". "Skrive" is like "schrijven", "mye" is like "mijn", "bruk" is like "bruik"... I know German, Dutch, French and Latin, so a lot of words can be traced back to similar forms. 15288

The Flood / Re: Anyone here ever gamble?« on: August 30, 2014, 05:59:45 PM »Are they a free market? Can anyone own a Casino? As far as I understand, it's a free market, albeit heavily regulated. To own a casino you first need the approval of the town/city you're looking to host it in, after which you can apply for a license from a government committee. There's different types of licenses for different sorts of gambling (an actual casino, just slot machines, a bar with one or two games set up in the back...) and they're apparently not easy to obtain. Quite a few requirements, several of which in place to protect the users, that are to be met before your application will even be considered. 15290

Serious / Re: A nail polish to detect Rohypnol, SJWs commence their butthurt.« on: August 30, 2014, 12:03:58 PM »Can you stop being fucking retards and generalizing people because there are two idiots that run their mouth on Twitter? You're definitely better than this Mr P. Honestly, do you even know what social justice is? Because it doesn't mean 'random bitch on the internet who hates men.' Just because you're on a forum with a sour culture when it comes to issues like these doesn't mean you have to stoop to a low to get on their good side. Fact of the matter is that the majority of feminists and SJWs are glad that this happening so it's truly just not necessary to warp those people into radical idiots just because of a small few who are probably trolls anyway. There's a reason why people use the terms "SJW" and "Feminazi" instead of "activist" and "feminist". And that is to indicate that they're not talking about actual feminists or people looking to make a change, but the deluded, crazy and extremist minorities that have seemingly lost all grip on reality. This was already explained to you in the thread you made in the general board before. It's a jokingly coined term used to describe the batshit insane and stupid part of a much larger group, not a way of generalizing this entire group. 15297
The Flood / Re: Gladius problem« on: August 30, 2014, 07:16:35 AM »No, it was official. It was the proper word as vagina means sheath. A gladius goes into a vagina.Do you have a source for that? I studied Latin for close to 8 years and only ever heard it was slang or just a commonly used term, not the sole and official word for penis. A quick google search doesn't seem to confirm it either. 15298
Gaming / Re: Realistic Fallout 4 Predictions« on: August 30, 2014, 12:24:50 AM »Because then it would not be Fallout. If you want that game, play Metro.Metro isn't anything like Fallout though. And like Slash said, even though it would be a different culture, America does not have a worldwide monopoly on vaults, technology and such. It would be very interesting to meet some drastically different factions than the ones we know now. I get the reasoning behind the argument, but the Fallout setting and universe is so vast and affected so many places worldwide that it almost feels like a shame to confine everything to just a single country. I'd definitely be interested in a spin-off series taking place elsewhere. 15299
Gaming / Re: Realistic Fallout 4 Predictions« on: August 30, 2014, 12:04:44 AM »There is quite a large portion of the fan base that believes it to be sacrilegious of sorts for the game to take place outside of America.Seems rather stupid. 15300
