Apparently you need Red Bull to remain awake whilst playing the snorefest of grinding in it, so it's a smart marketing move.

Alright, I'll try to keep this brief. Basically, the current European situation is as follows: it is completely legal for you to make a parody of virtually anything. Only when you directly use source material that happens to be copyrighted (fragments of a movie, show, song, image...), it is possible that you're infringing on the rights of others and are breaking the law. The holder of the copyright has the sole rights to whatever he has copyrighted. He is the only one who can reproduce, spread and monetise it. If others wish to do so, they require the explicit permission of the holder. Now, member states of the Union have the choice to include a whole bunch of exceptions to this rule. All of the exceptions can be found in the link below, but the most common ones include the use for educational/scientific purposes, "fair use" and charity. The one most relevant to this topic is, of course, parody, which can be found in article 5.3(k) of the current European Copyright Directive, which reads: 5.3: Member States may provide for exceptions or limitations to the rights provided for in Articles 2 and 3 in the following cases:
(k) use for the purpose of caricature, parody or pastiche; However, this is an entirely free choice. Member states are free to include all of those exceptions, or none at all. It's all at their own discretion. And unlike Belgium for example, the UK, for reasons that I don't care to look into, decided not to include parody as a valid exception to copyright. Now, in response to Dustin: as said above, parody most definitely is legal in the EU. This is exclusively about the direct usage of copyrighted source material, which was only illegal in certain EU countries such as the UK. This new Directive will "force" the UK (although force isn't the right word as it seems unlikely to me that the UK voted against this piece of legislation) to allow parodies of copyrighted material as long as they're fair, do not aim to compete with the original and do not convey a discriminatory message. This has already been the case in several other EU countries. For reference, it isn't all that different from the US situation, where they basically made it more abstract by just calling it all "fair use" and leaving it to the judge to decide. That has its benefits, but on the other hand, there have been US cases where people doing a parody were successfully sued because of it. Definitely not a perfect system either. In response to Mr. P and Kinder: it is not up to the judge to decide whether or not he personally thinks it's funny. He merely has to rule on whether the parody has any sort of potentially humorous value to it. The CJEU has decided on the revelant legal elements of a parody, which are "‘first, to evoke an existing work while being noticeably different from it, and, secondly, to constitute an expression of humour or mockery". The parody can be done in the poorest taste imaginable, but as long as it holds any element of humor or mockery, it'll be passable. It has nothing to do with how funny the judge thinks it is, it's all about whether it's an actual (attempt at a) parody, or sheer plagiarism of a copyrighted material. I hope someone actually reads and responds this, because it took me like half of the first part of the class I'm in now to write, lol.

I don't have the time to go into detail now, but I'll answer Dustin's question and respond to Kinder's and Mr. P's remark in a little while.

PC got it early because what was supposed to just be a patch to prepare for the dlc, also made it available
I see. I assume you have the other two DLCs too?
Yeah of course haha
I only bought the Iron King one, so far. It looks like most seem to think that's the best one anyways. How did you like Sunken?

I guess I've just been avoiding it.
You probably shouldn't. It sounds like it's really eating away at you and having someone you confide in can definitely help.

But I still have three long days (Friday to Sunday) that I have all to myself with no real commitments for. They say that's when I should be doing my work, not at school. And maybe I should, but there's just so many distractions at home to tempt me it's just more practical to do everything at school.
You won't have a choice but to work at home. Depends on what you're doing and how hard it is, but with the exams in mind, you won't get through it all by just studying in between classes. Then again, I've heard some pretty interesting things about US education, so maybe you can.
I have five hours in between classes each day.
Alright, I hope that's enough for you.
I don't know if it is though, at least not when my friends don't allow me to study the whole time.
Speaking from experience, studying for higher education is quite a bit different from high school. It takes some time to get used to. I'm sure you'll eventually get around studying on a fitting schedule.

Drama my friend. Drama. White Pages exposed my full name revealing my address which can be found with a simple Google search. I had to create an account just to hide it. Good thing you managed to hide it though.

*sigh* Tonight has been way too rough on me.
The abovementioned forum business, or something else?
Too many things. I'm way too overwhelmed. If it were just the dumb forum drama it really wouldn't be that big a deal...
Spoiler I use this forum for escapism from life, so the added drama when I have other things going on doesn't exactly help, though. Want to talk about it?
uh...heh. I don't share my personal life for a pretty good reason, even though it's been taking a toll on me. Especially with anarchy in just a few days. I'm not going to jeopardize my safety like that.
This is like the 3rd time I've said that today...I really should stop.
Sounds like you'd do well to talk about it though, but it obviously is your choice. But if you'd change your mind and would want to talk in private, feel free to send me a PM. I'm not the kind of person to abuse trust.

Hi. I'm in class too.
Wonderful, we can be bored together. What class?
"Computer Illustrated Graphics"
The class is boring because others in the class need to be brought up to speed. The Pen Tool in Illustrator is only so interesting....
Class doesn't sound boring at all, but a slow/bad teacher can always ruin it for you.

Out of those, definitely Nintendo. Their constant Mario, Metroid and Zelda spin-offs is what keeps them going.

I'm waiting for Crown of the Ivory King to come out already haha
Not out on consoles yet? I've seen several people play it on PC already. The DLC looks alright, but From is reskinning way too many enemies. Spoiler is some examples, if you want. Spoiler Chariot, Flexile, Bastille Dogs, Covetous, Ashen Warriors from the Iron King DLC, Golems from castle Drangleic... I might end up getting it at some point, but I'm not particularly impressed from what I've seen so far.

It is true though that the majority of threads on this forum get derailed though, so this seems a little silly. Is derailment going to be more strictly moderated now?
No clue, but it should be addressed. Cheat should do a PSA on it, it's pretty important for the forum.

Looks like something went down in the verbatim thread and Noelle made a thread that she later edited out that seems to be related to it.
Seems like Noelle and others got into another flamewar about gender and got warned for derailing the thread. Just natural progression of the forum, the topic of derailment had to come up eventually.

Thinking how creepy it was how I was trying so hard to control my laughter from seeing a gif and have some guy just stare at me like he thought 1. I was crazy or 2. was really curious on what was making me giggle uncontrollably
You better be posting that gif for the rest of us to see.
