The Flood / Re: I just want to check with everyone here« on: October 12, 2014, 05:27:46 AM »However, I'd advise the rule maker to be more lenient on these kinds of threads, but still have an iron grip if things are pushed outside of the line.So now we're all of a sudden talking about leniency when it comes to applying the rules and a certain "line" that can't be crossed. Your good and objective rule is now no longer flawless and relies on the ultimately subjective interpretation of whichever member of the staff dealing with it. Moderation on a forum is not that different from a real life state, you know. Only here, there's no real separation of powers. You have the admin coming up with the rules in agreement with his staff (I firmly believe this process should include the entire community and not just a select few, but that's beside the question) as the legislative branch would, and then these rules are applied by moderators who take on the role of judges. They interpret the law and apply it to concrete situations. If you're not happy with a decision, you can appeal in public and with Cheat. It's not a bad system. It just needs to be more transparent and more of a two-way street. 14314

The Flood / Re: I just want to check with everyone here« on: October 12, 2014, 05:13:53 AM »How about this one?So, making a thread titled "I love Zesty" or "So I was playing Halo and ran into ChallengerX" would be a bannable offense? 14317
The Flood / Re: Who here loves/hates GMO?« on: October 12, 2014, 05:11:07 AM »I foresaw your answer, and thus I wrote "and how?", but you ignored it.The way this could mess up third world countries is that genetically modified organisms can potentially be registered as intellectual property, which is another challenge that needs to be tackled. If this modified produce isn't available to all, it's far from unthinkable that Western and developed countries would become sufficiently self-reliant that there would be no more need to rely on the produce of third world countries, effectively shutting them down. You can read all about this and many other objections against GMO's right here. And I don't know "how" some of that would be researched. I have a decent understanding of how we'd go about regulating the legal side of it all, but I'm no biologist or economist. 14318
The Flood / Re: How can you guys post so much?« on: October 12, 2014, 05:03:23 AM »A little cloudy right now but nothing too bad. It's getting colder again though, which is a shame. I hope it'll at least stay somewhat warm while my girlfriend's over to visit by the end of the month.Posting in every thread you see and starting lengthy conversations about absolutely nothing seems to do the trick. The Flood / Re: I just want to check with everyone here« on: October 12, 2014, 05:01:46 AM »We do this once. We do this twice. We do this three times. We do this four times, or we alternatively, set down solid rules. The whole process would be unfair, as Cheat might be subjective as well, and thus rules that are good, and objective, would be much more efficient. On the off-chance that you aren't just trolling, why don't you tell me what you think proper objective and good rules would look like? 14320
The Flood / Re: I just want to check with everyone here« on: October 12, 2014, 04:56:05 AM »You can't be this simple minded.Room for interpretation is necessary. If a ninja crosses the line, it's up to the community to speak up about it and for Cheat to make the final decision. 14321

The Flood / Re: Who here loves/hates GMO?« on: October 12, 2014, 04:51:03 AM »Research how? What is it that they're supposed to research, and how are they supposed to research it?Mainly risk assessment (health risks and consequences for non-modified foods) and research on what the introduction of GMO's would mean for the global market and development of third world countries. 14324
The Flood / Re: Would you be okay with only eating GMO?« on: October 12, 2014, 04:48:01 AM »
Seems like they're generally accepted to be safe for your health, but a lot of controversy still exists. I don't think I'd mind all that much.

As long as they're applied fairly and actual transparency is promoted, I don't have a problem with these rules.

This should probably be in Serious.
I personally have no issues with using genetically modified foods, but there needs to be more research done and a strong legal basis has to be created so that it doesn't end up pushing third world countries into more poverty. 14328

Serious / Re: Why Do People Get Upset About Removing the Pledge?« on: October 11, 2014, 05:04:54 PM »Last I heard, Cheat literally said he was the only one who could view IP's after what you did in Anarchy. He even made it so that they're not constantly visible but instead require him to go out of his way to find out what IP belongs to what user. Unless he recently changed that policy, of course. As far as I'm aware the 3 Master Ninjas can view IP's. Not that it would matter, if it was an alt it would have been perma banned right away.Cheat's the only one who can view IP's after certain recent events of moderator abuse.I guess you've never studied Islam, or for that matter Christianity. Please tell me it's Dustin. Besides, aren't you just a normal mod anymore? 14338

Septagon / Re: Coup and Ads« on: October 11, 2014, 03:10:06 PM »Well... Yeah, I guess. That kind of limited customization is still possible, though. In that case I probably wouldn't mind. Just seems like an unnecessarily huge amount of work though. The background is fine the way it is, nice and uniform for all. I doubt anyone would make a big deal about wanting their own colored background.I don't think that's what anyone thinks of when talking about custom backgrounds though. Back in the days of Coup it meant being able to include a picture, for example. Spoiler Then again, you never know with some of the people here... |
