if the value of something cannot be observed or even described in words, then it probably has no value at all—"get laid and then come back to me" is the most childish cop-out rebuttal you could possibly make
I'm not going to continue this conversation for the reasons I already gave, but you're being deliberately obtuse if this is what you're now pretending that this was what my argument was like. You failed to substantiate why my reasons for it not being pointless to me were wrong and have done little more than give highly subjective value statements on why sex is so bad and all these alternatives are so much better. Don't go pretend now that this was all I said just because I'm not interested in keeping up with this discussion any longer.

South France is the best part. Hope you're enjoying yourself.
Work from 8am till 7pm so not a lot of time to enjoy myself. Food's alright though. Fancy hotel and everything included so there's that.

The only good thing about it is the Crowbcat video that highlights the autism.

implying Crowbcat himself isn't the textbook definition of autism and toxicity.
Crowbcat is great.

His/Her Halo video is one of their best.
Halo 4/5 did have some absolutely amazing songs though.

I bet it will still sell like  sliced bread.

Ppl shit on cod (for good reason), but it still ends up being the best selling game every year for over a decade now without fail.
The silent majority will always overshadow the loud minority.
It's not even just the silent majority. These reddits are filled with people complaining about microtransactions, but most of them have bought the game anyways. Same with Shadow of War and just about any other game that does this. The fans hate on the payment stuff but, as they are fans after all, still just end up buying the game just the same.

i think there's a degree of closed-mindedness and willful ignorance that i think you personally need to get over in order to see my point here
And I think you're just as, if not more, guilty of this as I am. I've never met anyone with such contrarian views on sexuality. Your most deeply held philosophy villifies everything related to reproduction. I remember you talking about how gross genitals are and how you should hate what they do. You have thought for years now that sex and just about everything that goes with it is disgusting, wasteful and borderline evil because of the possible consequences. This whole conservation can be summarized pretty easily. You called me out on saying I thought it was pointless to stop having sex because you think it's pointless to begin with. I gave you some very real benefits which I think make it anything but pointless, some of which you ignored (the role it serves in relationships) or didn't really get to (the prostate cancer one that isn't compensated by just urinating). Your response to that was giving me alternatives which don't all accomplish the same things while being as effortless, fun and effective (and no, I don't think it's false to say that 10 minutes of sexual stuff before bed is more fun or takes less effort than switching your diet or working out).

I'll gladly admit that we all have our biases, but I think that you've become so entrenched in your views that you are as "closed-minded and willfully ignorant" as anyone here, if not more so. Having a discussion about the practical benefits of sex is a difficult thing to do when one of the people involved already holds the opinion that it's disgusting, wasteful and evil, and is kind of pointless because there will never be scientific research that concludes that jerking off at the end of the day is the objectively best way to spend those 15 minutes.

I also think that you are, to a certain extent, pretty clueless about some of this. As far as I know, you've never been in a committed and long-term relationship, or even had sex in the first place (although I might be wrong here). I think you underestimate how important that kind of intimacy can be for bonding, building trust and maintaining a healthy relationship. If you've never experienced this, it's near impossible to really understand. But either way, this is a pretty futile discussion. If we continue this a dozen more posts, it'll always just come back to how we should rationalize away all feelings and emotions, and how we should all live a certain way until everyone's stopped having kids and we're all dead, and that just makes these discussions a bit of a pointless chore in the end.

Why do these shootings have to bring toxic language, someone died, respect their lives even if you disagreed with them. And gun restriction never protected a nation, but a nation in tune with its political rights and liberties always kept their government in check even without guns.

If people really fear the overthrow of their democracy, then an educated population is the best at protecting the nation into becoming authoritarian. Gun rights never do it, as all it ends up doing is allowing gullible idiots to buy guns and sacrifice their liberties and enforcing their beliefs on others. Why civil wars become bloody, because families turn on each other. Only now half the country will be with the authoritarian government and the other half wont, while most will try to keep their head low and lament the fall of their nations, while trying to survive and get food on the table. We have seen it before,Rome, Greece, Germany etc.

The authoritarian groups never need to ban guns first, they need guns in the hands of their supporters, it is after they take control they take it away. But by then everyone who could resist them has been killed or persecuted.
Also, militias are much better at fostering dictatorships than overthrowing them.

Streamed a bunch of Quake but didn't really have any people watching Dark Souls, so I haven't continued any of that.
I wold have liked to have watched but my shitternet cant handle 720p 60FPS and Twitch for whatever reason would not let me lower my streaming quality
Great news and a pretty decent update for the stream. I've just been given quality options on all my streams. Once streams get a steady 5 viewers (give or take) and a few dozen followers, they get quality options for their viewers. I just unlocked the perk (yay) so you and anyone else should now be able to change the stream quality and pick 30 fps or 360/480. That way people like you can watch without issue.

Flee, imagine if every time you had sex there was a 1 in 100 chance the Quake would be erased from history
More like "if a 100 people had frequent sex for a year, 1 one of them would have Quake erased for them at the end". If you'd go by people having sex twice a week, that'd be one unlucky fuck out of 10,000 - with the possibility of lowering that further by doings things like pulling out or being aware of when the woman is most fertile. I'll take those odds.
then you're a silly person
For having a single video game erased for me? Verb, I would gladly have Quake erased with 100% certainty just to have a healthy sex life with my girlfriend.
i repeat my assertion
Lol. Don't ever change.

Does that include sex or what?
It's up to you, but I think having sex is sort of going against the spirit of the idea.
Eh, if sex is included I already failed anyways. Seems kind of pointless too.
i'm sitting here cracking up at the idea that it is pointless to avoid doing pointless things
But there's notable health and relational benefits to it, hardly making it pointless anymore. It also seems inconsistent with your whole philosophy to be so against suffering but then reject pleasure.
benefits that can surely be achieved elsewhere and in higher quantities

masturbation = 10-30 minutes of time wasted for 3-5 seconds of pleasure; that doesn't seem very efficient

and i don't need to talk about the risks associated with intercourse
I know the risks about intercourse but realistically speaking relationships generally require some level of sexual activity to survive. It's pretty essential.
The risks are also pretty minimal in many relationships. Don't have STDs and use some form of protection, and the risks are almost completely gone.
the safest sex possible is 98.8% successful (over the course of a year of sex)

if every time you had sex, there was a 1 in 100 chance for your head to explode (or something equally horrific), would you still do it
That's not how that statistic works. "For example, when used correctly the male condom is 98% effective, but that's not to say there is a 2% chance of becoming pregnant every time you use one. A 2% failure rate actually means that for every 100 woman using the contraceptive method for an entire year, two will experience an unintended pregnancy."
this was specifically noted in the post

not entirely sure how you missed that when it's two lines long
Because you then went on to say "if every time you had sex, there was a 1 in 100 chance for your head to explode (or something equally horrific), would you still do it", which is a wrong interpretation of that statistic. And as I pointed out in that other comment, that'd be more like 1 in 10,000 depending on how often these people had sex.

But we're not talking about your position or about whether you think it's a benefit. We're talking about me and whether I should consider these things (any more) beneficial than what I'm currently doing.

You also didn't really respond to what I asked for. Of course there's other things you can do that give similar benefits. But is there something as quick, effortless, cost-efficient and fun that does the same thing? Everything you've listed takes more money, time or effort than sex all while being much less enjoyable. I also don't see why you couldn't combine them. It's possible to eat fruit, exercise and have a sex life, and in doing so reap more benefits than you could ever get just from doing the first two alone. You haven't really made the case that any of these are better, more efficient or give more benefits than something as simple as having a sex life, and some are just wrong (the urination one to get rid of these toxins, for example, because the whole research underlying this points out how ejaculation does this in a way nothing else can). It's not an or question. It's a "I already eat healthy and exercise, why would doing any more of these things be more efficient than having sex as well" question?

You say it yourself in your final paragraph. It's about cost efficiency. You can eat tons of fruit, exercise, switch to a plant-based diet and all of that, but they'll take more time and effort than just having sex, which also has the added benefit of being entertaining. I exercise, I eat fruit, I do plenty of things that are stress relieving and intellectually stimulating. But making time for sex gives additional health benefits, brings me closer to my partner, supports the relationship and helps me relieve stress in a way that nothing else has ever done. To me, it's far from pointless and nothing in your post has really substantiated that these alternatives are better, more cost/effort efficient or would do me any good in comparison to what I'm already doing. You obviously disagree, but I don't think it's pointless and haven't seen you make a convincing argument that these other things are more cost efficient or better alternatives that would give me the same result.

You are welcome to substantiate the same benefits you'll get elsewhere with the same amount of effort. I'm particularly interested in things like improving your immune system, lowering the chance of prostate cancer, ridding yourself of disease-causing toxins building up in your urinary tract, reducing the risk of erectile dysfunction, improving the quality of sperm, relieving tension, helping people sleep and so on. I very much doubt that you'll be able to find something as easy, fun and quick that does all of those things at once.

And if all you get out of 30 minutes of sex or masturbation is 3-5 seconds of pleasure then you're doing something wrong.

The argument also seems to apply to just about everything. If you make the argument that video games aren't pointless because you get something out of it, then I'm sure there's things that'll achieve the same benefits.

a lot of the time masturbating is tied to watching porn, and watching porn can have a detrimental affect on your relatioships.

the philisophy doesnt account for pleasure whatsoever, because pleasure is a completely separate beast; the two aren't connected. avoiding suffering doesn't mean seeking pleasure.

so if you believe all this AND don't give a shit about your health, masturbation IS pointless.
We specifically included sex though, and not just masturbation. And "giving a shit about your health" is pretty far from pointless.

i would say sex doesnt really serve much of a purpose either if youre against child birth

i dont really care if you want to take care of your body, but if someone doesnt give a shit about living then health benefits are pointless.
I'd say sex can serve a pretty substantial purpose for relationships and (like masturbation) for general health. And I think that even most nihilists or antinatalists (who seem to be pretty against suffering) would also care their about their health, at least to the extent that it doesn't end up causing suffering to yourself and those around you.

I also don't understand the direction this is going in. Depending on whose point of view we're talking about, literally anything can be pointless, making this entire conversation moot from the start. Having sex is a great stress reliever, facilitates bonding, improves (most) relationships and has a lot of medical benefits to it. There's a myriad of benefits to doing these things which make them have a point to myself and the vast majority of people. In my opinion, that makes it not pointless by a reasonable standard. Whether everyone here agrees, I really don't care about.

The meanings aren't arbitrary if we're going to effectively communicate tho.  But yeah, gendered cases is annoying, especially when they don't make sense.  z.b. das Mädchen (the girl), das is neutral whereas die is feminine.  Why isn't it die Mädchen? Who tf knows (other than words ending in -chen always being neutral, but c'mon)
Because it's technically a diminutive.
