I tend to note those with standard Bungie avatars (inc custom emblems) seem more serious e.g. Risay/Mr. Psycho/Deci/Zizzy, although Camnator throws this off quite a bit.
But why not me?
Troll.
But y? :(

>implying strict gun laws will stop criminals
>implying criminals follow laws
Well, I actually would argue that in some settings, gun control can bring down gun crime. It's clearly working alright for the UK.

That said, what works in one country won't necessarily work in another. There are simply too many guns floating around here for something like what the UK has to work properly.

The UK laws also leave the people basically fucked if their government goes to shit and starts to go authoritarian, though, so I wouldn't call that a total win.

I'm pretty sure this is a logical fallacy but I can't remember what it's called.
UK also never had the guarantee of guns as a right, nor do they function on the same legal concept as the US
I feel like now is a good time to point out that the 2nd Amendment itself does not grant Americans the right to bear arms.

The Constitution is largely based on the concept of natural rights, an idea I myself subscribe to.

What the 2A does is ACKNOWLEDGE that it is, in fact, a natural right, and guarantees that that natural right shall not be infringed by the government.
Whether or not the right to own firearms is a fundamental and natural right is widely debated, which is illustrated by the small amount of governments and institutions recognizing it as a constitutional or fundamental human right.
If you really want to get into it, the very idea of fundamental or natural rights is debatable.
My point exactly. What's being propagated is that your second amendment is an expression of an undisputable natural right, that it is some sort of absolute truth and that simply pointing at the constitution as a direct verification of what's natural and fundamental while yelling "shall not be infringed" is enough to end all gun control debates.

It's too disputed to be an acceptable justification on its own.

Because right-wingers gonna hyperbole.
Fair enough. Never was a fan of these attempts at undermining people's arguments by trying to discredit them on irrelevant grounds.

>implying a survey conducted on 0.0003% of the country's population makes a difference

Come on Door, even you know better than jumping on sensationalist media like this. Going by the same poll, there's still over 70% of all Democrats and close to 70% of all Liberals supporting stricter gun control. This won't make any Democrat politician suddenly decide not to push for stricter gun control.

Serious / Re: Say Russia colonizes mars first
« on: November 02, 2014, 03:02:41 AM »
International Space Treaty prohibits colonization, so no.

Wait, really?

Does that mean any form of putting humans on mars or does it refer specifically to claiming territory for a country/state?
To answer your question very briefly, one of the general principles at the basis of the space treaty is that outer space and the celestial bodies in it are considered to be common heritage of mankind. Because of this, exploration of outer space should always be free to all and be done or the greater good of the human race. In other words, every country has the right to put humans on any planet for peaceful purposes of exploration and research, and no country can claim (part of) a planet for its own.

Quote
Art. 1 OST

The exploration and use of outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, shall be carried out for the benefit and in the interests of all countries, irrespective of their degree of economic or scientific development, and shall be the province of all mankind.

Outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, shall be free for exploration and use by all States without discrimination of any kind, on a basis of equality and in accordance with international law, and there shall be free access to all areas of celestial bodies.

There shall be freedom of scientific investigation in outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, and States shall facilitate and encourage international co-operation in such investigation.

Art. 2

Outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means.

Pretty sure that's just the moon. Even then, if it's the one I'm thinking about, the only countries that signed were ones that couldn't into space.
Nope, wrong on both accounts. The OST (Outer Space Treaty) has been signed by over a 100 countries, including all of the ones that can into space. It also doesn't just apply to the moon, but covers any and all celestial bodies.

Spent the day in Italy with my girlfriend.
I hope you have fun and keep having fun.
Thanks, we sure are. Only downside is that she caught a pretty bad cold and is feeling sick most of the time. Other than that, good times are had.
Thats too bad but at least you are away and enjoying yourself. Most people in this place cant say the same.
This place being the Flood? And yeah, I am enjoying myself. Just that nagging feeling of having to go back to "work" on Monday and my girlfriend already leaving in a week. :/

If you wanted something challenging, you probably should've gone into a different field. Not that I'd really recommend it though, part of why I'm doing what I do is because I too wanted a challenge after high school. I can safely say I rather regret it at this point.
