"must-have" assumes you have a well-rounded palate; splatoon 2 and sonic mania are fucking dope and have received universal acclaim, but if you're not into either franchise, you can skip them—but that doesn't leave you with a whole lot

the console itself has its follies, but i think it's pretty great overall, principally because of the sheer utility of being able to take it on the go, and the seamless transition between the two states is pretty fucking revolutionary

you might not like the joycons—in fact, i expect you to hate them—because they're VERY small, but they get the job done once you get used to them, and being able to sit in any position you want while playing is very nice

the biggest problems with it are the extremely fragile screen, which would probably rank a 2 on moh's hardness scale, the asinine placement of the AC adapator port (directly under the machine), and the chintzy little kickstand they give you is an absolute joke

i would recommend waiting a bit longer for more games to come out, if zelda and mario alone aren't enough
Wow, my palate is as round as they come, thank you very much. Just not too big on weebshit and overly infantile stuff (both of which are Nintendo staples). Sonic has just never been my thing because of the semi "on rails" gameplay (the emphasis on constant but very linear speed always gave me that impression) and Splatoon looks like a brightly colored and casual third person shooter with nothing special going for it that'd get me to play it more than a few games. I tried the first one on display at a game store and felt done with it after one match.

Console sounds about what I expected. Anything about a new Smash Bros or Pokemon?

Splatoon and Sonic? Never liked any of the Sonic games and the first platoon looked awful to me. Why are they must-haves? And what about the console itself?

For anyone here who bought the base game but not the dlc.

https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/7i1l2n/you_can_get_sonyms_to_refund_your_purchase_thanks/

Basically, since the dlc made the prestige raid inaccessible, getting the achievement/trophy is behind a paywall even though the achievement was for the base game. So, you could get a full refund.
Wait, they seriously require you to buy the DLC to pay for missions that were actually part of the base game and that you could play before the DLC came out? Holy shit Bungie has fallen far, I wonder if there's a legal argument to be made here.

I tried streaming CS last night and got terrible in-game performance despite me being able to play much more demanding games like Battlefield 1 or Doom 2016 at the highest settings and on 144fps without any issues whatsoever.

Fair enough! As I said, I think my points are accurate and truthful, but I know that this doesn't necessarily make the game any less fun to some.

Also, how good are you? Because I need a coach. :p

Anytime, though now that i think back, i think you have to be a certain casual rank before you can go to comp
I'll play CS if you're in my stream.

Why you no Titanfall 2?
I've played Titanfall 2 several times but not in the last week. I even have my own Network and a happy hour and shit. I'm new to the game and it seems to be going well, but I can always do with more advice.
What's your loadout fam
I don't have a specific one but have just been trying stuff out. I've been using the CAR, Spitfire LMG, Kraber and then some SMG's. I usually use Tone as my titan and like the perk that heals you and gives a speedboost.
>playing meta loadouts

You're probably using the most effective loadout in the game right now. If you like the Kraber, they updated the game so the Wingman Elite revolver can be equipped as a primary. It performs like a Kraber except only killing on a headshot (2 to the body), but is projectile. The EPG is basically an arena shooter style rocket launcher and it's really fun to use.

Tone's a pretty well rounded Titan if a bit bland. I'm fond of Legion, Scorch and Northstar myself.
I'm just trying out all different stuff. No clue what's meta or not, even though people have told me SMGs are particularly powerful.

Counter Strike is more "realistic" in the sense that it really only takes a few bullets to kill somebody. It's not like Quake where you have to shoot a guy with a rocket launcher 4 times lmao. Especially when it comes to bullet spread, you should be more accurate when you're standing still and crouching. Again, it's not Quake, you can't run around at 100mph jumping all over the place and have pinpoint accuracy.

I honestly haven't played Counter Strike since way back when, I only played this new one for a little while but it's basically the same as the old version(s).
Yeah, I know all of that and I agree. Like I said, I just don't think it's all that fun to play. I prefer fast and twitchy over slow and campy, full accuracy and precision over a certain degree of randomness (which can be managed to a certain degree), and individual skill and tactics over team level coordination. I'm not bashing CS. It's just a different type of the FPS that I enjoy less. It's like people who prefer faster and arcadey racing games with drifting and nitrous over the more lifelike racing sims, or the faster and more intense fighting games like Tekken and Street Fighter over the slower and more methodical / realistic fighting games like UFC.

Okay then let me ask you this. If its going to be all fine, why does Newgrounds have a warning pop up on this urging its users to call their local congressmen?

This means it can affect websites too. That includes Sep7agon.

I know this place isn't big like NG but it still counts. We're not a private website. If all of our posts are google indexed and the site is visible to guests, we're pretty much public.
Why exactly do you think this will affect sep7agon? I really cannot see how it would, yet you're talking about it with almost certainty.

It could very much effect Simple Machines. They host us.
Fair enough, but I think it's unlikely that this will happen. Cheat can also pick a host in a different country, so we'll end up being fine.

Most people just go with one of a few mobile carriers for their internet access, even at home. It's a lot like the non-competitive market in the states. I'm not convinced that ending or changing the current laws will plunge the U.S. into a dark age of internet (nor did it prior to 2015). I do support net neutrality.
I agree with you on that. I support net neutrality but think there's a generous amount of exaggerating and doomsday scenarios being thrown around on the pro-NN side as well. And I don't doubt that most people stick with one of a few (mobile) carriers in Japan, but it is to my knowledge still more competitive than the US where home internet is still very common and many people simply do not have any real choice whatsoever. I've done some reading after your last post and found a government report (albeit slightly outdated) saying there's sufficient competition as well as some published studies that are only now (2016 and after) finding issues with competition, which is why the authors suggested net neutrality becoming a formal law in Japan as well.

Quote
We're kind of talking about two different ramifications, although some might claim they go hand in hand. One is that the internet is divided into tiered service bundles allowing you to add or remove certain high-bandwidth services like streaming video or gaming, and the other is the the potential for competitors to impose restrictions on each other, influence political content, etc. The latter is what really concerns me, whereas the former just seems like an extension of the current subscription plans various services already impose. I think most people like your girlfriend's family see the removal of NN as the chance that Cox might let them pay less since they don't play internet games or stream Netflix, when in could mean much more.
I don't think it's unreasonable to claim that they go hand in hand. Imposing these packages can be harmful to beginning businesses who might miss out on traffic or simply won't be able to pay or compete with larger competitors who can be included in the preferential / fast lane. And even though the anti-competition or political influence consequences are much more worrisome, I sure am not interested in being excluded from certain parts of the most free and global network ever created unless I pay to have specific parts of it unlocked. This isn't like cable where copyright, intellectual property, editorial decisions and whatnot are hugely important. I also think that some of the concerns (for example, people paying more for services they don't use) are very often unfounded as we do already have data plans (something which does not violate net neutrality at all). My grandma doesn't stream or play video games, so she gets by with the cheapest internet package giving her slower speeds and a datacap of a few dozen gigs a month. Internet usage and speed does not require a one size fits all approach, but that doesn't mean that the actual content of what people see and use it for should be restricted or differentiated between.

I don't think we actually disagree on this issue. We both support net neutrality and are skeptical of some of the doomsday scenarios. I also don't believe that the internet will be dead upon the removal of these rules. The rest of the world will do just fine and even in the US I don't think it'll be that disastrous. I just think that there is a reason for its repeal and no matter what it ends up being, it doesn't look for the consumer.

Blatantly incorrect BS and fake news doesn't deserve much more than a generic reply.

It's legit depressing seeing how such easily debunked propaganda and fake news (literally the very first google result for "Obama internet UN" is a fact check and complete debunk of your comment) is gobbled up by uninformed people just because of confirmation bias. The proliferation of this kind of misinformation flourishing and the subsequent election of Trump and Brexit are some of the biggest disillusions of the last few years.

I live in a country without codified net neutrality laws and the internet is the same as in the states. I'm interested to see what restrictions ISPs would place on VPNs though. With broadband access becoming increasingly less expensive for ISPs to provide, even at high speeds and bandwidth usage, there doesn't seem to be much of a reason to implement these hypothetical plans except as an attempt to eek out a bit more profit from customers, but at a huge risk given the public attitude towards exclusive plans.
I think there's two things to keep in mind though. One, Japan has long had a much more competitive ISP market than the US, although it's recently been dwindling and formal net neutrality rules are being proposed. In the US, 80% of the country has only 1 or 2 carriers offering broadband speeds to choose from. There is a lot less competition and consumer choice, giving ISP's a lot more power to adopt these kind of practices. Two, there's a lot more to this than just legal net neutrality protections. Consumer protection, telecoms standards and quality of service requirements, antitrust / competition law and the influence of supervisory authorities (which is sorely lacking with the FTC in the US) are all important aspects of this, and while I'm no expert on Japanese law, I do know that the US isn't exemplary in many of these due to the power big companies have. That is all just to say that there's a lot more that goes into this than whether or not net neutrality is a formal law or not. Just because Japan gets by without it very well does not mean other countries will do the same.

I also think that the public attitude is probably overstated. When I brought up the issue with my girlfriend's family two weeks ago in the US, none of them had heard about it before. When I explained what might happen, they didn't think that the tiered / laned internet sounded that bad and would shrug at it becoming like a cable box service. The online minority just shouts very loudly while I'm willing to bet a very large chunk of the population doesn't care and wouldn't be too bothered by these practices.

My issues with CS can be summed up very quickly. I went into them in detail during my stream today, but I'll give you the shortened version.

Spoiler
1. Inaccurate weapons. I hate them. It's one of my worst pet peeves in shooters. I can understand some bullet spread and definitely some recoil too, but I can't stand how CS does it. Your bullets have enormous spread and are completely random if you fire while walking. I know you can learn the patterns of recoil and deal with them, but even they don't really apply when you're moving fast. In order to be accurate, you need to be pretty much entirely still, tap the fire button and crouch if possible. This even shows in high tiers of players where pros in major tournaments who surprise each other end up doing a lot of spraying and randomness / luck playing a big factor in who comes out on top. Huge negative for me.

2. Pace of the game. It's slow and extremely campy. You don't see anyone for minutes on end and then most fights end in a quick burst. You play the game walking slowly with your crosshair lined up with a door or passage that you expect an enemy to come through. Hugging corners and clipping your head over boxes is a big part of the game's core gameplay and I'm just not a fan of that. Death comes quickly, punishes you hard and has you sit out the next couple of minutes doing nothing. It promotes snail-paced gameplay and campy tactics.

3. The tactics. CS tactics are really not very deep or extremely complicated. It's an asymmetrical game with maps that don't have a lot of verticality and tend to consist of only a few main routes. The CT side swarms out and covers key choke points. The T side spreads out and runs a set-up. Grenades, smokes and flashes are thrown. Callouts are made and the composition of who stands where changes slightly. I haven't even watched all that much competitive CS and even I already see recurring strategies and identical scenarios playing out. There's mindgames and obviously a decent amount of tactics involved, but the thinking required is ultimately pretty limited and in my opinion pretty lackluster.

That said, CS:GO is still a good game. I just don't enjoy these three aspects of it. It's what pushed me away from the game in the past. I want and intend to give it another chance because it can be pretty hype, fun and high adrenaline, but I just feel like it's fundamentally not my thing.
Coming from a arena shooter perspective, its what i expected. Id somewhat disagree on all points though.
I dont wanna be THAT guy but some of this can be attributed to inexperience <.<

Please do try to play competitive though because its the proper experience.
Can you elaborate? I don't think anything I said is incorrect. One of my friends is a CS semi-pro who played in a bunch of tournaments. We've discussed this several times and even he agrees with just about everything I said. I mean, you can disagree with me that these things make the game less fun, but I'm curious where you think I'm just flat-out wrong.

There is a great deal of inaccuracy to the weapons. I don't see how that's wrong to say. Watch any competitve match and you'll see that he vast majority of kills involve someone crouching or standing pretty much entirely still, as doing anything else (with most weapons) turns your shots into a random mess. Up close confrontations are aiming at the other person's chest area, dragging your mouse down to compensate for recoil and hoping for the best. There are ways to manage the randomness better (crouching, tapping left/right, standing still) but I simply don't like them.

The game is slow. That's even more of a fact than the first point. Time spent firing at people or being fired at is a really small portion of the game. Most of it is spent walking in between chokepoints and keeping your crosshair at a doorway. I again don't see how that is wrong to say. This is a pro match between two top teams. Click just about anywhere on the timeline and you're almost guaranteed to see people standing around, peaking over boxes or around corners, or just holding down areas of the map or slowly advancing through them until they run into a person on the other side doing the same.

The tactics is something I can concede I know the least about and might be wrong. I've just followed the esports scene for quite a while and never really found anything to prove me wrong. There's a lot of mindgames and faking going on, but that's all at the team level which is problematic if you don't have a team to play and coordinate with. I feel like there's not that much going on at the individual level and even watching Launder's Playbreakers videos on supposedly incredible / brilliant plays are not all that impressive to me.

I'm not attacking the game. It's cool to watch at a high level and it does take a lot of coordination, team strategy and aim skills. There's no denying any of that and for those reasons I do want to get into the game more. But to me, having to deal with the inaccuracy of guns is detrimental to the gunplay, the slow and campy pace of the game is kind of boring, and the relative shallowness of individual tactics is kind of offputting.

I plan on playing the game again in the futre and stream myself learning it. I'd appreciate your input. :)

I haven't. I've played less than a dozen games of CS:GO (including offline against bots) altogether and none of them were ranked. Let me write down my thoughts on CS in a bit.

And is Silver the lowest? I'm not big on CS, but I've always been good at FPS games so I don't doubt I could do well with some practice.

Obama also halved unemployment since he took office, had the longest continuous streak of job growth of any president ever recorded and the American national debt is already up half a trillion dollars since Trump took office, with most analyses showing his plans will add another 5 trillion to that number (or a full quarter of what it is now) if he manages to push his policies through. Post factual society here we come.

America has over 3.3% growth thanks to Trump.
Obama hit over 5% in the same quarter in 2014. It's almost as if there's more that goes into this than just one president doing something.
I don't think it ever went over 1 under Obama. Unemployement and debt rose to a new level under the Obama administration.

At least we know "Trump is destroying the economy" is bullcrap now.
Obama only went under 1% for one of the 32 quarters he was president. There hasn't been a single year he went under 1% and there's been a lot of quarters where he went over Trump’s 3.3%.

Do you just not even care to be truthful in anything you say anymore, provided that you're not trolling (which you probably are)? I don't understand how there's people who will get proven wrong with literally everything they say and have every argument they make be debunked completely still are incapable of changing their opinions.

America has over 3.3% growth thanks to Trump.
Obama hit over 5% in the same quarter in 2014. It's almost as if there's more that goes into this than just one president doing something.
