So all that's left is robot dude and then it's time for the big finale?

I'm guessing the weaker characters (Androids) and maybe Gohan are going to lose to the robot as the others defeat him. That way you'll have Goku, Vegeta, Gohan and Frieza up against Jiren, moustache and rabbit. Goku against Jiren, the others against one another.

Why didn't anyone just quickly take out Paparoni
the robots would have just protected him
Probably wouldn't have if Gohan had just attacked him while the robot was defending against Vegeta and Goku's energy beams. Instead of doing this whole "I'm not gonna waste this chance" and fire on the robot, he could've just kicked the shit out of the wizard dude.

Second amendment  used for its purpose when?
I know you're joking, but probably never. It's one of the biggest flaws with the whole "armed militia ready to overthrow the government turned dictatorship" argument. The American people, probably now more than any other time in recent history, are extremely divided. Each side has its own "breaking points" but what these are and where the limits lie are completely different. The general idea of stopping a tyrannical government from oppressing its people is the same, but what constitutes tyrannical and oppressive is very subjective. The alt left might think it's acceptable and even good that the government starts throwing people in prison for using the wrong pronoun for trans people, while the alt right might rise up against what they perceive as tyranny. Vice versa, the alt right might think it's the right thing for the government to round up all Muslims in camps and deport them, while the alt left might see this as clear oppression and revolt.

Even within each (vague) group, there's going to be a lot of different opinions on when violence and the use of firearms is necessary or called for. Some will continue supporting peaceful protests and put their hope in the democratic process to fix things, while others will call for violence much sooner. The "absolute" breaking point of full on soldiers marching through the streets and shooting people for having the wrong opinion is not going to happen, so there's always going to be massive disagreements on what the tipping point is. And this isn't anything new. Think back just a few decades of the revelations of mass surveillance in the US. Many people were appalled and opposed it tremendously, but millions agreed with the likes of Nixon that this was in the country's best interests and security.

If a large group actually rises up against the government, it will cause an all out civil war and things will backfire tremendously. If a smaller group rises up, it'll just be seen as a bunch of stupid nutjobs acting up (as is the case with the "sovereign" people who hold down a ranch, start a cult and get into a fight with the FBI over illegal activities).

And all of that doesn't even touch upon the other issues, like what would happen after a revolt. If it failed, we'd see insurgency warfare in a civil conflict with the government and the other groups cracking down on them hard. If it succeeded, we'd now have a new and even more tyrannical government in place that'd be oppressive over the other sides.

It sounds nice at first and on paper, but it either needs a society with similar views of what government behavior is acceptable and when revolts are the answer (which in the US is about as far from being the case as possible) or a government that crosses an absolute line quickly and boldly (which in the US is never going to happen). In recent history, non-violent protests and the use of the democratic process has been much more successful to bring change than armed violence. Armed militias are much more likely to lead to tyranny than prevent or overthrow it.

Spoiler
What did you think of Super-Leia?

And the completely pointless Finn sidequest
Spoiler
Really stupid. Just like half the other things in the movie. The predictable hail mary in the opening fight.
The fact that every important character comes close to dying but doesn't. (Leia in space, Poe with the explosion in the hangar, Finn with the execution, Rose with the speeder, Rey with Snoke). The "don't attack what you hate, save what you love". The everyone knows Luke is going to train her but let's spend the first half of the movie on her trying to convince him. The "wow we got locked up with a master code cracker just when we needed one?". The "wow it's the little kid who's going through the exact same thing Rose went through who now just happens to be where they're escaping". The "wow they're about to be arrested or killed when somehow BB8 and hackerman just so know where they are". The comic relief reactions when almost killed and the fate of the entire galaxy seems doomed but haha this is a natural response. The entire "our guns aren't accurate enough, we're just too slow and they're just too fast so we'll just do this for the next 18 hours" bullshit. And so, so much more.

Don't get me wrong, there was really good stuff too. The overall sound, visuals, action and plot. Finn and Rose meeting. The Rey + Kylo and Snoke moment. The admiral's plan and Finn's reaction / character development. Kylo becoming the Supreme Leader. Rey's parents actually being nobodies (subject to change, of course). But the bad stuff was so eye-rollingly bad that it actually annoyed me.

Also, don't forget that this is now headed for the courts. The real battle for the American open internet is really only just beginning.

Anyways, as for the movie (no spoilers):

- Great visuals
- Great sound
- Pretty good general story direction
- Great action scenes

But then the dumb shit. Ugh. Just about every other scene had something that made me want to roll my eyes. Deus ex machina upon deus ex machina. Pacing issues and extremely unlikely events happening all the time. Every time the movie hints at something interesting happening, it's quashed the minute after. There's really good stuff too, but as Big Boss says, the dumb just shone really, really damn bright and dragged the movie down to me just feeling frustrated or annoyed way too often.

Worth the watch? Yeah, but only just because it's Star Wars and there's some cool and visually impressive stuff. Worth watching twice? Only reason I'd want to do that is so I could have a notepad and write down all of the dumb stuff as it happens.

i've never been to a film with an intermission, but i actually don't mind the concept
Not the biggest fan. It's a pretty unwelcome break and it exists only to get people to step outside for a minute and buy more popcorn or soda.

Yeah, it's pretty bad news. Happy to be far away from the US for stuff like this, or I'd be salty about it too. Good luck over there, I hope it doesn't make it.
only, remember that most of the top websites on the internet (as well as its infrastructure) are still based in the US

so this actually affects the entire world

job well done
I don't really think so. The idea that "the infrastructure" (or most of it) of the internet lies in the US is a pretty  slanted way of presenting how the internet actually works and how data traffic operates through low tier networks, webhosts and IXP's. The vast majority (around 80%) of the world's international cross-border bandwith actually goes through Europe, not the US, and has done so for the past decade and a half. The effects of this are almost guaranteed to be minimal for other developed countries with stronger internet regulations than the US. The top websites you're referring to are big enough to have a global presence that greatly transcends the US alone. The effects, if any, are going to be limited to them changing their behavior in a way that it indirectly affects Europeans as well through things like different business practices caused by lost revenue. The US hasn't been the leader when it comes to digital policy in quite and its repeal of net neutrality is unlikely to matter much here. If anything, it's going to drive more companies and startups towards the EU and the benefit of Europe.

I'm all in favor of net neutrality. As part of my education and job, I've probably been aware and in support of it longer than anyone on this site. This is bad news, but it remains to be seen whether the worst case scenarios will actually happen, and the effects on the rest of the developed world are likely to be small.

I didn't use my phone during the movie you shits. For whatever reason, the movie had a break in the middle. Literally never seen that before over here.
I didn't realise those were still a thing. Last time I saw one was during the Chamber of Secrets.
I haven't seen one in forever either. Last one was when I was in Montana and saw a movie there. I'm hoping this was just a dumb Star Wars thing here and not a new trend.

I'm going to have to watch this whole thing some time.

"In your advocacy, what exactly do you do?"
- You've asked that like 3 times.
"Yes, but I need to hear you say it again."
- Can the pasta shut up while I say it because he's interrupting.
"Yes, yes, pasta is quiet. Pasta, pasta, will you be quiet?"
- Pasta (off-screen): I AM OUTRAAGED

Props to the dude on the left for keeping his composure with these people.

Comedy gold but damn sad too.

Also, host seems like a pretty solid guy. Clueless and a bit blunt, but seems like he's fair at least.

Who's left standing at this point? Looks like we're getting close to the big final. Gohan, Vegeta and Frieza have all been slacking off for most of this. Time for them to do some work too while Goku gets ready for Jiren.

Maybe I need to get into this with the Arcade Edition.

it worked for me because i simply don't allow trailers to color my perception or expectations anymore, which is also why i can't bring it to myself to hate games like no man's sky, even though the internet says that i have to
I don't think the internet really wants you to hate the game but just how it was managed. I never cared about it and haven't even played it, but there were a lot of shitty things surrounding the game. Blatant lies of mechanics and features that were advertised but never put into the game, really bad performance and constant crashes, a very late embargo on reviews and major delays on review copies being sent around so that the game launched before the reviewers had a chance on pointing out the issues with the game (which many suspected was intentional to stop people from finding out about the game's flaws and shortcomings), gameplay and events shown at events / trailers that were completely different from the final product... From what I've heard, the game's a lot better now after a year of patches and expansions, but a lot of the criticism was pretty valid. It's more of a "don't support the developers after how they lied, fucked up and misled people about the game" than a "you've gotta hate it because it sucks" type of deal.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is getting tons of fanfare from people I follow on twitter who have played it. Verb will say its meh because its "anime" so ignore that.
You saw a game that looked like this and thought I should play it? How long have you known me Rocket?

you might like the fact that doom is on the system, and that it plays much better than you'd expect (not that i've played it—i'm going by the word of others), but not if you can't deal with anything other than k+m

which sonic games have you played, out of curiosity
Bit disappointing those games aren't any closer, but it's good they're at least on their way. I'm not too interested in Doom. Not because I mind playing FPS on console (I played tons of Halo, CoD and many others on the Xbox 360 / One over the years), but I already own the game on Xbox and PC. It's good, but I don't see any reason to buy it again on the Switch just to play at lower framerates and a smaller resolution.

I couldn't tell you exactly what Sonic games I played. I owned one or two of the 2D ones back on the gameboy and then played Adventure 1 or 2 on the Gamecube (I think 2). I'll admit that this was a long time ago though, so my opinion might have changed. I was just always more of Mario guy than Sonic. The linear speed made it feel more like a "on rails" button pressing game than a normal platformer, although I guess the 3D one did somewhat better.
