Not sure if these kinds of threads are appropriate in Serious, but a mod will see it eventually.

Either way, in terms of advice I wished I had gotten sooner. . . Well, I wish somebody had told me that it's not a good idea to think of yourself as the central character of other people's narratives. I think we all do it, to some degree; we're always concerned whether people are looking at/thinking about us, and what kind of judgments they're passing. For me, however, it was (is) more of an issue with narcissism as opposed to self-esteem.
You make a great point tbh. It's best to think of yourself as a part of someone else's story and how you'll affect them instead of how they;ll effect you.

It's weird. The older I get the less interest I have in games. And keep in mind, I've loved games since I was a kid. I went from a Sega Genisis to current console.

But you know what, if a game doesn't have a half decent story then I don't care. Even Game With Gold only hold my attention doe so long.

Funhaus makes excellent points on the matter. It's just the more money and less time you have to spend on video games the less you care.

Like, I could buy every triple A title that comes out but I don't want to. I want a game that will make me want to play for 18 hours. A game than makes me wanna play after work instead of sleep.

Games are fickle. They're either broad enough to get everyone to play or they catch the story audience. It;s a hard line.

Honestly, it depends on your program. When I went to school I had many different colleges that offered the "same" program" but they were whole different. Honestly, do your research.

I'm $23,000 in debt to school but I don't regret it. A full ride would have been totally appealing to me. But it's all about what you get from the program.

Just be smart.

And at the end of it all, regardless of what you choose, know that there is roughly a one month withdrawal period where you can leave your school and get all your money back.

Just be logical and do what you wanna do.

Post secondary is scary, especially in this world of debt but if you ignore that and go for what you wanna do it'll be okay. Just be smart.

And I can't stress this enough, Go to post secondary early. High school diplomas only get you so far now and any sort of college or uni degree looks amazing anywhere.

The simple solution is to watch more anime.
I watched Inuyasha when I was I kid. I watch some of Naruto and I watched a lot of Monster Musume. But if it's not Pokemon, Digimon, or Dragon Ball Z I don't really get it.

I'm not sure what the point of this is. I'm going to be 24 and I feel like a lot of forum goers are younger than me. Even if they aren't I have some world knowledge.

College grad, full time employed, live on my own, have fought suicidal thoughts and self harm, have generally done okay for myself.

Ask me anything or contribute whatever.

This is mainly an advice thread/advice you wish you got sooner thread.

Souls is a throwback to traditional RPG's, rather than weebshit. Japanese influences are going to also be especially apparent when it's made by a Japanese company, that started on a system owned by another Japanese company, and had its initial release in Japan for the two games that made the series popular.
You are right that it is a throw back but to me it's not just a throwback to Western RPGs but mainly to JRPGs.

I haven't played Morrowind either. Waiting for the Skywind project to recreate the experience (though I don't really know why, old graphics don't bother me). Yeah, in Skyrim they don't really give a great depiction of the overall scope of the dragon problem. I'd like to see the brief war between the empire and the Thalmoor and the signing of the White-Gold Concordant. I actually liked Oblivion's setting more than Skyrim's.

I think doing Eleswyr and Valenwood combined would be interesting, desert in one side and dense forests in the other (not to mention the Thalmoor purges hinted at in Skyrim).
Morrowind and it's DLC is supposed to be some of the strongest TES series. But I own and Original Xbox Copy and it doesn't hold up. Maybe I'll DL a nice computer copy soon but that's neither here nor there.

Like you said. A nice, complex setting would be rad.

The controls definitely feel Japanese. ( Clunky and unintuitive )
The stat systems are all also very JRPG in nature.
That's the thing. I've watched "Lets Plays" out the ass on these games too see how generally Japanese the control systems and story telling is.

It just happens to have a broad English appeal. But I can guarantee that Dark Souls games sell bette in the Nihon.

I would say the major market is towards gamers that enjoy difficult rpg. There's really nothing Asian about them, it's a European setting and you're just being blatantly ignorant.
Wait, really? It almost unabashedly appeals to the unforgiving RPGs of Asia and purposefully caters to that style of unforgiving gameplay. Just because a game is set somewhere doesn't meant thats the influence.

Have you seen what Mario 2 was actually like in Japan vs. America? It was viciously unforgiving.

The Dead Souls games have a base mechanic of being unforgiving like many other Asian games.

It's a niche market that Dead Souls was able to break out of slightly but it's still not a triple A game.

I'm not so much ignorant as I'm bigoted to the concept of these purposely unforgiving RPG games.

Would you like to see a direct sequel to Skyrim, or have another time-skip? The Nazi elves definitely aren't going away anytime soon from the events in Skyrim, and depending on who won the civil war, Skyrim might be a more liable target for Thalmoor "intervention."

I'd like to see an Elder Scrolls exclusively take place between planes of Oblivion.
Honestly, I was too young to play Morrowind. The game is a bit too dated for me now. I've played a bit of all TES games but only completed everything since Oblivion.

I would like to see a game that take place closer to after the Oblivion Event. I want to see more references to the Hero of Kvatch. I want to see how Cyrodiil reforms itself. But I also want to experience a difference race based continent.

Give us a proper Daggerfall with Radguards and Orcs and how about Blackmarsh?

I just want to see them top themselves but I want some story inclusion to Oblivion. Because to me, Oblivion was world shattering. It effected all of Tamriel. The Oblivion Gates were everywhere. Whereas Skyrim felt contained to the Nords.

What does being Asian have to do with it
Do you not know the major markets audience for those games? It's the same with the Shenmue series or Final Fantasy. Most of the interest is from the Asian Market (or weeaboos?).

I also like the lore of TES (especially stuff about Planes of Oblivion and Akavir).
I really hope Bethesda takes a hint from Fallout 4 complaints and new rpgs >.>
Regardless, I'd still probably buy TES VI: Skyrim II
Basically. Like, I'd like to see a new continent/region but I'm not picky. Gimme that story.
