Why do so many liberals defend Islam to death?

I don't have a problem with individual Muslims who don't subscribe to the worst aspects of their religion, but fuck those aspects are terrible. The religion of Islam is far worse than Christianity on a base level (no other religion is as misogynistic), and I don't know why disliking it is seen as a "conservative" opinion.

Define "critical of Islam". I'd say I'm critical of Islam but most anti-Muslim dialogues seem to just be more about how much they hate Muslims rather than how they can work to mitigate the ideology.

Thing is for most westerners the effects of Islam isn't noticeable in their lives. The majority of experience they have with religious bigotry comes from Christians, because Christians have clout in Western countries, unlike Muslims. If there's some homophobic ruling in America it's going to be from Christians, not Muslims. It's pretty fucking obvious why a liberal in America is going to care more about Christian fundamentalists than Muslims.

Aren't women in that entire region historically behind in track record? I think women in the Sassanid Empire were treated like shit as well. Seems like even without Islam, it'd be shit. Not to say it doesn't play a part of it, because it does.

Conservative or not - it keeps an entire part of the world in the dark ages.

Check out pictures of Iran in 1970, that was back when Islam was on the same level as Christianity in the west (i.e just a religion - not a way of life).
Look at Iran streets today. This is after the religious reform when it came back into power over the state.

That's why some people criticise even the 'moderate' Islam because it still dictates how you should live.

Not everybody in those pictures are from the upper class, you just don't want to admit that the country turned into a shit hole due to Islam. The pitcher below and some of the ones in the URL you can easily tell they are everyday people, like the ones you would see in a place like the US during that time period. The below picture is literally a mirrored version of what 70's people in the US looked like.
