I've always wondered something about trans folk. Because our bodies naturally produce their respective hormones, does that therefore mean anybody who is trans has to keep taking suppliments to counteract the balance of naturally produced hormones versus delivered? Or is there some sort of balancing point where your body is just altered enough that it switches to producing the opposite kind in greater quantity naturally?

Essentially, you have to shut down your body's natural production of sex hormones using one drug, and introduce the desired hormones back into the body using another.

It's a lifelong treatment.

Kinda what I figured. That sounds semi-awful to have to rely on the medical system to provide the neccessary means, especially if you're american. I bet it costs a bit doesn't it?
