“For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens: as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone. It’s often meant we have stood neutral between different values. And that’s helped foster a narrative of extremism and grievance."

David Cameron

A counter-terrorism bill including plans for extremism disruption orders designed to restrict those trying to radicalise young people is to be included in the Queen’s speech, David Cameron will tell the national security council on Wednesday.

The measures would give the police powers to apply to the high court for an order to limit the “harmful activities” of an extremist individual. The definition of harmful is to include a risk of public disorder, a risk of harassment, alarm or distress or creating a “threat to the functioning of democracy”.

They would include a ban on broadcasting and a requirement to submit to the police in advance any proposed publication on the web and social media or in print. The bill will also contain plans for banning orders for extremist organisations which seek to undermine democracy or use HATE SPEECH in public places (like the internet).

As the party of one nation, we will govern as one nation: “Freedom of speech. Freedom of worship. Democracy. The rule of law. Equal rights regardless of RACE, GENDER or SEXUALITY".

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/04/18/breaking-news-g36s-cannot-hold-accuracy-bundeswehr-report-confirms/

Turns out, H&K defrauded the German government by cutting the polyamide in the receiver mix with polyethylene, aka milk jug plastic. In essence, the G36s made for the Bundeswehr were produced using substandard, adultered mix of plastics, not the 100% polyamides the design specifications require.

tl;dr: H&K = no compromise, except when it comes to using unauthorized substandard materials to defraud a government contract.

Serious / Kay so seriously, genocide
« on: March 27, 2015, 08:20:28 PM »
I think it's a bit dishonest to associate anti-natalism with genocide. Genocide implies the targeting of a specific group.

Let's look at the roots.

the Latin word gens or gentis, meaning birth, stock, race

And cidium, in it's french form cide, meaning killing

Genocide is the destruction of people based on their ancestry. We all know this, so I'm not sure why this has to be exained.

Let's look at some major genocides, shall we?

Armenian Genocide:
I consider the name here inaccurate, because Armenians were not the only target. Christian genocide might be more accurate. The ultranationalist Young Turks regime engaged in, and encouraged, the mass killing of Pontic Greek, Armenian, and Assyrian Christian populations within the Ottoman Empire. This was carried out by Muslim Turks, Kurds, and Arabs, mostly by the military.

Rwandan Genocide:
Mass killing of the Tutsi population of Rwanda by the Hutu majority after the assassination of the Hutu president. Pretty straightforward.

Holocaust:
Extermination of groups labelled subhuman by Germany's Nazi regime. Bit more emphasis on eugenics than ethnic cleansing, ethnic Germans were as likely to be targeted as others if they suffered from a disability. Possibly the most disturbing cases of this were the forced sterilizations of women suffering from ailments as mundane as depression or anxiety. German dissidents were killed as well. The Holocaust was, essentially, the Nazi regime's policy for the removal of undesirables.

Genocide targets specific groups. It is carried out largely by one or more other groups with the intent to destroy the target group.

I really don't see how anti-natalism is genocide, given that it is entirely based on inaction, not the use of force, and is not intended to target a specific group. In fact, anti-nataliism and force are antithetical. Anti-natalism is a radical view where extreme value is placed on consent. You may not, in this mindset, make any decision for another person, even choosing to give them life. At least, as I understand it.

This connection makes no sense to me. Historically, and especially today, your supersized big businesses like Google, Koch Industries, and Time Warner do not really do much to suppoet the free market. I meam yes, they like money, but they generally work to suppress competition. Big business tends to favor beneficial legislation and government corruption over innovation and competition.

So why is it some people get this image in their heads of the dirty greedy jew ancap/libertarian stomping on the backs of the poor consumer? These people hate it just as much as any other reasonable person, their proposed solutions are just different.

Serious / Why do we still talk about Christian fundamentalist loons?
« on: December 05, 2014, 05:17:21 AM »
I really don't see much that can be gained from this discussion anymore: Yeah, we get it, fundies are creeps. We already knew that. That has been the consensus for years.

If the conversation were going somewhere, maybe that they could be right about the bible being anti-gay, or that all Christians are dumb because it's basically a death cult, then it would be worth having. But neither of those ideas are kosher, so we're all deadlocked at "Fundies are bad. People who hate gays are despicable/not real Christians".

The discussion has turned into a disturbingly halfhearted circle jerk.
