Suppose you don't. I'm just saying--I don't think people think very hard about these things.
Getting lifts off a friend is another option. If you regularly travel a distance greater than what would be comfortable on a pushbike without having an income (like for job interviews and shit), you would admittedly be fucked. Which would be a good thing since said person is inconsiderate enough to think being in control of a tonne of metal without following a very clear set of safety guidelines is a good idea in the first place. Driving is only marginally cheaper than public transport anyway. You would still need a solid income for Fuel, Insurance, maintenance and registration.

I know very few people who passed on their first try. Might be different in the US, but they're pretty tough here. My brother was failed within 5 minutes for driving too close to the cars on the side and his girlfriend was told to just turn around and head back because she used her turn signal too late when starting to park. You're graded on 20 something categories and 1 "bad" is an instant fail, while 2 "insufficients" are too. Not looking forward to it, lol.
I wish they were that strict in Australia; The amount of people who remove the limiters from their trucks or flat out don't headcheck when changing lanes is fucked up.
