The Flood / Re: Which is more important: The result of your actions or the actions you took?« on: January 22, 2018, 06:53:25 AM »
On principle, the actions you took will mostly be more important regardless of the outcome, but if it’s a situation of extreme morality like the one in the OP, then to me the result is a more weighty factor. It more becomes about your personal values and whether the blood of a hundred is worth sparing for the sake of the blood of ten on your own hands, rather than result vs intended action to me.

Gaming / Re: Difficulty levels in videogames« on: January 18, 2018, 11:01:03 PM »they increased the AI’s ability to swerve to an impossibly high level and they have like a 100% hit rate with green shells, but the bounce on those things targets nearby racers anyway. But yeah it’s always known for its shenanigans but 8 is easily the worst offenderMario Kart AI handles difficulty like a sloppy shit and just gives them outright better stats than you across the board on top of the unfair rubber banding that you can’t even use to catch up if you fall behind. Again, it gives the AI tools the player can’t use and forces you to rely on good RNG to win some races where skill alone won’t cut it. Memories of that Fuckstain Toad robbing me of 90 consecutive 3-stars on the last lap of Rainbow Road in Mario Kart 8 will forever be ingrained in my brain. I haven’t gone near the special cup since I finally completed it. 1193
Gaming / Re: Difficulty levels in videogames« on: January 18, 2018, 05:54:33 PM »
I definitely prefer “skill” based increments where your enemies become more trigger happy/tactics oriented within reason.
Bungie games have never been that good at handling difficulty increases and always relied on making enemies spongey as fuck while you’re made of paper. They also give the enemies tools the player can’t use (impossibly high rates of fire and accurate range on their weapons, near frame perfect reaction times, etc) and it’s really unfun to deal with. It’s still humanly possible to manage but you need to play ultra lame and spend 90% of the time behind cover and playing defensively. Especially with the Jackal snipers in Halo 2 you pretty much need to know their spawn locations at all times, and peek to get a headshot within 2 frames or you’re dead. It also limits your available/viable weapons combos to 3-4 at most. What made the Unreal tournament AI so good was the damage tables remained equal, but on higher difficulties they timed rushing key spawn points to near perfection and placed a greater emphasis on you denying them access to better power ups and flanking. On InstaGib matches there was always that one enemy that would get you the frame you’re out of cover, but if you were good at strafing you could normally make them miss 2-3 shots and give yourself a better chance at winning. In essence, being better at movement, positioning and aiming got you a higher success rate. The bots from ‘99 are still as fun as ever to play against. It’s not just shooters either. Mario Kart AI handles difficulty like a sloppy shit and just gives them outright better stats than you across the board on top of the unfair rubber banding that you can’t even use to catch up if you fall behind. Compare this to, say, Forza Motorsport 2 where the AI becomes better at defending their position, taking the racing line and still not being unfairly good. 1194

Gaming / Re: Your least favorite games« on: January 16, 2018, 06:32:53 AM »
I resent Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts.
Even without the name it’s pretty subpar. It heavily recycles levels and the gameplay is 100% “drive here and do this” with no variation. The art style and graphics were superb (yet extremely strenuous on the Xbox 360) and that’s it. The rest is just meh. It was a huge letdown coming off the Nintendo titles and it really showed just how far Rare plummeted as a developer after Microsoft’s acquisition. The zany, inappropriate humour was completely gone. It lacked everything that made the original games great and didn’t compensate in any way. The original levels never felt like a grind (Rusty Bucket Bay, Jolly Roger’s Lagoon and Grunty Industries excluded) and they were quite large without making you feel lost, and they were unique from one another. In Kazooie especially, you were given new moves every level that not only added dimensions to the gameplay, but gave the player all the tools they needed to complete the level and move on. Collectibles were a challenge without being too hard to obtain (Rusty Bucket Bay’s propeller Jiggy excluded but that was literally 1 jiggy) and the words felt alive with the enemies and interactable NPCs. Nuts and Bolts had none of this. It tried to take the franchise in a new direction but Rare shit the bed and all we got was a recycling plant. I was so hyped for this game before I played it and man, I’ve only felt disappointment like that a handful of times before. It didn’t deserve to be a Banjo-Kazooie game. 1200

Smash 4 is put on the switch with the following changes:
-Needles > Bouncing fish no longer a combo at high % (Sheik) -Down/Up throw > up air no longer a 50/50 at high % (Diddy) -Rest flower deals 2% more damage (Puff) -Upsmash knockback reduced. 2 weeks later everybody realises its actually a buff as it now combos into anything (Bayonetta) -14 more Fire Emblem characters introduced. -Air dodging and rolling now have reduced end lag, making them even more unpublishable online |
