I understand and share that sentiment to an extent, but having read his posts it seems that he hates it even within the context of a loving relationship, and outright denies it can be positive in any way.

There are a lot good games this year Spoiler Game of The Year: Persona 5, even though Super Mario Odyssey probably will win and for good reasons, not only because fandom
Best Game Direction: Super Mario Odyssey, Zelda also has good chances
Best Narrative: NieR: Automata
Best Art Direction Either Persona 5 or Cuphead
Best Score/Music: Persona 5, although NieR and Cuphead did a god job too
Best Audio Design: I don`t know, might be Hellblade
Best Performance: I don`t know
Games for Impact: Hellblade, I guess, though I didn`t know Night in the Woods got so popular. And probably Life is Strange will win anyway.
Best Ongoing Game: Warframe
Best Mobile Game: I dunno, I would play Fire Emblem, my mom would play Super Mario
Best Handheld Game: I don`t know Metroid: Samus Returns probably

Best Multiplayer: There is no Warframe, wtf? Maybe it`s because Warframe wasn`t released this year. I guess Destiny 2 then or Splatoon.
Most Anticipated Game: Red Dead Redemption II or Monster Hunter
Best Independent Game: I don`t know, I guess Cuphead, although Hellblade and Pyre are good as well
Best Student Game: Dunno
Trending Gamer: Videogame journalist, which couldn`t pass tutorial and thus buffed popularity of Cuphead even more Flee, obviously
Best Esports Game: I don`t want to play those ever again know
Best Debut Indie Game: Hollow Knight >= Cuphead > Mr. Shifty > Everything else. Both Hollow Knight and Cuphead have some issues, Hollow Knight has some optimization issues and Cuphead has issues with random generated difficulty, you can clearly tell that on Expert difficulty, on others it wouldn`t make much difference.

I played Super Mario Bros., Yoshi's Cookie, Dr. Mario and Mario is Missing! on (technically)NES. I remember first 3 games as good, my mom would still play first one if she didn`t break controller month ago and I remember last one as most boring game I've played on NES in my entire life.
