Verbaltims Sword Art Online review

Sword Art Online (A-1 Productions, 2012, completed) I've been watching this show in the background for quite awhile, slowly taking each episode in, because I know that this is a "special" show. It's everyone's favorite. And now that I'm done with it, I'm once again left wondering why so many people hate this show so goddamn much. From my point of view, this show is everything that an anime fan could ever want and THEN some. But don't get me wrong, though. I'm not saying I liked Sword Art Online. Just look at my score. What I'm saying is, if you REALLY hate this show, then why do you like anime at all? Because this show is everything that anime is, always was, and always will be. If you like Dragon Ball, if you like Eva, if you like Ghost in the Shell, and ESPECIALLY if you like Gurren Lagann, I see literally no reason why you wouldn't like this show. None whatsoever. So please, someone explain that to me. If you enjoy anime, why do you hate this show? Why is this show not perfect for you? Because from what I can tell, it has everything an anime fan could ever want. Every character, every trope, every plot point. This is what you want. It was specifically made for people like you. So what the fuck is the problem? Consider me baffled. 1/10

The thing is that a lot of people actually like this show, than dislike it. It is very popular in Japan. It`s just people who hate this show are more noticable than people who like it. Why? SAO has a lot of flaws and if you defend this show, it is easy to prove you wrong, which makes confessing that you like this show pretty embarassing.

If you enjoy anime, why do you hate this show? Why is this show not perfect for you?

Let`s go over my reasons I dislike it.

-Protagonist

Protagonist`s personality is annoying as fuck. Just saying that.

Protagonist is overpowered. It`s why people like this show. People probably like putting themselves on place of protagonist and like to imagine themselves overpowered. However...

Protagonist is overpowered, but it makes no sense. SAO is described as MMO game. And while people around him is gathering in groups, helping each other, our boy Kirito goes alone, but somehow is still the most powerful character in this show. Which leads me to my second complaint...

-This show story doesn`t make any sense, at all, even in terms of itself

SAO described as MMO game. SAO is described as hyped game, where people got in due to it`s popularity. However when people got inside into it, almost nobody knows how to play it, which doesn`t makes any sence, since game was around for some time, it even has beta testers, which means there was beta testing and at least some people should know something about the game.

Antagonist of first season traps 10,000 people in game, yet in real life nobody tries to catch him and stop this.

SAO says when person dies in game, person dies in real life. However Kirito somehow survives lethal damage and even defeats antagonist.

SAOs continuation, GGO. "Thounsands of people died in SAO, but you know what? Let`s play some games!"

-Endings

Ending of first part of SAO can be described as this:
SAO (animation) is adaptation to SAO (ranobe, or novel, w/e floats your boat). This part was adaptation of ranobe chapter, which was clearly rushed out and thats why we stop at 75 floor instead of going to 100.

Ending of second part of SAO is literally rape.

And those are only one I pulled out of my head after watching it once 2 years ago. I pretty sure there are more. Oh, and also:

-Sword Art Online popularity

Why this show is so popular, while being so shit? Then again why Jake or Logan Paul so popular, while their content is shit? People gonna hate it just because it is popular while it is bad. There are shows far worse, but people don`t hate it, because it`s not popular.

It`s not about anime trope itself, it`s about how it`s used. You said yourself in review of Devilman Crybaby, that tropes there were used in way they are interesting, which is not the case in SAO. You hate Ghost in the Shell, because while you might like the concept of show, you don`t like it`s realization, I hate Sword Art Online, because while I might like or enjoy anime tropes, I dislike how it was used in Sword Art Online.

Just be aware that perfection exists only in observer mind and doesn`t exist elsewhere, which is good, because it means there is no boundary for getting constantly better except one observer created for himself. Goal is to get better, not to become perfrect.

Also lay* down, you imperfect little — lazy people usually prefer to not sit, but rather lay on bed.

It sounds boring. And boredom is top tier enemy for beings with infinite lifespan.

I don`t really hate any games, except those, which are too broken that you can`t finish them. I dislike MOBAs though, because to win you need to coop with team of people with different autism level, if you play with random people, also matches take from 30 minutes to hour each. In professional MOBA games, it usually takes one mistake to decide outcome of match, like 1 MINUTE OF INTENCE GAMEPLAY PER 30 MIN - HOUR MATCH, and I don`t really like it.

I also dislike concept of microtransactions in games you already paid for or chopping game into paid DLC, I dislike typical anime clishe characters or vague storytelling without any reason behind it, I dislike new games use names of older popular franchises only to capitalize on fans of older games buying their game.

I can`t really name any game, but thats maybe because it`s either I go with low expctations for games, or because I pick games carefully on things I might enjoy and filter games I would likely not enjoy.

P.S: Life of Black Tiger is shit.
