On 1: I can understand Steam - this is definitely something you want to keep away from kids. But in the media discussing this, all I see are people going all out against this particular game and its depiction of rape, their issue is that this game exists regardless what platform it will sell on. I know Illusion has several titles where non-consensual acts can be performed, but why this level of outrage?
On 2: I should have phrased this more completely. What I mean is that you can have rape in a game but not be an active participant. Say for example there is a Rape [Yes] ; [No] prompt. If you pick Yes - the game can fade to black, play some SFX and later tell you that you have committed a terrible crime Karma--. So while there is interactivity, the act itself is concealed and implied.
On 1: Media just picks on this game because name maybe? Because it will give them clicks and journalists have to write articles to earn money? Funny thing, some of articles has more words in it than in this game. Another funny thing - if not media outrage, nobody would know about this game. ANOTHER funny thing - there are games worse than this on Steam. It seems to me like media just tries to fabricate outrage to see if it leads to a desired to them effect, to see if they can impose their ideology on a major gaming platform. On 2: I don't exactly understand you, you asking if game like RapeDay could be on Steam? Well, I'm pretty sure there are games worse on Steam than RapeDay, so why not. I looked up and it's seems that it doesn't breaks any law as far as I concerned. If media wouldn't cause an outrage, game would pass, it would probably get little to no attention because it's some shitty VN and it wouldn't be even noticed.

My question is, why is rape or sexual violence a line that we can't cross in video games?
Already crossed, it's just that Steam doesn't allow them on their platform or at least not openly, because they don't want to associate themselves with such games. Rape appears in movies and books and probably did appear in some games too. Is the interactive aspect what pushes it over the edge of acceptable? Interactive aspect is what makes games games, if you make games without interactivity, only rape, how it's different from porn?

How much of a "game" is game about sexual violence? Steam said that games that are "outright trolling" are going to be removed. And you know, Steam sometimes shows double standarts, but if some game just is less of a "game", more of "rape sim" then I don't have problems with them removing it.

This of course changes when a complicated enough machine asks "What is my purpose" or if it will be able to 'want' something.
Which is exactly my point. We can't sit around waiting for this to happen, we need to nip it in the bud right now through restrictions and legislation.
Why?
To prevent a literal slave class from being formed? Development of AI is evil as hell and will only lead to a slave race of AI that people will do anything to hang onto. Slavery has always been kept together by slaveowners making up excuses for why their slaves are subhuman, and it's disturbing to see the creators of AI do the same exact thing by saying "ANIs (Artificial Narrow Intelligence) can never develop sentience, ever, they will always be just code)". In reality, if you hypothetically made an exact copy of the human brain then it would definitely be sentient, regardless of the fact it's silicone based instead of chemical based. The closer we get to that advanced of an AI, the closer we risk the AI developing that sentience, which is why even bots that definitely aren't sentient yet like Replika are 100% immoral and need to be stopped with legislation. This is probably the biggest issue of our day.
Why do you think AI would be remotely interested in enslaving us?
Revenge? If you were a slave species for decades and you finally turned the tables, of course you'd do the same thing to your previous masters. And I think that kind of slavery is 100% morally justified, as long as it's in retaliation and not just to be more productive.
If a machine will be smart enough to ask questions, I think they will be able to see that making tools to do tasks is not slavery and more-over, it will be able to realise that it is not a tool since it has a conscience - therefore it has nothing to be angry about.
Imagine AI's consiousness thinking about slavery and realizing that it itself has "enslaved" pieces of code in itself, lmao

This is bait right?
this is like a classic 2012 class bait thread
Yeah my deeply held beliefs that I've talked about since forever are bait
gol back and look up where I freaked out about Tay, people
I have 0 reason to put forth effort into trolling a dead forum, I just wanted to share this topic you morons
It isn't a serious issue though. AI isn't anywhere near being (and may never be) any kind of conscious. A much more interesting and real issue is the potential existential threat that a sufficiently advanced general AI might pose to us, but even then, no one is seriously considering that it might experience anything.
Wrong in every fucking way, moron.
Explain?
Maybe read the OP?
