The Flood / AMA My boss wants to talk to me tomorrow
« on: September 01, 2016, 07:20:01 AM »
I emailed one of my leaders that is in charge of the store that I was looking for a review of my skills and told him I was interested in moving up and continuing my development with the company. He emailed me back and asked for my resume and wanted to talk to me either tomorrow or next week when I work the store next. Problem is I don't know what to expect or say that I didn't already mention in the email.

What do. And AMA I guess fam.

Ha! Now that August is ending, the temps here in FL are finally going down!

It's fucking hot.

Nice try Turkey! I know you're trying to give my kids autism!

Just in case anyone's thinking this might be true, please get the flu vaccine. It saves thousands of children and elderly people each year, and herd immunity applies.

Regardless of whether or not he makes the debate stage, he'll be on the ballot in all 50 states. With the two options we're given from the major parties, a sizable amount of people wi be voting for neither. If enough people vote third party to at least get press coverage afterwards (even if he loses) it'll show the average citizen that voting third party is not a bad choice.

This is all under the assumption that the obvious winner won't suppress any news on third party voter percentage.

I'm just waiting for a certain user (they know who they are) to try and say Iwo Jima and that the Japanese really weren't all that bad.

And they are telling SJW-students not to expect "Safe places" and "Trigger warnings".

Quote
As the letter to the Class of 2020 began to circulate on discussion forums and social media, some students and alumni praised the University’s message on its commitment to free expression.

Other students criticized the letter, saying that the University disguises hate speech as “discourse.”

Lol butthurt warped social Marxists BTFO.

Real talk from an anonymous moderator from a completely different forum:

Quote
A content warning might be appropriate, but not an alternate text. If you aren't reading and discussing the same material as the rest of the class then you aren't really in the same class at all anymore. If you can't handle the material for any reason then you simply are not performing at the same caliber as your peers and should be graded accordingly.

[Second paragraph reply is in response to a previous post on Charles Murray and his book The Bell Curve.]

Murray has portrayed that way certainly, but he has evidence to back his claims and clarifies that it isn't certain how much of these measured differences stem from genetics and/or upbringing. A fact doesn't stop being a fact just because it's unpopular though. Further, one aim in bringing controversial speakers to the campus might be in fostering debate rather than expecting people to accept was is said at face value. But don't take my word for it, take Murray's.

These imaginary sit-ins the author of that article is alluding to are in fact a real symptom of the SJW disease. Today's college kids are all too willing to throw a hissy fit and/or start a social media blitz at the first sign of anything that doesn't fit their preferred world narrative. It may still be relatively rare, just a few incidents of note per year, but the more media attention these actions generate over time the more likely this behavior is to continue.

That's what I was getting at by mentioning them.

China isn't Communist. They moved away from it almost immediately after Mao kicked the bucket. They're only Communist by name to meme people.

It's time to put down that copy of The Leviathan. It was written by an authoritarian nut that thought free will was hindering humanity. Do you enjoy the cereal you eat? The shoes you wear? The shows you watch? You don't get any of that under Communism.

The Flood / Re: A friendly PSA: Don't drive over roadkill
« on: August 29, 2016, 10:51:18 AM »
It was kind of empty, There was two or three cars around me, but it was also a somewhat high speed road. We're all going at least 60. There's also no overhead lights, making things a bit more difficult. If it was any other road it would have been avoided, but like I said, that road teaches bad habits and I learned the hard way. However as I also told Jono, I've been on that same road for over ten years, there's never been foreign objects on it and it's literally all just roadkill. The chances of a large piece of wood piece in the middle like that with no tress is low enough for no one to think that would be the case.

the way yoy described it it sounds like it was an empty road

Up here we avoid hitting them at all costs, and they're usually a bit to the side of the road anyway

I've seen people go and ouch them to the side before too

Like I said, I thought it was roadkill. The idea of it being literally anything else is not feasible on that road and incredibly improbable considering there aren't any trees for at least another mile. I would chock this up to an act of God considering I've been going down that road for years and there has never been anything else other than roadkill on it.

But I agree with what you say, on other roads I usually go around all objects.

Driving over a foreign object on the road is never okay no matter the situation unless you absolutely have to.

Most gaming reddits are pure shit. It's why I gave up on r/ffxiv. I got banned for spamming reports on image posts, but those images were intentionally improperly tagged to evade people who use the "Hide all media filter" so we're still stuck seeing their shitty glamour pics.

When I started driving to work, literally everyone I saw drove over them but kept them in between their tires to make make anything more messy. It wasn't until I left FL that I saw other people do differently.

In some situations, driving around might not be feasible since there could be another car right next to you in a two lane road with one right behind you causing slowing down to be unavailable as an option as well.

people usually avoid them anyway though

The Flood / A friendly PSA: Don't drive over roadkill
« on: August 29, 2016, 10:33:50 AM »
Driving home from work last night, I saw something dark in the middle of the road. It was roughly 7:45 so nearing the end of twilight and getting dark. Anyone who's been down Osceola Parkway near Disney knows that there's two cubic fucktons of dead possums, squirrels, and other small mammals on the road, and we usually just drive over them in between our tires.

Unfortunately for me what I drove over was not a dead animal, and I didn't notice until afterword that it was a very large piece of wood, that banged my car upwards a good several inches. Enough to fling my phone out of its holder and knock the windshield wipers active. Transmission is now completely shot and the local repair shop is estimating around $3000 in repair. Luckily we have insurance, but this could all have been avoided if I simply drove around it.

I remember there's a thread on Verb learning to drive. I'd hope he see this thread and not make the same shitty mistake I made. But knowing how Verb is, he wouldn't have done something like us Floridians do anyways. However the message is all the same to everyone: In any situation, think what Ian would do...and then DON'T do it.

"I have had men watching you for a long time, and am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the bank and annul its charter I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin! Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. I have determined to rout you out, and by the Eternal, I will rout you out! If the people only understood the rank injustice of our money and banking system, there would be a revolution before morning!"

I agree with pretty much everything you said except for this. The general public may be pretty slanderous, but reviewers are nothing more than literal (and in proper definition of the word "literal") paid shills and can't seem to give anything less than a 7/10.

We're pretty unforgiving these days.

I wonder what's next for Sean Murray? The online slander will surely follow him stronger than it did Robert Bowling six years ago.
