Speak for yourself, Hamilton is riddled with historical inaccuracies and has made fucking pop culture loving scum who never gave a shit about history act like they're a fucking historian of that age.

Hamilton vs Jefferson rivalry has a far bigger impact on today's world and no one's cared about that one until Hamilton hit Broadway.

United Airlines stock is PLUMMETING. 3.7% equating to 380 million dollars, this is how you majorly fuck up a company.

TL;DW: United Airlines overbooks on a flight, decides to kick paying customers off the flight for their employees, a doctor who has to see patients in the morning refuses, and they beat the man and forcibly drag off the plane.

GG United, should've just stayed with breaking musical instruments.

Unfortunately it's Golden Corral at this point, the food was once tolerable but it's slowly been going downhill. Age of Ultron was trash because it had all of the nonsense that made the lowest common denominator movie, and revved up to 11. But it sold like hot pancakes so Disney took that as a cue as to what makes a good movie and now here we are.

It's like Godzilla 2014 vs. Shin Godzilla (2016). Shin is superior, not because it's a Japanese made movie and because it had more of actual Godzilla. It's superior because it had underlying message of disaster and a nation coming together under a seemingly unstoppable force; whereas 2014 was just mindless action and military recruitment overtones.

Those are few and far between. The MCU can't show that level of maturity. Marvel/Disney has mastered the fine art of delivering the highest quality of the lowest common denominator. They are the intellectual equivalent of a good all you can eat buffet. Is it the best food? Fuck no. But it's good enough that hundreds go back for seconds. Yup.

Just got back from seeing it, here is my review. SPOILER WARNING.

Initial thoughts: Amazing, absolutely amazing; I went with a friend who is not into anime at all but even she thought it was a really good movie (we watched the subbed version BTW). I'm torn on whether or not I liked this movie more than 5CMPS, they're both on par with each other in terms of quality. I'm going to compare this movie a lot to 5CMPS because they're both herald as Shinkai's best works, but right now I'm leaning on 5CMPS purely because of how it slowly pulled the rug out from under you at the end.

So I went in already knowing the basic plot to the movie, I had a rough idea on how everything was going to play out, I was just missing all the extra details into how it was played out. I knew Mitsuha saved everyone in the end and that they were gonna meet five years later. I didn't know about how Mitsuha met Taki three years prior and how they were able to convince the town to evacuate. Knowing how all the minute details played out helped make it a still memorable experience even with me knowing the spoilers.

So I went in thinking it was going to be good and it was even better than I expected. However this wouldn't be a good review if I didn't bring up criticisms. The beginning felt a bit jarring/convoluted. I understand Shinkai wanted people to figure out what was going on between Mitsuha and Taki on their own before revealing it on screen with both of them saying it at the same time, but initially it felt confusing with Mitsuha. The movie didn't do a good job the first time of Mitsuha's swap with Taki because it went from Taki being in her body to her being herself. Also the generic minute and thirty second anime opening felt forced, like it was only in there to appease anime fans and really felt out of place. Music was also not very memorable saved for the main theme that played in all the trailers and during the initial swap reveal between the two.

But the rest of the movie was done perfectly. No shot felt out of place and all the cast filled their roles perfectly. Not to mention there was to discontinuities between VAs playing the role of either Taki or Mitsuha when swapped or not swapped. I also wasn't expecting Shinkai to actually show something like the meteor destroying the city in the film. It was very daring to actually show it in a film that has a light atmosphere like this one (even after the reveal of Imotori's destruction) although I feel it was something that should have been left out. The destruction scene doesn't fit well with the rest of scenery porn Shinkai is known for, and man this movie is right on par with 5CMPS in terms of scenery porn.

I don't know whether to count as a negative or positive so I kept it as a neutral but it is an anime film and tropes are present. It's a bit unusual considering 5CMPS had little to no trops and that counts for both the film and the manga. Things like "EEEEEEHHHHH?!?!?!?!" and groping boobs is ever present in this film. However, considering the "EH?!" was toned down to believable scenarios and the boob groping was done to the individuals self (kind of?) it led to a good laugh; specifically when Mitsuha grabs her crotch when in Taki's body and Taki is crying when he's groping his boobs in Mitsuha's body seeing her sister alive. All in all, they weren't bad additions to the film.

In summary: This movie was fucking near-perfect and I feel I'll be torn for some time on whether or not this was better than 5CMPS. Both pulled my heart strings but I feel Your Name is a very fleshed out movie that lives up to all the praise it has been getting. there are some notable flaws but they don't stop the movie from being able to really get your emotions going.

9/10

You can have a comic book movie with some level of depth. And I'm not asking for the comic book version of a Kubrick film, but having a more serious toned non-cookie cutter comic film is preferable to the smut we've been getting. I'd rather have a movie that tried to make the audience think than one that's just mindless action and "dude jokes lmao".

It's a movie based on a comic book. You're expecting a great movie? Watch indie movies

are they going to take the redditors of the galaxy approach with all their movies now

Please stop calling him the bad guy. He did the wrong things for the right reasons and his actions were far better than any other possible outcomes for humanity, all of them involving a nuclear-winter Hell for the entire human race. Moral absolutist Rorschach was a fucking idiot and would purposefully let billions of people die to a nuclear war because "Hurr it's better than lying!"

Yep, that's me, you're probably wondering how I ended up in this situation

I can not believe they actually did this. It's so fucking cringey.

That trailer was absolutely awful and shows exactly how the movie is going to be, yet another generic super hero sitcom with some """serious""" action in between jokes.

>Generic rock and roll music
>Generic jokes in between fights
>Plot points that can be predicted easily just by the way characters glance at the screen
>Muh slow moving action scenes

CapeFlicks are pure shit.

I also am shocked to hear Shinkai himself tell people not to go see his own movie. Yeah the people comparing him to Miyazaki are being ridiculous because they're both completely different in styles, but that doesn't mean his movies aren't just as good.

I'm pretty sure the government would take smoking into consideration when making a study on alcohol's effects on the body.

Prove to me that this isn't because alcoholics also tend to be frequent smokers.

If feminine traits are something to be praised and supported, why is wearing something gendered a negative thing?
