Either way, I'm still not an atheist.
Except you are by definition. If you lack faith in God you're an atheist. Whether or not you're agnostic AS WELL is philosophically disconnected.

a stupid thing to argue about.
That's true for this entire thread, which is why it hasn't been moved to Serious.
I'm curious though as to why you think my arguments were poor?
The primary issue for me is a psychological one. Subjective meanings have the capacity to motivate and emote their holders, and since there is no sort of continued experience it doesn't matter that they might be forgotten. They still motivate the agent in such a span of time that it, as far as it matters, makes it permanent.

Also, truth isn't predicated on some metaphysical conception of meaning. You could be correct in saying that subjective meaning is meaningless a priori, but that doesn't make the existence of a God any more likely.

If you didn't know who the Atheists of the forum were, you do now.
Excuse you.
I'm agnostic.
>implying there's a difference
Let's not >_>
What? The two are pretty much divorced.

You can't be an agnostic and not an atheist if you're also not a theist, because their exists a philosophical partition.

I'm just pointing out the confusion, not throwing caution and decency to the wind.
An atheist outright denies the existence of a god where as an agnostic acknowledges the possibility of there being one. How are they the same?
Your definition of an atheist is mostly wrong. While you get some strong atheists on the fringe who assert that, most (and all serious) atheists simply don't affirm a belief in god.

Lol, Jim was making some of the worst arguments in favour of nihilism that I've ever seen.
You suck dick at reading comprehension, then, because I'm not in favor of nihilism.
From the first few pages I could be bothered to read of the exchange, you were essentially arguing that if God doesn't exist then there is no objective meaning and subjective meaning cannot be created by dint of being meaningless a priori.

Now, while you may not yourself be nihilistic, that's one of the most implicitly nihilistic things I've read in a while.

That's a good thing Mr. Meta. At least it's not an attitude change based off something terribly bad. You're just, uppity right now is all. That's not so bad. Youd didn't murder your neighbors either so that's good too.

I fucking scare myself some days.
Please.

Spoiler
Mr. Meta is my father.

Fuck your father. I don't know him. I know you. You're Mr. Meta.
Well fuck you too.

Son, I want you to come into the kitchen. I want to discuss how you spend too much time on the Serious board.
Shut the fuck up dad

Not anymore, but it's still out there.
Is it still as unabashedly statist and authoritarian?

Some of you may have noticed a slight bit of. . . Turbulence recently >.> and I don't want to put a downer on that since a few of you actually approve of it, but I imagine some of you (namely sand) want a bit of context. If you don't give a fuck then kindly go and fuck your own anus.

But I've been quite up and down myself, lately, for whatever reason. Not necessarily so much in myself but in response to my environment and the people around me; I wouldn't be surprised if that's manifested itself in some way here.

I don't know why I feel the need to act like such a fucking tard at the minute, but it's probably got something to do with being more impulsive and just finishing college for the Christmas holidays - among a few other things. But yeah, I don't know really. Just thought a few of you might be wondering.

EDIT - If I had to pin down some variables I'd say increased boredom, increased irritability and decreased satisfaction with my friendship group.

As much as I wish you well in sorting this situation out, please try to remember that your mother is mentally ill.

Saying that, though, the most important thing is securing your brother's safety whatever the cost. Godspeed.

2. He did what had to be done
Why did it have to be done?
You only need to fast forward to 2003 in order to see that that's a question without an answer.

I support few foreign interventions,  but one of the few which I do was Hussein Iraq.  Which pretty much would never have been necessary had Reagan not given him those funking abominable weapons.

Anybody who says otherwise is simply making excuses.

9686
Of course the liberal weenies would say Reagan, I guess they've stepped up their indoctrination.

"Who's the worst?"

"REAGAN WITHOUT A DOUBT"

"Uh, why?"

"BECAUSE REAGAN WAS REAGAN AND THAT'S BAD"
Reagan wasn't really that great.

Serious / What do you think of these policies?
« on: December 22, 2014, 04:27:31 PM »
We will increase personal allowance to the level of full-time minimum wage earnings

We will abolish inheritance tax

We will set up a Treasury Commission to design a turnover tax to ensure big businesses pay a minimum floor rate of tax as a proportion of their UK turnover.

We will cut the foreign aid budget by £9bn pa, prioritising disaster relief and schemes which provide water and inoculation against preventable diseases.

Subject to academic performance we will remove tuition fees for students taking approved degrees in science, medicine, technology, engineering, maths on the condition that they live, work and pay tax in the UK for five years after the completion of their degrees.

We will guarantee those who have served in the Armed Forces for a minimum of 12 years a job in the police force, prison service or border force

Veterans are to receive a Veterans’ Service Card to ensure they are fast tracked for mental health care and services, if needed

Migrants will only be eligible for benefits (in work or out of work)  when they have been paying tax and NI for five years and will only be eligible for permanent residence after ten years

There are many more but I just want an initial feel.
