I really don't care. Not just because I don't give a shit about the show, but because I don't care about people's sexuality and because it seems like most people here who watch the show believe it was being hinted at earlier than just this instance.

Even so, shoehorning shit it wouldn't really bother me - like when I found out Dumbledore was meant to be gay. Who gives a fuck? It didn't impact the quality of the franchise.

Guys, don't forget more than just Jews were killed in the holocaust...
The 6 million figure, however, refers exclusively to Jews.

It isn't my fault that being drunk turns you into a colossal prick, so why should I have to bear the consequences of that simply because you chose to temporary disable your inhibitions?

People, man. Fucking hell.

The Flood / 19-year-old British man arrested over "offensive tweet"
« on: December 25, 2014, 03:30:23 PM »
What the fuck?
Quote
Police have arrested a 19-year-old man over an "offensive" tweet about the Glasgow bin lorry crash that has killed six people.

The tweet, which has since been deleted along with the account that posted it, joked about the tragedy, in which the driver lost control of the vehicle and drove on the pavement, hitting Christmas shoppers "like pinballs".

The tweet said: "So a bin lorry has apparently driven in 100 people in Glasgow eh, probably the most trash it's picked up in one day".

The arrested man, believed to be Ross Loraine, from Sunderland, handed himself in to Northumbria Police.

The force said he was arrested on suspicion of making a malicious communication and had been bailed while they investigated.

Speaking before the arrest was announced, Steve Kuncewisz, a solicitor specialising in media law, said the tweet could constitute an offence under The Communications Act.

He added some of the responses to the tweet - including insults and threats - could also be an offence under the same act.

He said: "The wisdom of the crowd is not always present in situations like this. And the wisdom of the this one guy seems to have deserted him. But whether or this would justify an arrest of prosecution, I'm not so sure."

People mourning the tragedy tweeted their anger at this and other "sick jokes" they said others were making on social media.

Speaking earlier today, Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said that Glasgow was waking with a "broken heart" but praised the city's resilience.

She added: "This city will pull together to support those who have been affected, not just in the days ahead but in the weeks and months to come."

The worst part about this is that the tweet was actually funny.

I think if we ever implemented the system verb, meta, and sandtrap are speaking of (stricter moderation) I'd probably end up leaving.

Part of this places appeal is its lax atmosphere.
We're talking about actual, standardised and proper punishments for transgressions.

Not turning the atmosphere into one strictly controlled by jackbooted, goosestepping mods.

« on: December 24, 2014, 02:58:26 PM »
I think this should be moved to Sep7agon.

But, Sand, how would you feel about the idea of monitors being able to dole out "ultra-lite" bans of anywhere from 30 minutes to like two hours, in order to stop an immediate shit-flinging or undesirable behaviour, which isn't exceptionally serious?

9531
The Flood / Re: Discuss the Mods/Site Staff
« on: December 24, 2014, 02:55:45 PM »
But that would just be a pretty pointless extra work. I'm not opposed to giving monitors more abilities and a better defined role, but it seems like a hassle and a delay to communicate what I do to the monitors so that they can further deliver the message to the members. Why not just let me write a quick comment that gives the person reporting a post immediate feedback.
That's my concern too.

I'm just concerned about the role of the monitors, to be honest. Whether or not they or the mods deliver the messages is relatively unimportant, but as long as we have the monitors lying around they may as well be able to do things.

We could, for instance, allow them to censor posts or dole out "ultra-lite" bans consisting of about 30 minutes up to a couple of hours if a mod isn't around to deal with the situation properly, or some shit flinging needs to be stopped.

Regarding communication between the mods and members, I had a recent suggestion that basically included a response window with each report. Every mod dealing with a report would then provide a quick and anonymous response on what they did and why. Does anyone feel like this would be a good idea?
Doesn't feel personal enough.

I think - as long as we have the monitors - they should serve the role as communicators. You could modify such a system, and make it so moderators choose the response to be made and then the monitors "pick up" the various responses and personally deliver them to whichever user on behalf of the moderator.

Problem is, Monitor's don't have access to the report system to see what is reported - nor can they see the actions being done by Moderators. It became a process to get information from a Ninja who isn't on Skype (Where we do most of our discussing as it's quicker), for the Monitor to then send a PM.
Would it not be possible to create an auxiliary system alongside the report list, a sort of "response list" which doesn't necessarily need direct 1-to-1 communications between monitors and moderators?

At least 13 of the threads currently on the front page of Serious would be moved under our model.
Could you name a few? I'm honestly seeing nothing but political discussion. I guess my definition is just inherently broader.
"Russian fishermen catch squeaking alien and eat it"
What qualities constitute "good" music?
Any writing you're working on?
Every fast food restaurant should be following this model
Sony to possibly release The Interview on Crackle, for free
North Korea's internet is down entirely

What's the difference between belief and a lack of belief?
All right, all right. Those ones don't fit under what I'd consider politics/religion. Everything else you mentioned, I think could be chalked up pretty easily. And as for that last one, I mean, you made it, so I'm inclined not to count it.
The ones I listed which didn't have explicitly political titles shouldn't be in Serious simply through their lack of actual, serious content. Just look at Comms' Assadists thread - it's just a bunch of Syrian Army propaganda.

It may be political in character, but it doesn't have the necessary content to facilitate discussion.

"Moving" everything but the religious/political discussions to Shitpost Central will not change anything. Serious is already very slow on activity as it is, and everything that's not a religious/political discussion tends to get moved already. I'm not sure what you guys are talking about.

So if you're suggesting moving everything but the religious and political discussions into the flood, I'm all for it. It would certainly raise the quality of the threads here, but I worry about how popular Serious would become when it only contains those two subjects...
That's my concern too.

Would it be possible to display both feeds on a single webpage?

The Flood / Re: Discuss the Mods/Site Staff

That, really, should be the remit of Serious: politics and religion. The fact that we don't have a clearly defined boundary between the two fora leads to the Flood being sapped of things which could promote decent discussion, because somebody thought it fight the ambiguous criteria for Serious.
Right. Because a thread like that, and threads like many others that I've thought of, wouldn't belong in Serious under the current remit, but you'd have to be snorting coke from your own asshole to think the Flood is any safe place for it to be. So the only other option is to not post the thread at all.

Which really kinda sucks, and it's not... "fair", at the risk of sounding a little jejune.
Which is exactly the problem.

Aspects of the moderation and the ambiguous nature of the Serious board has led to the Flood becoming even more of a cesspool. While this thread, however, is proof that people can discuss things if it interests them in the Flood - it's quite clearly not enough.

If I had to choose a direction for the moderation to go, it'd be stricter. At least initially, while the relationship between the Flood and Serious is sorted out.

The site staff will (likely) be holding a poll to gauge which style of moderation the website would like to see -Strict, Lax, or a Hybrid (More on the three options will be in the poll thread). This will help determine new moderation systems and punishment outlines.

I'll link to the poll once it's been finished and posted.
Now this.

I like this.

This is good.

More of this.

Meta, how open are you to the idea of allowing more threads in Serious? Sometimes I find your judgment questionable (like... not allowing Mad Max's thread about his significant other's passing in there).
Well, I don't own Serious in any real capacity. I only opposed its being there because it's not controversial, political, to do with religion or anything like that.
