At least you don't have to purchase a licence in order to watch T.V.
The revenues of said licence going to government-controlled media, too.

this is like asking how much god weighs
About the same weight as a pin when the maximum number of angels are dancing on its tip.

Well, no.
First and foremost because I'm not sure how something transcendent could have any sort of mass. Secondly because souls don't exist. And thirdly because that physician's "study" was bullshit.

I try to keep myself informed on as many issues as possible (which is part of the reason I like philosophy, politics and economics), but I certainly hope nobody would even think to consider me an even vague authority on nuclear fusion or quantum mechanics at any point in my life.
Goes right the fuck over my head.

Sort of prehistory, but the fact there have been other species of humans.
Old but gold. And relevant.

So, Michael Shermer, Lawrence Krauss, Christopher Hitchens, Mark Carney or Helmut Kohl?
bretty gud hitchens was a marxist though
He repented in the end. I can look past his socialism; it's worth it to appreciate his witty and erudite character.

Militant atheism isn't a thing. We need a proper name for people who have that extra moral matrix of "I should kill religious people for being religious", but I don't think anti-theism would cut it.
Nonetheless, we still need to rule out whether the guy is seriously mentally ill (like, Schizophrenia or Autism) and determine whether his motives in this specific case were anti-religious. A tragedy, of course, nonetheless.

It's tied between both Charlie Hebdo and the explosion of the Challenger Space Shuttle.
I don't know why, but they elicit strong emotional responses from me.

You're taking those out of context or misquoting on purpose, Allah looks down on you. Muhammad (pbuh), was being attacked by non-believers, so self defense was justified. You can only read the Qu'ran in Arabic to truly understand it's magnificence. It truly brings us muslims to tears. Everything you say is mistranslation. Allah Akbar.
Decapitating and maiming dead enemies seems a tad much for self defense.
You can talk. Yours kicked all the usurers out of a temple. Practically Karl fucking Marx.

The key is to have a streamlined bureaucracy with a minimal government.
I, for one, am grateful for the overbearing and largely inefficient bureaucracies of the U.S. and the U.K.
I'd hate to see what it'd be like with good bureaucracies and a degree of political will.

We ought to show mercy to one another, but be ruthless towards Muslims. How perverse are the Muslims! Strike off the heads of Muslims, as well as their fingertips. Fight those Muslims who are near you. Does that sound like hate speech to you? I should fucking hope so: Spoiler Quran (8:55) - Surely the vilest of animals in Allah's sight are those who disbelieve
Quran (48:29) - Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those with him are hard (ruthless) against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves
Quran (9:30) - And the Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah, and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah... Allah (Himself) fights against them. How perverse are they!
Quran (8:12) - I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them
Quran (9:123) - O you who believe! Fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness Muslims believe the Qur'an to be the literal word of God, given by the angel Gabriel to--the perhaps epileptic--Mohammad while he sat in a cave. Ignoring the moral and political transgressions committed by the fundamentalists of this religion, to believe it in the first place ought to be some sort of crime against epistemology.

Just watch the Muslim communities across the globe swarm to this tragic act of senseless violence, and politicise it.
If, however, the attack was motivated by Islamaphobia then I wholeheartedly condemn the attacker along with the values he held.

So, it's pretty easy to determine that this paper is nothing special.
It doesn't even try to make comment on the Big Bang--because the Big Bang pretty much irrefutably happened. Time and space both came into existence 13.8bya as far as anybody knows.
What this paper is saying is that the universe didn't exist as a singularity; it has just always existed in a state of quantum potential.
7557
« on: February 11, 2015, 02:06:40 AM »
So I actually understand very little of the paper itself, but it seems like they're taking the big bang model and putting the singularity at the asymptote of time --> - ∞...meaning, in their model, as we approach the "beginning" of the universe the universe gets smaller and smaller, but never actually reaches singularity.
tl;dr: They're proposing that instead of an infinite cycle of crunches and bangs, it's actually just an infinitely long bang. Supposedly their model eliminates the the problem of dark energy and mass, though it replaces them with another hypothetical material.
From your perspective, exactly what is the value of this research? Is it decent, groundbreaking or did some laymen in the media pick it up and start clucking like a chicken.
