You've started the presupposition that all policy makers are good ones
Not really, I've already identified they're ridiculously stupid. I just wonder how they can be so fucking stupid.
Human stupidity knows no bounds.

Bernie Sanders is obvious just a shill posing as a liberal so that the government can increase its control over libertarians. Same goes for Ron Paul and friends.

It's a beneficial economic phenomenon to anyone who has a penchant for greed.
I'm talking about policy makers; "good idea" is supposed to refer to the net benefit to society as a whole, not if some CEO can line his pockets on the basis of other people's misery.

There's zero evidence to suggest that private prisons are any better than state or federal prisons
There's some evidence in the UK that private prisons are indeed better, but other evidence I've seen kind of suggests that "study" is bullshit.

The incentives are all wrong in this instance; it makes no sense. Why the fuck would anybody think profiting off people's imprisonment is a beneficial economic phenomenon? It's like profiting off the ownership of individuals, and we all know how that turned out.

In what ways is Bernie Sander's socialism related to socialism?
It really isn't.

Being sensitive != being a pussy.

Most people are just pussies.

but that's why you don't tell the shrinks everything e.e
Advice for the ages.

OT: I guess all of my family are a little 'weird'. My uncle is 40-odd, bipolar and still lives with my grandparents. My grandma is xenophobic, doesn't believe in climate change, thinks being gay is a choice. . . Y'know, typical Middle English Silent Generation stuff. Although, oddly enough for somebody her age, she's an atheist. My aunt is super-Christian though.

My (step-)dad is pretty xenophobic/racist. He's your typical British bulldog working class bloke, really. Likes to drink a fair bit, and thinks aliens built the pyramids. My mother probably has stress/anger issues, and generally can't accept when she's wrong. My parents are pretty fucking dysfunctional; they argue a lot.

And then of course there's me. I don't really feel like I 'fit in' with my family; I don't feel any affection towards any of them, except my grandma. And there's the whole thing with seeing a couple of psychs for antisocial tendencies, but that's probably genetic from my biological father's side.

« on: September 04, 2015, 06:07:44 AM »
Progressives have always been something of a dangerous element. Right the way back to the Montagnards there has been problems with pursuing 'progress' so vigorously.

Hell, if you define progress by movement away from the status quo, a lot of conservatives like Newt Gingrich are really just progressives with a different ideological twang.

Identity politics is hands down the worst conclave of modern progressivism though.

You know he has to try and sell his platform to yanks right?

The race of humanoids that shit themselves with fury and fear at the mere mention of socialism. Baby steps, baby steps.

I was watching a couple of videos on Youtube of Bernie Sanders, and I noticed he often likes to bring up Sweden as Jesus Christ in the form of a country. Certainly his followers--and I presume Sanders himself--want to more closely emulate Sweden.

But I'm yet to see them advocate for free trade and investment, liberal immigration policies, a $0/hr national minimum wage law, widespread use of school vouchers, privatisation, low corporation tax and a 0pc inheritance tax. So is he lying, or just dumb?

to a foreign country for the third year

Please tell me it's America. I will, no shit, come see you if you come here for college.
Yes it's the United States of Freedom.

Fortunately, I'll turn 21 a couple of months after I arrive, so I won't have to put up with your fascistic alcohol laws.

Where are you going?
Not a clue yet. I was thinking maybe California, but it's full of fucking LIBERALS.

Speaking of fucking, with that accent you're going to get all sorts of laid.
I'd rather just get sexually laid, but I suppose I can try out these other sorts.

Will they fuck me if I tell them I've met the Queen?

Somewhere with no wifi?
Apparently so. I am taking my phone though, so we'll see.

Neat. Have fun, if that's the intention.
Yeah, it's totally not a conciliatory holiday for my parents before I move three hours away for the next next two years, to a foreign country for the third year and then back to being three hours away for the fourth year.

Totally about fun.
