even more so is that they exist as a by-product of American policies
It's a bit late to be playing the blame game. These are essentially the same people who, as Barbary State pirates, told Jefferson they could take American sailors as slaves because the Qur'an allows them to. The same people who say they'll never forgive the West for not allowing Indonesia to commit genocide in East Timor.

The idea that they wouldn't be much a problem had we just been nicer to them, seems, to me, banal and self-destructive.

Tell me, what's wrong with police having body armor and a rifle? There's literally nothing wrong with such. I know police officers and have family in law enforcement. They're normal people who are wanting to serve their community and protect the people from danger. Part of that is giving them the equipment to do so effectively
There's so much wrong with it. The over-use of SWAT in recent years should give anybody pause enough to reconsider. And given the social estrangement happening between regular people and the police, it shouldn't be exacerbated by turning them into a paramilitary group and allowing them to implement ad-hoc martial law. They don't need a rifle or body armour.

I just support businesses being taxed. And I support a reduction on corporate income taxes to a percentage close to the European average, as the American average is one of the highest in the world
That's fair enough but the brunt of my point lay in the protectionism.

Are people seriously hating on FDR? What the fuck is this shit.
New Deal was largely unnecessary.

I'm no expect on the Depression, but the general consensus is that the government royally, royally bollocksed it.
The only thing the New Deal managed to get done was increase the national debt. It was WWII that ended it
That's not true. Wars can't create prosperity because, by definition, they only destroy. The economy only settled back properly around 1947, when it was freed up following the war.

Well. you're in no position to call him a fascist when you support the militarisation of the police.

You're also in position to claim to be right-wing economically, when you support high businesses taxes and protectionist measures.

>you, he turns to me,

Spoiler
No, he actually kicked me off the cluster and told me I didn't have the right attitude. Fucking puritans.

Aren't you in university?
No. I'm in college.
there's a difference?
Colleges are the physical campuses of a university.

The educational state of college is an intermediary stage between high school and university.

One is a location, the other is a process.

Muh special snowflake indecision centrist stance :^)
It's not even that. Apatheism is literally just lazy atheism.
No stance = stance

Flawless logic.
Are you an idiot?

That's what atheism is, the lack of a stance. It's a negative belief. Anybody who doesn't actively believe in the existence of a deity is an atheist, no matter how they want to phrase it.

I'm almost certain the Abrahamic God doesn't exist.

I'm absolutely certain there's no reason to believe in any other sort of god, either.

I'm again almost certain that if a god did exist, he wouldn't be worthy of worship.

The Great Depression, and World War II would like a word with you.
Again, all of that fiscal stimulus did fuck all for the Depression.

Fiscal policies are terrible at stabilising/reviving aggregate demand.

FDR was pretty good.
I almost made my worst a four way tie because of him. He is terrible in the fact that he increased the size of the government way too much. Not to mention he made one of the most broken welfare systems in the world.
Just forget about the fact that he ended the Depression, created tens of thousands of jobs, and led us through the deadliest war in European history, right?
lol

He prolonged the Depression with his shit policies.

Yes, most cultures and groups have their own beliefs on deities and/or afterlife, but I'm talking specifically about the Christian God.
If we're talking specifically about the Abrahamic God, then yes I agree.

If we're assuming the Bible was never written, a very similar God would've likely developed in its stead. If the Bible were erased from history now, no other similar God would likely be invented.

People should not take the Bible literally for a multitude of reasons.
But then wouldn't people stop believing in God?
Yeah, no

You don't need to conform your beliefs by reading a book. All you need to do to be Christian is to accept God and Jesus Christ as your savior, along with being a decent person and not purposely do bad things. I don't read the Bible, I don't go to church, and I don't pray as much but I know I'm still a Christian. All that stuff is just extra people think they need to do
People wouldn't think God existed if the Bible didn't say so.
I have to disagree with you there.

True.

Religious people tend to make "better" citizens.

Just replace religion with culture. There you go.
