I don't think there is a canon ending. I always go Independent. It probably won't be mentioned in detail in future games.

Probably gonna preorder. Looks pretty great. I hated fallout 3 at first but went back to it and ended up loving it. Hoping to beat New Vegas in time for 4.
I've got a level 46 NV character who I still need to finish before it releases. I've completed all the side quests and DLC's though so it may be a bit difficult.
