This guy on YouTube substantiated claims about Fallout 3's shortcomings, therefore I will think more about the quality of Fallout 3.
The creator has a terrible way of presenting his ideas, being both superfluous and vitriolic. It's hard actually taking him seriously until he starts really explaining his ideas. However, he substantiates his arguments and gives counter examples in earlier titles. I think he's actually pretty convincing, if you can sit through his snark.
I've watched the video. I still love Fallout 3.
You don't have to dislike Fallout 3 after watching the video. I still enjoyed my experience playing it, after all. The video presented me with interesting things to consider about games so I'm thinking about them, and I'm aiming to get my hands on earlier fallout titles so I can see for myself where I agree and disagree with him.
He does make some good points throughout the video, I just dislike his assholey matter-of-fact way of putting it across. Also, you should absolutely get the earlier games. They're great. They just take a while to adjust to.
