I'd rather have no microtransactions at all than microtransactions "done relatively right".

REQ packs fucking suck.

They have no place in non-F2P gaming.

I liked the mission that involved nothing but talking.
The first levelof Halo 2 or one of those two talking levels in Halo 5 which are basically pointless?
There were actually 3, but two were on the same map.

Archivers love them because...muh lore?

I unleashed meme magic on the earth a year ago without hesitation, I can handle something as inconsequential as a meme crash.

The map is nice and all but the gunplay just makes the missions a chore.

the flu vaccine is a joke.

Just in case anyone's thinking this might be true, please get the flu vaccine. It saves thousands of children and elderly people each year, and herd immunity applies.
Except that's a fucking lie, and 100% government propaganda.
lol

This DLC kind of feels like Todd throwing a shitfit over people's complaints.

"Oh, you wanted to be bad? Okay, you can be bad, and because you wanted to be bad so much, you can't be good!"
"You didn't like the settlement system? Okay then, now you can USE the settlement system to DESTROY the settlement system. Just what you wanted!"

It's just more Battlefield from the few games I've played, so BF fans will probably be pleased.

Fuck Fallen Empires

There I am, happily preparing to kick off the organic genocide and replace the universe with synthetics and then this splitjaw coonrat decides to swan over and kick my shit in with tachyon lances because I built some bots.

I had to reload a save about an hour previous to have enough time to build up a counter fleet and start slaughtering them before they hit me.

Great game though
thankfully they've acknowledged stuff like that and are improving it in the october update. the new fallen empire stuff sounds pretty cool.

I found Civ 5 pretty monotonous and repetitive, but I like other, more action-oriented strategy games; how long do Stellaris games last and is it fairly fast-paced?
It depends on the size of the galaxy and the number of empires you set in the initial game settings. Of course, a galaxy on Huge with 39 AI empires will last ages, but a recent game I did on a Tiny galaxy with 5 AI empires was relatively quick, taking a few hours to reach the endgame stages. There are different speed settings you can use, so you can speed things up if you feel they're too slow.

but the content updates are improving a lot of it
That's to be expected from such a large game, tbf. I came to EUIV pretty late, and updates are still being churned out. I've watched part of a few LPs, and the one thing I do hope they update is ship skins. They aren't really that many, by the looks of it.
There are currently 7 aesthetic types for ships (1 being paid DLC), one for each of the different classes of species. It isn't much, especially in games where you have 40 empires. There is the ship designer which lets you change the different sections of the ships as well as their weapons and utilities, but they don't make a particularly noticeable difference to the aesthetic.

Is it worth getting?

I've got like 40 hours on EUIV, which I thought was pretty good. Does Stellaris actually stack up?
I've played a solid 200 hours of it and it's probably the game I've enjoyed most this year.

I don't really have much to compare it to as the only other 4X game I've played is Civ V (although Stellaris is real-time as opposed to turn-based). Stellaris is pretty easy to get into but probably a lot less complex than other grand strategy games. I'd imagine EUIV is a lot more in-depth. So I guess it depends on how complex you like your strategy games.

Parts of the game are somewhat shallow but the content updates are improving a lot of it, especially the mid-game.

Gaming / Stellaris Discussion
« on: August 29, 2016, 05:21:41 AM »
I've realised we don't actually have a proper Stellaris discussion thread, and there are a number of people who play the game, so I thought I'd make a thread.

The upcoming October update is sounding pretty good.
Exploration Changes
Fleet Combat Overhaul
Diplomacy and Galaxy Setup
Fallen Empires and Upcoming DLC
Space Creatures

It'd be pretty cool to get a Sep7agon Stellaris game night going at some point, too.
