I finished it yesterday. That cliffhanger ending though.

Now I gotta wait until next year for season 3, which if they really are following the books to a tea, it will be the last season.

Nathan Fillion as Jacques Snicket. I have to say, I am glad they got him instead of some generic nobody (That's right I'm talking about you Mr Fucking Poe)

Mr Poe is such a huge condescending idiot in the Netflix series. He was naive in the books from what I remember and in the movie as well, but his character in this series..... complete fucking moron.

I actually find Count Olaf to be more likeable than Mr. Poe, and I hated Count Olaf in the books. I hate him in the series too but a lot less because Poe's character is just too fucking cringy to even feel sorry for.

I do agree that the pacing is rushed. That's something I liked about the movie. The pacing was right in the movie, while everything else in the movie was just wrong.
Nathan Fillion was a surprising choice but he turned out perfectly. It's nice for him to get a role that isn't quippy meme man like Halo 5 Buck or Cayde-6 from Destiny.

As for Poe, I actually really like his portrayal. He's a bit shoehorned in later episodes but he brilliantly encompasses the complete incompetence and ignorance of most of the adults in the series. That said, there's always been that theory about him just putting on an act as a secret member of VFD, which the show could very well follow through with if they decide to change it up.

I think Ersatz Elevator suffered most from the fast pacing. There was no time to develop Jerome's relationship with the Baudelaires more, but enough for another musical number from Olaf.

So, this dropped a few days ago and I just finished it. Really good stuff. Casting for Esme and Carmelita was spot-on in particular.

My only real issue was the pacing was a bit too fast at times, there wasn't much room for some more quiet moments.

Anyone else watch it?

Promordium was so weird. I can remember certain parts of it but not how they fit together. It was such a hard book to get through with how boring it was.
did that thing where they brought guilty spark back & he took over a ship to find the librarian ever actually go anywhere

or did they just never mention it again
Probably ignored because it implied the Didact would still be the antagonist in Halo 5.

The Flood / Re: This is why I play Harry Potter roleplay on Gmod
« on: March 29, 2018, 05:52:20 PM »

I have no idea why anyone would want to roleplay inside the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though

"No!"

The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

dr halsey is a villain but not for the reasons 343i give

She really isn't though. She was genuinely trying to stop a developing nulear war, and she know ONI-chan would have done far worse without her involvement. In fact they did anyway, and yet nobody bothers to call out Kurt or even Ackerson who was legitimately the most evil person in Halo for intentionally sending literally hundreds of 12 year olds to their deaths, whereas Halsey did her absolute best for the S2s for as long as she could.
She worked to prop up and enable a fascist, imperialist regime using child soldiers.
