What does Verb sound like? He may make a good little gaming channel if he ever got some stuff together. He's got the thought behind his games, he can type it out well, I wonder if he can talk it.

Your voice would easily be pleasing to listen to for an impressions video, or just talking about how you feel about a game review as you have capture footage.

Lots of stuff happened last session, so let's see if I can regather it all.

I think we left off after I tried fighting the black knight, and failed. Even though I said I was going to move on and try to fight him later, I still felt largely unsatisfied. He ran a train over me almost three or four times in a row; sometimes, I had trouble even landing a single strike, because his blade has such a long reach. After letting my salt get the best of me carefully weighing my options, I decided that I would fight the black knight once again, instead of heading back up to Taurus. I was determined to beat this fucker.

Challenger mentioned to me earlier that there's a way to beat him without actually fighting him--at first, I wasn't sure what he meant. Perhaps he meant that I could lay down some kind of trap, or something. He has mentioned that he uses Claymores in this game. I'd have to locate one, though, and ultimately, I thought it would be more satisfying if I faced him man-to-man anyway. No gimmicks.

After recovering my souls from the last spot where he killed me (which was a safe distance away from him--you see, whenever I face a tough enemy, I make sure to back myself up to a place where I can recover my stuff easily), I realized that I had 2400~ souls. Hey, that's kind of a lot. I figured, while I'm still at the Burg, I may as well do everything there is to do--so I went back to the merchant, and purchased that resident's key he was holding on to. I'm not above breaking into houses to find some cool shit--at least, not in this game.

On the way back to adversary, I went back to the bonfire to regroup, as well as level up a couple more times. It'll be awhile before I can hold my Zweihander one-handed, so I chose to invest only in the stats that would allow me to wield my Winged Spear one-handed. I was curious to know how strong it would be, since it's practically tailor-made for the dexterous Wanderer class.

After testing it out, I instantly fell in love with it. The range, the damage--it's amazing. Naturally, since it's a spear, you can poke at foes from afar, blocking with your shield all the while. Once you see an opening, it's easy to just back up a little, and stab them while they're vulnerable--there's nothing they can do. Its strong attack is particularly devastating, but I try not to use it too often, because it leaves me open for a long time.

Still, I've never had an easier time tearing through the Undead Burg until I equipped this thing. And I thought to myself, you know what? I could totally take on the black knight with this thing.

So I did. Once I found him, I tossed a throwing knife at the back of his head, lured him all the way to a more open location, and the battle commenced. Winged Spear in hand, I easily disrupted all of his attacks with my shield, and every time he swung and missed, I countered simply by stabbing him once. His parry -> stab combination that he did all the time was easy to punish--but he still had a lot of health. Even still, with my well-timed rolls and quick, safe punishes, I managed to run him through without even taking a single hit.

I was very happy--even though the reward wasn't really all that special (some souls, and a ring that raises your defense when your health is low... meh), I didn't really care. I was just happy simply off the virtue that I beat him. Fair and square. Without any tricks. I mean, sure--the Winged Spear is a little bit cheap, but I'm sure it won't always be this useful, right? I'm sure there'll be stronger black knights to deal with later on. But it was the most efficient solution right now, and I don't regret using it.

Just after my victory, I remembered that I still have to use my resident's key. Fortunately, I didn't have to look too hard: the door to unlock was right there, right at the spot where the knight and I squared off. I smashed up the house's contents, as I was advised earlier, and found nothing. You know, at this point, I actually haven't found a single thing by smashing things up yet. Am I just wasting durability? Is doing this even worth it?

The house did have a backdoor, though. Going through it led to a little strip of a backyard, which held the presence of a treasure chest, and served as a little shortcut to the path of the Taurus Demon's tower. I opened the chest, and it gave me some Gold Pine Resin--an item that allows me to temporarily electrify one of my weapon, giving it lightning effects (and presumably increasing it's damage, or something). Neat.

Level 8, Winged Spear, black knight dead, Burg looted. All that's left to do now is face off against the Taurus Demon.

As I climbed up the tower, I instinctively smashed the barrels in hopes that I'd find something--when out pops a shiny glowbug. I don't know what the fuck it's called, but it was a big shiny bug that scampered away, as soon as I destroyed his little barrel home. It caught me off-guard--I was just wondering if I'd ever find anything by destroying stuff. I chased him around for awhile, and after killing it, he gave me his Titanite. I can't remember what the menu said it does--something to do with weapon reinforcement, or something. Eh, I dunno.

After that, I was ready--no more bullshitting around. It's time to face Taurus again.

I took a swig of Estus (just kidding, I had full health--I just wanted to say that), electrified my spear with some of that resin (which made it look cool as fuck, by the way), crossed that white veil, and walked across the Taurus Demon's bridge, where I knew he would spawn.

Unfortunately, my Winged Spear wasn't very effective against him. The first electrified blow did good damage, but after the lightning effects wore off, it wasn't really doing much at all. Even then, it kept going between the gap in his legs, never actually hitting anything--and not doing enough damage when I needed it to. I swapped out for my Morning Sun instead, and fared a little bit better, but I still couldn't beat him. I died with about 1400 souls on hand.

At this point, I had to think. What went wrong, what went right.

Well, I figured that every boss in the game is probably going to have at least one gimmicky way to fight them, right? The Asylum Demon lost over half his health just by having a scimitar plunged through his skull, and from then on, he was easy. So, it follows that Taurus would have a weakness, too.

That lightning resin I powered up my spear with did some good damage, but not great damage. The effect was only temporary, and I only had two more helpings of the stuff, so that won't work. What else do I have that does elemental damage?...

Firebombs. That's gonna be his weakness. I checked to see how many I have--just six. I'm probably gonna need more than that, but to buy more, I'm gonna need my souls back. So, I headed all the way back to Taurus's bridge again (which wasn't a hassle at all, thanks to my spear and developing understanding of the combat system), recovered my souls, and used one of my Homeward Bones to teleport back to the bonfire. Ingenious. Now I have about 2400 souls to prepare myself with--that's more than enough to splurge at the merchant's place, and maybe level up a couple more times.

So, I bought a bunch of firebombs and throwing knives, and headed back once again--hopefully for the last time.

As I expected, Firebombs did the trick. It's a pretty cheesy way to win, but honestly, I don't care. My rolling was on-point, and again, all I'm doing is using the game's tools and conventions that it gives me to achieve victory. It's not like I'm cheating--I'm playing the game how it's meant to be played. So I don't wanna hear any bitching about how I fought this thing.

So, yeah, Taurus is out of the way. WOO--that only took a couple tries.

I crossed the second half of the bridge, and I was expecting to see another bonfire, but... there wasn't one. Gypped.

To my right, I spotted a pretty little scene in the sky--the clouds were all parting around a very bright sun.

Oh God. I'm gonna meet the stupid sun meme guy, aren't I?

I did. Standing near the edge of the cliff, he just stood there looking at that sun. I spoke to him for awhile, which ultimately ended up being a waste of time--all he does is give you some kind of soapstone, and I'm not playing online anyway. Fuck the sun.

Turning right back around, I attempted to cross another large bridge, guarded by three or four Burg zombies. PSSH, whatever. I ran up to them, when I heard a loud, shrieking roar.

Oh yeah, I don't think I mentioned--I spotted a dragon when I first entered the Burg, and now it's... here. Of course. It breathed fire, totally scalding the entire bridge--while I was still on it, of course--but I lived. Can't say the zombies were too lucky, though. Flustered, I attempted to sprint all the way back to where his flames couldn't reach me, but alas--I was about a foot away from escaping, but he burned me to a crisp.

Now I'm back at the Burg's bonfire.

FFUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

And ahhhh you finally met the asshole dragon, this is exactly the reaction I hoped you'd have.

If you want to know the strategy to getting past him just ask, but Im sure you want to figure this one out yourself.
