If you overhear that your cousin smoked a bowl last weekend, it shouldn't be some huge topic of gossip that possibly leads to an intervention; it should be like hearing your cousin went to McDonalds or had a beer last weekend. No big deal on it's own, possibly an issue if they're doing it every single day.
