Microsoft has been pathetic in their attempts at pushing their disgusting botnet onto the masses, and now they've resorted to purposely sabotaging previous OS's to get you to switch.

I've been running a half-version of 8.1 on the new computer since I put together back in February I think? About three months now, basically I have the OS I just need to activate it. Problem is I need a new product key code since I was using the old one from my previous desktop, I'm fine with buying a new code but Windows for whatever reason shits a brick if I just click the "Buy key" option when the pop up screen appears every four hours asking me to put in a key code.

Either I waste gas money going out and buying a physical disk when all I need is the code on the back, or I buy online from another retailer when I could have it solved right here and now in seconds if Microsoft wasn't being so pushy with 10. Should I just keep trying the "buy key now" option from Microsoft? Because it will be a cold day in Hell before I "upgrade" to their botnet infestation that is 10.

Just looked up a bunch of articles on W8 and 8.1, apparently Microsoft discontinued selling product keys for 8 and 8.1 last October. Seriously, FUCK them and their bullshit tactics at forcing people to get 10.

So I went and looked at the disk case that I got with 8.1 over a year ago to see which version of 8.1 I'm ultimately going to have to buy on Newegg, but it just says "Windows 8.1 Full Version" in a dark blue case. I don't want to spend over a hundred bucks on a copy of 8.1 only to put in the product key and be told "Not the right version LOL". Does anyone know which version of 8.1 I have now?

Yeah. At some point I checked my update logs on my comp. It apparently forgot to update for a couple years. So I figured I'd clean house. I didn't see the 8.1 update hidden in there.

When it hit boy did it ever fuck over my programs. Half my shit didn't work. I spent weeks trying to find solutions and found out that microsoft basically said fuck you to people who wanted to uninstall that shit.

So I said fuck it and went to 10. At least all my shit works now.

Seriously, I don't understand Microsoft's thought process on any of this shit. Forcing a square peg into a round hole will only make people want to jump ship faster. The only reason they're getting away with this is because Mac is for hippies and Linux is for Hipsters.

I'll eventually upgrade to 10 for directx 12, but I'm going to stay on 7 for as long as possible.

MS is basically doing the same thing they did with vista right now though. Releasing exclusive features and programs that could easily be done on an earlier OS to try and get people to switch over.

You can use XP if you'd like, but at the very lest make sure its with the full service pack upgrades and Avast as your anti virus since they will continue to support XP for awhile, a 64 for bit machine with XP is even better, more power to you. Otherwise, if you're chicken from Windows 10, Windows 7 is your next bet, I know what the patch is called to avoid getting the Windows 10 update, you just have to not install it under Windows Update.

I have no problems with Windows 10, so OP and everyone else is really paranoid for no good reason, because MS can get all your shit if they wanted to on the other OSes even. Dead sure of that.

Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System. That will tell you what edition you have.

Also, fuck newegg for that. Don't buy another copy of the OS all over again, you can just buy the product key from those 3rd party product key websites, its how I got Windows 10 Enterprise for dirt cheap compared to the volume license. If you want to know the site just PM me.

Yeah there were the usual launch day bugs, but most of them were fixed fairly soon after. I'm kind of surprised people aren't thanking MS for it in retrospect because Vista was what ended up forcing companies to finally start making 64 bit drivers
