Looking to start reading again after taking a hiatus, plus I feel like a retard half the time now and I want to broaden my understanding of topics I'm not particularly well versed in at the moment.

I think I'm really just looking to absorb some new concepts, so if you guys have read any cool books on theories or concepts lemme know.

Also If you guys want I'll create another thread where I keep track of all the books you guys recommend and what I think about them when I read them.

Title, Author and a description of what it's about. No spoilers please!

Thanks a lot guys

It depends on what you want. Do you want Western Philosophy or Eastern Philosophy?
You have the basics of Western Philosophy like Plato, Socrates or Friedrich Nietzsche.
Eastern Philosophy, you have Buddha, Rumi, Confucius,  and Laozi.

There aren't really any texts from Socrates though, it's more about his life written in a perspective from another man. Plato writes a couple about the man's life. It's pretty good, I guess. I'm not a fan of Western philosophy other than Friedrich Nietzsche, unfortunately.

Friedrich Nietzsche wrote "The Gay Science" and a couple other books. He was the one that coined the term, "God is Dead."

Buddha is Buddha. You know the nigga.

Rumi wrote a lot of religious texts, based mainly around the Quran. He writes a lot of "cycle of life" bull, except it's surrounded around the Muslim God. He's pretty good though.

Confucius says a lot of things. There's a reason why there's an entire religion surrounded around him.

Laozi was the contrast of Confucius. He was the one who said "Without Darkness, there can be no Light."

male, he/him

dracula can eat my whole ass!
Personally, I enjoyed The World as Will and Representation by Arthur Schopenhauer, but it's an extremely boring read. Must be something to do with the translation (I can let you borrow it if you want).

Not a book but an interesting topic we went over In philosophy class was the allegory of the cave by Plato or Socrates I forget. It focuses on what is reality/perception and if what's real to me is real to you. Mindfuck all day
