I actually hate money too OP. Everytime I try to tell people how money isn't everything I get laughed at and it makes me look like a hypocrite because my family has a good amount of money, but I truly believe I would be just as happy with the bare minimum.

Also my dream job is heavily looked down upon but i don't give a fuuuuuuhhhhk. Becoming a pro bodybuilder is what makes me happy

Liberal Arts is the pathway to unemployment. They shouldn't even be offered, maybe just the teaching program because that's all you can do.
>people actually believe this shit
Well, I don't want to be a teacher, there's not much else I can do. Every time I apply to something that involves business or math I get beat out by the people that actually majored in those things.
Probably because you lack the skillset they want, not the degree. It's really easy to get into HR, Payroll, Accounts Payable positions without a degree, or with a degree in History, because it's not about that. If you have the skills to do the job, they'll hire you.
Yeah well when you apply for a sale supervisor position at Best Buy, and then they don't even hire you things are starting to seem helpless.

Money doesn't mean much, you can get minimum wage and live a fantastic life.
this is easy to say when you're posting from inside one of your multiple supercars

Money means a fucking lot when your house gets foreclosed and you have nowhere to live. When you have to make the choice of paying your electric bill or buying food for your family this week.

Fuck money, just do something that makes you genuinely happy.

If you get money in return it's a plus. Everyone who says that money is everything are the idiots who end up fucking up and being unhappy.

Money doesn't mean much, you can get minimum wage and live a fantastic life. Look for the things you enjoy. If writing is something you love, something that makes you you, then do it. Who gives a fuck, it's your life do what you want.

I'd much rather everyone be happy and live a purposeful life, rather then the one they feel they have to live.

Money doesn't equal happiness, a sense of purpose does.
This is pure bullshit.

Frankly I'm insulted you come on here and say this shit while you're driving around a million dollar car.

I can say the same. Working minimum wage, AND seeing this post got my jimmies fucking rustled. No you can't live fantastically on minimum wage. You can barely fucking afford a cheap apartment with barely any food for yourself. What sad dumbass told him this? I don't even have $1000 yet from my job.

No. My friend doesn't either, and some how he's the fucking manager of a restaurant right now, I don't get it. I wish guidance counselors were more honest in college. They make you seem like you can do fucking anything with just a college degree when in reality experience matters more.

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
Why the fuck are we all jumping on BC's dick because he's rich. I don't know how he made his money, but being rich doesn't disqualify him from understanding fundamental aspects of human psychology and motivation.

Is he better off than most people and, probably, everybody on this forum? Yes. If he removed from the daily struggles of most people? Sure. But that doesn't make him wrong, in any sense. If you disagree with him, just because he's rich, then you're just as guilty as what you criticise him of.

It's optimistic, obviously, and a little misguided. But there's no reason to get malicious with him simply because he's somewhat naive. He isn't wrong, either, I've known people who were happy on minimum wage, going through life with a sense of contentedness. He isn't saying "If you aren't happy on minimum wage, you're a disgusting freeloader who needs to appreciate life more", he's saying that people are primarily driven by a sense of purpose and appreciation, and that it's possible, with the right mindset, to be happy while not in the best financial position.

Your friend got lucky then, or simply did much better in his interview than you. Don't assume a degree equates to an automatic jump up the ladder, but rather a quicker climb once you start.

His wealth and status has nothing to do with the fact that living a "fabulous life" on minimum wage is impossible in the US.

That's just as arrogant a thing to say as "everybody on minimum wage should be happy".

While the minimum wage might be unsatisfactory to you - and a lot of others - that doesn't mean you can dictate whether or not people are capable of living fulfilling lives in that situation, especially when you're thinking in purely financial terms.

The use of "fabulous" is what I take issue with. It's ignorant to assert that someone can live on minimum wage, much less fabulously, without knowing their circumstances. It's stupid to make such a grand generalization.

I live in Orange County, CA. One of the most expensive places to live in the US. A full-time minimum wage job couldn't even pay my rent if I split a 4-bedroom house with more than 4 people in a shit part of town, much less would it be possible to live fabulously on. And CA's minimum wage is a good ~$2 more than the federal minimum wage. If BC told me I could live on minimum wage I'd laugh at him.

Even in places with lower cost of living will minimum wage get you much.

It's stupid to tell someone a minimum wage job will be anything more than just scraping by and living paycheck-to-paycheck.

I'm not disputing that. He was, for the most part, wrong. The point I'm making is that it isn't necessarily because he's wealthy, and we shouldn't be making it about that. The fact that he drives expensive cars should have no bearing on the assertion he makes - that's irrelevant, to be honest.

That's the thing I'm concerned about.

Apart from that, it's insulting to those of us who were and/or are poor for him to say that while he has a garage full of super cars. What the fuck does he know about "living a fabulous life on minimum wage" if he's never experienced living a life off minimum wage?
I'm not concerned with whether or not he's experienced it; that doesn't disqualify him from being right. If he were to say something like "It's possible for British working-class single mothers to put kids into private school" without experiencing that, I know he'd still be correct.

I don't agree with his point, I just think his wealth has nothing to do with him being correct. Perhaps it has a bearing on him being wrong, but it needn't be brought up.

He isn't correct though. You can't live a "fabulous life" on minimum wage in America at all. You can't even live a good life. And to top it off, he says all this while having a bunch of super cars.
I'm not saying he is correct. I'm saying his wealth shouldn't be an issue. If you think he's wrong - fine, then say so. But I don't think the fact that he drives expensive cars needs to be an issue of the debate.

Perhaps it has a bearing on him being wrong, but it needn't be brought up.

Considering that he seems to be clueless on the subject that is likely the case. I think some people were just insulted that someone could be so ignorant about life and just immediately assumed his wealth was the reason for it, not the other way around like you suggested.

And that's fine, but it isn't necessarily his fault he's naive and wealthy. If you want to bring it up, then fine. But it just comes across like you're bashing him for being wealthy as opposed to being ignorant. That's my only problem here.

His wealth, while perhaps contributory, shouldn't be a point of criticism itself.

Your love gets me so high
Hey there, Verb, I know that there's a great chance that you'll probably ignore this post since you have me muted and you dislike me, but hear me out. Fuck all of the people in the STEM circlejerk who put others down for their interests. If you love to write, and you believe you have legitimate talent, then by all means go for it. If you're really good at what you do and you stay persistent with your goals, the money will come. Sure, you might have to bounce around minimum wage jobs for a few years, but it's not like that's so uncommon among people at this age. What a lot of STEM majors need to understand is that they are NOT guaranteed a job just because of their major, they have to actually be good at what they do and be skilled enough to get the big-money jobs that pay $100k+/year.

Personal happiness should be the #1 goal, in my opinion.
