Republicans own the House, Senate, and governorship.

There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.
Love life; but take nothing too seriously.
I decided to look up the election results (been busy mane)  and was kind of surprised at how red the country has gotten. Im not really surprised by the results of the House however it's surprising to see so many republican governors. Not bad in my opinion. I want to see where this goes. Thoughts?

Thoughts? I think it's funny people are so excited as if this means republicans can now operate without opposition.

Reading a few Internet comments/misunderstanding people doesn't constitute as "plenty of people". To say people think any party can operate without opposition is simply you using hyperbole or just outright lying. The latter being most likely.

True. But the line between right and wrong is easily blurred when millions of people are in the decision making process.

I'm not surprised

People just got hyped with the Democrats because Obama is half black. Now that he has only two years and much of his promises he never kept, it's like people waking up from a long night of drinking and thinking "ugh, shouldn't have done that"

The fact that people think that says otherwise.

Perhaps. His supporters have dwindled, no doubt about that. Granted that's normal with all presidencies. But I can see people are willing to let the republicans handle things, especially locally with the governors.

Its not just congress or governors. State legislators were even more of a bloodbath.
Meh. Havent been too bothered to be honest. In more of a sit back and watch mode.

Dem turnout was abysmal so I don't think this says much about 2016, or the country. Especially if you look at polling on the issues. Will be interesting to see where things go from here though.

Midterms historically have very low voter turnout, anyway.

This is known. Mostly only the elderly get out and vote during midterms. Plus a lot less people vote for congress/state stuff than do for president. So they tend to be older and more conservative. That said the Republicans ran a pretty diverse field and made history in more than a few states.

When no one votes republicans win. In this off year cycle only a third of the eligible voting population showed up to vote. Plus you had a bunch of voter suppression tactics being used in various states.

Seeing as how Obama's average approval rating is the lowest since Carter, people are simply fed up with him and his redundant policies

It's crazy how people cook up various excuses about the voting process because the republicans achieved numerous victories. By the way, a third of the eligible voters turning up for elections like this is fairly decent.

I'm not sure if your trolling because it's fairly well documented that Republicans do well in low voter turnout elections and democrats do well in high voter turnout elections.

It's not exactly an excuse if I'm just parroting fact. I'm not even surprised that this happened and in fact I predicted it too due to the fact that it's an off year election and off year elections almost always have abysmal voter turn out rates.

But it's true. Keeping the poor and minorities out of the voting booth is to their advantage.

I edited after you replied in regards to turnout. But yeah elections like this will indeed have low turnout rates. But considering the turnout rate is relatively constant for these elections, it's hardly a valid excuse to use as this being a relevant variable into the GOP wining. Also, the claim that democrats do well consistently in high voter turnout rates is statistically false.

I think I understand where you're coming from with your line of thinking.

You mistakingly following a conventional line of thinking that leads you to believe that "even if thirty percent of the population voted that should still be a good indication of how the rest of the nation would vote". This is actually pretty solid reasoning.

However what you're not taking into account is demographics. The republican voter base is made up of people who are much more able and much more likely to vote and therefore they have a consistently solid voter base that will be there for them every election.

Low voter turnout elections are pretty much the equivalent of polling the Fox News viewership of their political affiliations and then responding that 90% of Americans are Republican.

Depending on your political affiliation and mindset you may see this as a good thing though as in your mind keeping what you may consider to be the undesirable and uninformed masses from hijacking the country through a true popular vote is what's best.

Are we still not discussing delegating more power to the states in order to lessen Congress' influence over everyone?  I mean, each state might as well be its own country (especially when it comes to culture).  Part of me is glad that government will be expanding a little bit slower over the next few years, but part of me is outraged because "deregulation" is being forced on people.
