Except that pearl harbour could be retaliated against. Within four years, they had avenged those who died. Because tey were fighting a nation, something that could be destroyed.

Here, they basically declared war on an ideology, soemthing anyone can pick up and adopt. And they can never win because of it. There's more terror groups and shit in that area now than there ever was in 2001 because of the invasion.

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.

Not really. What you see are a lot of divisions, splinter groups, and reformed cells. Prominent groups in the middle east have been active for decades and don't like competition.

i stand corrected

it's literally just the middle ages with guns and tanks

just let them do their thing and kill each other, then mop up the remnants is my philosophy

We declared war on Al Qaeda, and actually won that fight for the most part through the eradication of AQ in Afghanistan and the ouster of the Taliban in Afghanistan, as well as the killing of several generations of AQ leadership. The 'war on terror' is ongoing, but 9/11 certainly was avenged.

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
The people begged the emperor to surrender because they feared for his life, not because they didn't want to die themselves.
Shit, seriously?

It's not that simple, but the military leadership was consistently again unconditional surrender terms because it precluded the hope of keeping Hirohito in power, and the culture of bushido that had pervaded the entire country (most significantly in the military) meant that the Japanese people strongly believed that dying for their emperor was a duty; suicide was an honorable action to take after defeat, and it's very likely that in the event of imminent defeat during an invasion, we would have seen mass suicide among the Japanese populace.
