quick question: how did this community start?

obviously this forum branched off from the Bungie forums (i'm guessing because of B.next and the new trash that came in with Destiny), but what was the history behind that? i.e. was there a private group that decided to move offsite, did a few key members create a new site and invite people from the Bungie forums, or something else?

after b.next dropped, i mostly abandoned the Bungie forums, and so i missed just about everything that went in. i'm pretty curious as to how this site got its start.

A flower which blooms on the battlefield
True Velox made a forum on ProBoards, which got nuked because of Comms.
Cheat then made this place.

Basically, on top of what Lemon said, Bungie released an update to their website most of us were unhappy about.
It ruined a lot of what made the site good, on top of choosing to develop the site that way to only accomodate the new users there for Destiny, instead of their long time fans.
As the website grew with idiots only coming for Destiny, the users you see here, along with many we've lost along the way, moved off Bnet to eventually land here.

aye, i was there up through that. the site updates that came w/ Destiny really fucked the forums (and the community) up. that's why i left too.

so it really just grew over time as more people realized how awful the new bungie forums were? that's pretty cool. glad to see this place turned out pretty successful in that.

thanks for the answers (both of you)!

The Analects, it's in the Reads thread.
It's not a good thing to show people who want to know how we ended up here, it's a storied version written for the members already here, a bit of fun.

Ah yes.

I should really update that again >.>

"Ornate chandeliers suspended from a vaulted ceiling lit the spacious chamber; Jack tilted his gaze overhead and noticed how far away they were.  His thoughts wove around those bright lights, like a dance of ether masses spiraling in precious unison. Why must we try to clutch desperately for the mere threads of this world when we can clasp onto a tapestry of untold magnificence beyond this plane of existence?"
I wonder how it will end

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
I swear there was at least two pro-board forums before Cheat volunteered to take us in here.

Well THAT was a leap in the dark.

There was one for sure, there might've been another, but iirc that was taken down asap due to some drama shit before Cheat opened this place up.

Yeah, it lasted a day or two before shit from the last forum spilled over and led to the shutting down of the forum before here.

I joined on the hurriedly put together one, then migrated here.

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
There was the first proboards  that comms killed, then another proboards that the staff killed for "evading" the "ban" of the first board.

‘The most inoffensive user on this website’ - Verbatim
Basically the July 17 update last year disabled all website compatibility with Coup, added a blaring white background (that couldn't be changed), and broke several other features, to the point where you may as well have been using Internet Explorer 6. #gaming, #Community, and #Bungie were also overrun with misposting that really belonged in #Destiny, Moderators did nothing about it, and Cringeworthy 9gag-tier 14 year olds took over #Offtopic. The mobile app also crashed regularly afterwards, on top of displaying year count instead of join date.

That led to a large portion of the users making threads complaining about it, and then the Proboards forum went up. Some dramatic shitstorm happened that made everybody flame the absolute shit out of Noelle and Kinder, resulting in the site taken down. That's all I know on the leadup to sep7 being created.
