But then I turned 15.

Serious / Re: Do you consider "Spanking" to be child abuse?
« on: October 05, 2014, 03:10:04 PM »
I wouldn't necessarily label it as abuse per se, but it's definitely not beneficial to the upbringing of the child.

When my parents resorted to smacking, it didn't instill me with good morals or taught me to behave accordingly. It just made me fear them even more, and taught me to be extra sneaky whenever I felt like misbehaving. A rare skelp across the head every once in a blue moon conveys the message that they really did step out of line sure, but if you overdo it, the child just becomes accustomed and learns how to avoid getting caught, instead of learning to not misbehave.

That sucks. But on the bright side, a lot of the evidence attests to the fact that SHE is incapable of taking responsibility of the children, something the court is definitely gonna factor in. Like you said, nothing's certain, but the odds definitely seem in your favour for custodial rights from what you've told us.

I don't find it funny either. And I usually find these MLG videos hilarious. You wouldn't be laughing if you had a brother you had to restrain because he'd have fits like the kid in the video. Don't you see the pain in the mother's face?
I have an autistic cousin myself, so I'm well aware of the damage autism can inflict on families. Thing is, I use humour to detract pain from life, and so do a lot of people. I'm sorry if you want the grimdark serious approach to everything in life, but that's just not how I operate.

Not to mention that access to mental health treatment is a fracking joke in the Western World.
Correct again, which leads on to what conclusions?
There is none, merely highlighting the bullshit of society.

I'm not exactly drowning in sympathy here, but even so this is pretty disgusting.

As Challenger says, I really wouldn't give a shit at all if they just slit his throat but torturing/disembowelling... eh... that's a bit much really.
Just curious, do you think murder or child rape is worse?
Child rape. No child deserves to be raped. Some people deserve to be murdered.
Idiocy.
So a guy that tortures people for a living doesn't deserve to be killed? He has zero remorse and does it for absolutely no reason.

A child doesn't deserve to be raped. Ever.
No one deserves to die or be molested, ever. But kids that are molested still get to hold onto their most important possession: life. There's no excuse for either, but killing someone is much worse.
Some people who were molested as children would be rather be dead because of the tragedy that occurred to them. Just saying. Not everyone holds life to the standard that you do.
Yes, that is what happens without proper therapy and counseling. However, death can't be helped like psychological trauma.
Therapy isn't the be all and end all to every psychological issue though. Someone can have the best therapist that money can buy, but there's still that possibility of the problem never being remedied because it's just simply too traumatic.

Not to mention that access to mental health treatment is a fucking joke in the Western World.

Then they should kill themselves. Life is the most important thing we have. It's our entire existence. Taking that away is leagues worse than traumatizing someone.
I think I can speak on behalf of the zeitgeist when I say that the general consensus is that the STANDARD of life is much more valuable than the sheer quantity. I'd rather live to 40 and have a happy life than live to 80 and have a shitty, traumatic life. At the end of the day, we're all on this ball of rock to pursue happiness, not longevity.
But even if you were molested as a child, you have the opportunity to move past that and still live a full, happy life. If you're killed, that's it. It's over.
Not really. If I was molested it's emotional baggage that I have to carry for the rest of my life. I'm pretty sure I'd much rather be dead than having all that grief and humiliation with me all the time.

« on: October 01, 2014, 02:00:56 PM »
What I find really annoying is the frequency of some people to try to label critics of islam as racists.
Not only that, but it's objectively incorrect. Islam isn't a race anymore than being a Satanist is.

Serious / Why is Islamophobia a thing?
« on: October 01, 2014, 12:45:55 PM »
The name implies that criticizing Islam and its subscribers is somehow derogatory. It's not. You weren't born Islamic. Sure, you can be born into an Islamic family, but that doesn't automatically make your faith dogmatic and irreversible. Belief isn't akin to sexuality or race. Belief is malleable. Yet why do we treat that those who practice Islamic beliefs as if they had no choice in the matter?

Just a thought that sprang to mind for some reason.

You're all looking at me, you're going, "Well yeah, you're a success, you've achieved you're goals, you're reaping the rewards, sure. But, OI, Brent. Is all you care about chasing the Yankee dollar?" Let me show you something I always keep with me. Just a little book, Collective Meditations, and it's a collection of philosophers, writers, thinkers, native American wisdom, which I, and it's really showing you that, er, the spiritual side needs as much care and attention as the physical side. It's about feeding the soul, yeah? Evolving spirituality. And a foreword by Duncan Goodhew, so... Can I read one-which I think- "If all men were to bring their miseries together in one place, most would be glad to take each, his own, home again, rather than take a portion out of the common stock." It's saying, for the first time, you know, the grass isn't always greener on the other side, don't look over your neighbour's fence and go "ooh he's got a better car than me, ooh, he's got a more attractive wife." We all wake up and we go "oh, I ache, I'm not 18 any more, you know, I'm thirty ni- you know, I'm in my thirties, I'm not-", but so what, at least I've got my health. And if you haven't got your health-if you've got one leg, at least I haven't got two legs missing. And if you have lost both legs and both arms, just go "at least I'm not dead. I'd rather be dead in that situation, to be honest. I'm not saying people like that should be... you know, put down. I'm saying that, in my life, I'd rather not live without arms and legs because... I'm just getting into yoga, for one thing. So...

The only conspiracy I can think of with a semblance of legitimacy behind it is the aforementioned 9/11 orchestration. That being said, even that has a lot of contradictory evidence and claims that just don't hold up under scrutiny.
