I really wanted to like that movie.
It's actually my favourite movie of the year so far. (Haven't seen Nightcrawler yet, but need to get round to it.) If you take the movie at face value and don't expect it to be Pacific Rim 2.0 then you'll probably enjoy it more. I find it's more of a disaster movie rather than a monster movie, and that's not necessarily bad.

It's pretty much the epitome of antiquated at this point. Equality, by and large, has been accomplished between the genders in the Western World, (I will never consider societal perceptions as oppression, so get the fuck out my face if you're going to start whining about "slut shaming." Seriously, just don't go there. It's not oppression. Simple as.) so it's time to stop thinking about women's rights, and start focusing our attentions on INDIVIDUAL rights irregardless of gender. Egalitarianism/humanism is now the way forward, at least in the West.
As Meta pointed out though, we definitely need first wave feminism in the third world, although their problems do not just stem from the mistreatment of women. To tackle the issue in its entirety you need to be prepared to address the systemic roots and institutions within said country. Crying "WE NEED FEMINIZM" without actually offering any productive solutions or expecting the mere mention of the name to somehow magically solve the problem isn't going to get us anywhere.

So #gamergate has been pretty much drowning the gaming industry in bullshit recently I think they're pretty much justified when the gaming press literally announced their identity as "null and void" and that they didn't exist anymore. But whatever, fighting for journalistic integrity is just shitting up the gaming sphere right? I honestly think a group of people who send rape threats to random female persons in the gaming industry completely disgusting. The anti Gamergate side have yet to prove any causal link between harassers and Gamergate. All harassers we've seen have been rogue twitter accounts. Once again, disingenuously twisting the narrative. And remember guys.
