why ruin the thread?
"It's bad because it was posted on reddit!"
That's not how it works, that sounds like something someone on their first week of /b/ would say. I don't even use reddit, but I know enough to realise that you get shit posted pretty much everywhere. It's not exclusive to a site someone else told you not to like.
I haven't been "told" to like anything. Sure I'll give it props for the occasional funny post or solid discussion link every once in a while, but more often than not it's riddled with insufferable liberal humour and le epin puns and yamyams. I outgrew most of it when I turned 17.

BRAVO

NOLAN
Oh, wrong movie
The black hole represents Nolan's genius; untapped and infinite beyond scope.

No, it's meant to foreshadow that Bane is a surrogate evil, and that the true evildoing would transpire regardless of who was wearing the mask, because he's not actually the main villain.
Also, your understanding of the scene is flawed in general, as you are under the popular impression that Bane was reminding CIA that he was a big guy "for him."
The intended result was for bane to say "It would be extremely painful, for you." but CIA interrupted him, showing that CIA was too eager and obscuring his own view of events, which was the ultimate downfall of him.
This is also foreshadowing to when Batman eagerly confronts Bane somewhere where he must play by Bane's rules, just as CIA had, and teaches the ultimate moral lesson that you cannot be just if you are too eager to hand out punishment.
No it's not you fucking hothead.

It took me years but I think I've finally grasped Nolan's genius. You see, the plane scene is all symbolism, it represents the battle between the forces of heaven and Hell. Bane is a synonym for adversary, and guess who's name translates to The Adversary?
When CIA brought Dr. Pavel, he was trying to get him to heaven, or "on board." When Mosquito Man brought the other members, CIA (obviously representing St Peter) initially refused them, but Mosquito Man reminded him that he has a duty to redeem them, stating they work for Bane (Satan).
When CIA says "first one to talk gets to stay on my aircraft" he's actually trying to get them to repent their sins, and "lotta loyalty for a hired gun" refers to the fact that Satan only considers them to be puppets, not real people (as further demonstrated when Bane leaves one behind).
The symbolism continues. Bane says it doesn't matter who he is, which is obviously a reference that evil is evil, regardless of the man behind it. Bane's reliance on his mask is a symbol of his eternal curse for his desertion, as it would be extremely painful if he had to face up to what he did, though Bane is quick to remind CIA that he isn't a big guy compared to those such as Michael.
The "Plane crash" and Dr Pavel being snatched are symbolic of Dr. Pavel deciding to give in to temptation and join the league of shadows.
It truly is poetry. I've only scratched the surface of Nolan's masterpiece.

I really tried to get into Battlefield in general, but eh, it isn't for me. I feel like it can't decide on what it actually wants to be. It's not exactly realistic because games like Operation Flashpoint already covers realistic warfare amiably, and it's not entirely action oriented either considering CoD excels in the over the top pew pew sploshens department. It's just a painfully average series, albeit with a slightly pretty, JJ Abrams lens flare tinge to it.
I suppose I'll see what the general consensus is after release and pick it up at bargain bin price if it gains positive reception.

There was a tv show called Jericho that echoed similar ideas to Fallout, i.e. the post apocalyptic nuclear setting, warring factions etc.
It wasn't that great from what I heard.

Ya, you guys should just stop with the damage control already. You are embarrassing yourselves. Especially Lemon and Max.
I'm not damage controlling anything. Neither are Lemon and Max. What we're doing is something called criticism. Such a novel concept isn't it?

There's only so much you can do with therapy though. Says who?
Every decent therapist ever? There's a reason why they can prescribe drugs and certain types of treatment. Talking can do a lot of good. But there's certain things that just talking can't fix.
I'm not necessarily saying fix. Very rarely do psychiatrists completely cure an individual of mental illness. Mitigate however? Entirely possible. The fact that was never even considered is peculiar.
What makes you say it was never considered? He was diagnosed with GID by multiple psychiatrists at age 7 and didn't start the hormone blockers until puberty was about to start at age 11. I'd say it's rather likely he still saw psychiatrists to deal with his situation during those 4 years.
I guess my problem is this whole "hormone blocking" therapy she's undergoing. It just doesn't sound healthy for someone about to enter maturity. Is there any credible evidence it helps young troubled trangenders cope?

It is a really good show. If you cannot comprehend what is happening in the show, it is not the show's fault and does not make it bad. I do not mean that in a negative way towards you, but the show is not for everyone. Some people like mindless action or boring stories. The Walking Dead is about character development and about this group surviving in this dead world.

And no, I don't mean that in a good way.
Ever since All Mighty Cunts shafted Frank Darabont and slashed the budget in half to save a couple $$ I've been tuning into this show to see if it ever picks up. Every time, every damn time a new episode is released I actually pour in an hour of my life to watch it, hoping, expecting that there will actually be character development, advancement of the plot, and to not just be another FUCKING FILLER EPISODE.
Is it inertia? Am I really a pleb? Does anyone else watch the show just because it's routine now, and not because it's actually good?

But the article clearly states this is the precedent for a sex change, which I assume involves surgery of some kind.
A sex change that might take place years later and isn't a necessary consequence of hormone blockers.
Kid is happy with his choice? Few years down the line, he gets a sex change done and will be a lot more feminine and happy with his body than someone who waited until they were 16-18 before trying to reverse what puberty did to them.
Kid isn't happy with his choice? They stop the hormone treatment and give him testosterone supplements which will let his body mature naturally.
And you're sure there is no long term medical damage from these hormone blockers? I mean, I'm no medical expert, but I'm pretty sure the hormones tailored to your biological sex are imperative, or at least important for maturity and growth. Hell, maybe this was all ruled out by this psychiatrist, but I've got a slight inkling that psychiatric therapy would've been preferable than just pumping the kid with these aforementioned hormone blockers. Again, maybe I'm wrong and everything works out in the end, but something just feels off about the way they handled all this. Transgenderism is a controversial issue, as well a significant grey area that shouldn't just be written off as the new civil rights movement or a psychiatric disorder. The truth is, we don't really know what it is yet which is why I think she should've been treated with therapy.

Props to the devs that stuck to their guns and kept the parts which they thought were integral, regardless of how it affected the rating and market revenue. It definitely seems like they really value storytelling and quality over simply raking in cash.
All good signs of what's to come.

how can they force him to change his gender when he likely doesn't even comprehend sexuality yet at all? 1. They're hormone blockers. It's not a sex change operation or HRT treatment. They're not "changing his gender", it's simply postponing the development of masculine features. 2. "Force"? The kid has been diagnosed with GID by a psychiatrist and has spent pretty much his entire life identifying as a girl, even to the point of threatening with genital mutilation. If anything, these parents gave in to him. This could potentially ruin his entire life Or, probably more likely, this could improve his entire life and not force the kid into a very likely depression and struggles with his identity for the rest of his life. and should be considered child abuse. Lolno. Gender transition/change should only be allowed for an individual once they are capable of total understanding of it and are legal in age, Again, this isn't gender transitioning or change. not a whim decision because he's worn women's clothes or something. Yeah, I can see how a child being diagnosed with GID by a professional and spending more than half his life wanting to be a girl to the point of coming close to cutting his own genitals off is totally a "whim decision". Really? These parents are terrible people. I'd argue the opposite, actually.
I don't necessarily disagree with your stance, but I'd just like to point out that there are a lot of conflicting studies as to what causes suicide and depression amongst transgender individuals. Some studies suggest that surgery and conformity to the gender they identify with is the best way to tackle gender dysphoria and disorders, others like John Hopkins Hospital suggest that surgery increases the likeliness of suicide. There is no black and white answers.
All in all, I don't think you or the parents in question are entirely incorrect, but there's some significant nuances you're missing out here.
The one thing you're missing is that there's no surgery here. They're hormone blockers. They stop the body from going through near irreversible changes during puberty, while leaving the possibility of reversing this later if the person so wishes. I'm not seeing the problem with giving a child that clearly has GID the chance to hold off on becoming more masculine during the most uncomfortable years of one's life.
If this was an 8 year old having a sex change surgery or hormone / HRT treatment, then I'd agree with you. But this is a pretty different scenario.
But the article clearly states this is the precedent for a sex change, which I assume involves surgery of some kind.
