Serious / Re: The Iraq War

I'm doing damage control? I... well yes, on this particular point, but this hardly undermines the larger point of my argument. 52% is still something that shouldn't be ignored, and as far as I'm concerned, they make up the majority.
Agreed, but that's not the initial narrative you were trying to spin.
Quote
You answered your own question.
Please tell me how a 50/50 approval rating of Obama has anything to do with what we're talking about.
Quote
You're conveniently ignoring the fact that the war directly contributed to the modern incarnation of ISIS.
Sorry what? Please tell me how the Iraq War contributed to formation of ISIS in 1999?
Quote
I would prefer to stop continuing the policy of unnecessary interventions that have inevitably caused more problems than they solved. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it, as you've clearly proven.
All these wars were aggravated on behalf of the Communist governments, not the US, especially the Bay Of Pigs seeing as how Cuba was fucking around with US oil and had strong ties to the Soviet Union.
Quote
But how about you go invade Iran and Palestine and Syria while you're at it? I haven't seen a solid explanation yet as to why those countries are somehow fundamentally different from Saddam's Iraq. (Hint: they're not)
Iran is a (relatively, and I emphasize relatively) stable middle eastern region, much more stable than Iraq during the early noughties, and I find it laughable that you would even try to draw a comparison between the two. Obviously it's got some tensions with the US regarding it's nukes, but from what I recall, Ahmadinejad didn't participate in ethnic cleansing, fucking around with oil (which would've effected the entire world economy) or try to annex Kuwait.

Palestine is barely even a sovereign nation anymore, no thanks to Hamas. I fail to see the relevancy between Palestine and Hussein controlled Iraq though.

Syria? The FSA is being supported by the US, I would like to add, although granted, the FSA aren't exactly angelic either. And again, Assad wasn't nearly doing half the shit Hussein committed. Internet surveillance, torture and secret police? Yeah, it's despicable shit, but in comparison to Hussein he's practically Nelson Mandela.

48% is a minority. Fractions.
No it's not. It's a minority in the sense of statistics, but in politics that's a substantial demographic.

It's like saying the outcome of the Scottish Independence referendum was a landslide for the No campaign simply because they won. It wasn't. 45% wanted independence. You can't just ignore that simply because it was a slightly smaller number.

All you're really doing here is taking the pedant route to try and damage control a source you fucked up on in a haphazard attempt to spin an incorrect narrative, and you're not exactly being inconspicuous about it either.
Quote
But this inane line of reasoning is like saying "America likes Obama." Yeah, um... no. That's hardly the case.
All your poll suggests is that half of Americans disapprove of Obama, and the other half approves. I'm not really sure what point you're trying to make here.
Quote
Besides, the folks who don't like America are now the ones trying to wage jihad against it. You can't just ignore that the West created its own problems despite other lukewarm opinions towards it.
Jihad has been around even before America was established as a sovereign nation.

Honestly, what would you have preferred? A slowly but surely recovering post war nation, or an unchecked megalomaniacal dictator left to ran amok and do whatever he pleases with 20% of the world's oil? If you'd like to offer us a better alternative as to how we should've dealt with Hussein, then please, we're all ears.

A majority of the Iraqi population says they feel worse off since the country was invaded. 'Welcomed' my ass.
Uh huh. From the article:
Quote
Iraqis expressed concern about the departure of U.S. forces, but are nonetheless cautiously optimistic. Six in 10 Iraqis, said a report on the results, feared a possible civil war, partition of the country, outsized foreign influence by neighbors, terrorism, or economic woes. The concerns played into mixed Iraqi emotions
Nice distortion of the information being conveyed there. All that's really telling us is that the Iraqi population are apprehensive about the future, which is not the same as saying "they feel worse off."

In fact, an ACTUAL polling report suggests that 48% of the Iraqi population feel better off and 52% believe the economy was strong and security and sectarianism were getting better.
al-Baghdadi would like to have a word with you. But did you even read your own source? 48% is a minority, and either way it's hardly a uniform opinion.
Half the population is a minority? I think Mathematics would like a word with you.

I've got my bets on Daryl and like half of the Alexandria community kicking the bucket. Rick'll probably get exiled or something and run into The Wolves, or The Wolves will attack first and Rick saves Alexandria.

I don't think we'll be seeing Negan for a while. We're round about issue 70 adjacent to the comic storyline, and Negan doesn't turn up till about 100, so we've still got a bit to go. Glenn won't die. I can guarantee that.

Modern academia really has let down an entire generation of disenfranchised young males. It's truly disgusting.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we started seeing an actual pay gap between the sexes, with males getting the short end of the stick not because of their personal lifestyle choices, but because our education system has totally and utterly failed them.

Actually there are lots of neighborhoods in states like California for example where you have to drive 20 minutes to go to a big store. People should have to drove 20 minutes to spare your feelings?
If you choose to live in such an isolated, rural community then driving long distances to reach a convenience store or general supermarket kind of comes with the territory anyway.

That's not really the point I'm trying to make though. What I'm saying is that businesses and store owners should be able to refuse service to just about anyone under the sun, just like it is our right as consumers to slander, libel and boycott said businesses as well as choose to spend our money elsewhere. Like I said, at the end of the day, the only people these businesses are doing a disservice to is themselves by isolating their consumer base, which is completely within their right to do.

Contrary to what you think you know about America (because you've never fucking been there in your life)
What is with you and these fucking anecdotal arguments of yours? "You've never been to X country therefore you have no right to talk about its issues"

Yeah no, that's not how it works. If I go by your logic we wouldn't even be able to have a fucking conversation on this board at all.
Quote
it's full of racists everywhere. There are Asian and Mexican stores who'd deny service to black folks in LA if they were allowed to.
I never denied there are racists in America, so I'd appreciate you not putting word in my mouth. My contention however, is that I don't think it's as prevalent as it's made out to be, and certainly not within the private sector where there's no money to be made from denying service to specific demographics.

5301
You know how easy it is to just use this as an excuse to disallow gays or minorities into your establishments, right?
So?

If you don't like it, be a responsible consumer and boycott the business.
That may not be an option. May communities are staunchly anti-LGBT and citizens may have to go miles and miles out of their way to find a business that they are comfortable doing business with.
Unless they're living in some backwater collection of a community like Sandtrap is, I'm pretty sure the majority of towns and cities have a general convenience store/supermarket that caters to everyone. Contrary to what you may believe, the majority of the US isn't the slave trade era South anymore.

Do you support or condemn the US, UK and various other coalition allies that invaded Iraq in 2003?

I'm kind of mixed about it. On one hand the explanation Bush and Blair gave for invading Iraq was tenuous at best. All WMD's were either lost or destroyed during the Gulf War, so I kind of reconcile with the zeitgeist that it was a pretty pathetic reason to invade. On the other hand it toppled one of the most oppressive, totalitarian dictatorships of the decade, and if Saddam were to continue unchecked, I'm positive Iraq would've been astronomically off worse than it is today.

So? These businesses are only doing a disservice to themselves. Let them discriminate any kind of demographic they want and witness their business spectacularly flop. That's the beauty of the free market. It punishes those who are selective of their consumers.
