Serious / Nuclear Weaponry: Effective deterrent or not?« on: April 29, 2015, 12:46:00 PM »
One of the main talking points in the upcoming UK general election is whether Trident (a military programme that encapsulates the development of the UK's nuclear arsenal) should be renewed or scrapped. The far left parties such as SNP, Plaid and the Greens would cream their pants if they saw it scrapped, whereas the three main political parties (Labour, Conservatives and the Lib Dems) are either renewing or increasing spending, and UKIP of all parties, would see a cutback in the amount of submarines deployed. I currently have mixed opinions.
My question to serious is whether nuclear weaponry is indeed, an effective deterrent against the prospect of another war, or is it simply a charade governments use to parrot the notion that it keeps us secure? 5046

The Flood / Re: I Love You So Much« on: April 28, 2015, 07:13:20 PM »Imagine being Arnold in True Lies having to be all like "damn, Jamie Curtis, you fuckin' fine, all sexy with your tight body and horrific androgynous monster face. I would totally have sex with you, both my character and the real me." when all he really wants to do is fuck another 16 year old in his dressing room. Like seriously imagine having to be Arnold and not only sit in that chair while Jamie Lee Curtis flaunts her disgusting body in front of you, the favourable lighting barely concealing her stretchmarks and leathery skin, and just sit there, take after take, hour after hour, while she perfected that dance. Not only having to tolerate her monstrous fucking visage but her haughty attitude as everyone on set tells her she's STILL GOT IT and DAMN, JAMIE LEE CURTIS LOOKS LIKE THAT?? because they're not the ones who have to sit there and watch her mannish fucking gremlin face contort into types of grimaces you didn't even know existed before that day. You've been fucking nothing but a healthy diet of blondes and supermodels and later alleged rape victims for your ENTIRE CAREER coming straight out of the boonies in Austria. You've never seen anything this fucking disgusting before, and now you swear you can taste the sweat that's breaking out on her dimpled stomach as she sucks it in to writhe it suggestively at you, smugly assured that you are enjoying the opportunity to get paid to sit there and revel in her "statuesque" (for that is what she calls herself) "beauty," the beauty she worked so hard for with personal trainers in the previous months. And then the director calls for another take, and you know you could kill every single person in this room before the studio security could put you down, but you sit there and endure, because you're fucking Arnold. You're not going to lose your future political career over this. Just bear it. Hide your face and bear it. 5048

I reckon further investigation is required. It is extremely peculiar how she waited 5 hours after all the violence had escalated to enact a press conference, where she seemed to hold contempt for the media instead of the rioters. 5059

Serious / Re: Race being a Social Construct has a fair amount of truth in it.« on: April 27, 2015, 08:33:28 PM »It should also go without saying that there's not going to be anything within our genome that could possibly justify the centuries of attrition levied towards racial minorities let alone social segregation or other minor forms of racial discriminationOf course, but that doesn't mean we should perform mental gymnastics to try and convince ourselves that there isn't a biological basis for race if we do end up discovering damning evidence in the future that confirms the notion. I'm not even saying there absolutely positively is a biological grounding for race, I'm just saying we shouldn't rule out the possibility, especially seeing as how scientists are discovering the different variations of alleles in the races. Quote Which is essentially what the "social construct" theory is predicated upon.I'd sure like to examine this aforementioned "theory." Quote If it takes us this long to find anything within our DNA to suggest anything about race, it's likely negligible, and we've made the tallest mountain out of the smallest anthill with it.I'm not sure what argument you seem to think I'm positing here, but whatever it is, it isn't the case. Should we treat all ethnicities the same if we do end up discovering different genetic variations in race? Yes, of course. But is it "racist" to scientifically inquire the human genome? No, and that's a laughable notion at best. 5066
Serious / Re: Race being a Social Construct has a fair amount of truth in it.« on: April 27, 2015, 07:56:19 PM »Well again, arbitrarily declaring race as significantly social is irrational seeing as how we possess little to no knowledge on the human genome. The logical thing to say is that we don't know if race is either biologically or socially constructed.New evidence is emerging to suggest there is in fact a biological basis for race though. We've only just started mapping the human genome which takes an astronomical amount of computational power to process, so to affirm the notion that race is purely a social construct when we've barely even begun to understand genetics is simply fallacious and unscientific.I'm not saying that race is entirely a social construct, but my argument is that a significant portion of "race" is indeed a social construct. 5067

It goes without saying that racism and discrimination are wrong as a matter of principle of course, but that doesn't mean we should disregard empirical evidence for the sake of political correctness. 5068

The Flood / Age of Ultron review« on: April 27, 2015, 04:46:05 PM »
Just got back from the cinema. Here are my thoughts:
-Better than the first, and has a much more cohesive plot this time, although I didn't particularly think the first movie was anything to ride home about so I'm not sure if this holds any weight -Characters were expanded upon that were kind of ignored in the first one -Lots of alluding to the security/freedom paradigms that will come into play in Civil War which I really enjoyed -Dialogue is still cheesy, but Whedon learned from Assemble to tone it down. Some of it actually drew a couple chuckles from me admittedly -Some of the acting and special effects were weak in a few areas, although it doesn't really effect the experience significantly -The Maximoff twins were written poorly. Don't expect to be blown away by them. -Ultron isn't memorable either. I mean, he's a serviceable villain, but you can't really empathise with his goals like you can with Loki. He's smart mouthed, but lacking in any sort of gravitas -To compensate though, Vision is great even if he doesn't get a boatload of screen time -Becomes a bit of a Michael Bay tier rooty tooty point and shooty fest nearing the end, although it's not as gratuitous, and the action is more versatile than just mindless explosions Overall, I felt like I got my money's worth, wasn't as fedora tipping as I thought it'd be, and is definitely one of the stronger MCU movies despite not being able to top Iron Man 1 and The Winter Soldier. 7.5/10 from me. I will divulge in spoilers if people want me to. 5070
