Gaming / Explain The Witcher lore and story to me thus far
« on: May 19, 2015, 08:14:24 AM »
In a short and digestible paragraph if at all possible.

Never played a Witcher game before but I love Dragon Age, and with all the raving reviews Wild Hunt has piqued my interest. I need to know the backstory of a game before I jump in though. Would apprec8 it m80s.

The Others are amassing an underwater wight army near kings landing using the bodies from the battle at black water bay. Prophecies have been seen that the long winter will shroud kings landing

what
remember dany's vision at the house of the undying? snow covering a destroyed throne room? what do you think the Others have been doing all this time? not amassing an army? we know that they can raise wights from dead bodies. there are PLENTY in blackwater bay. they strike at the heart of the 7 Kingdoms in the middle of all the political intrigue: that's kind of the point of the entire series, is that these greedy fools are stepping over each other to consolidate their own power while the long winter creeps up on them. The Winds of Winter will wreak havoc upon Westeros, and I think KL is a likely target.
How will they infiltrate the south though? No one's ever seen any recorded Others activity.

Dialogue was a bit hammy in some scenes, and the pacing was slightly off. Other than that, it's an action flick masterpiece, unafraid to use practical effects to add to its visceral realism.

8/10 from me.

Which was the better Mad Max film?

I loved Fury Road but Road Warrior will always be the quintessential MM movie, IMO. Although Fury Road had a qt redhead.

Also, >ywn die in glorious road combat and find yourself in the gates of Valhalla.

That being said, I have equal respect for both Marvel and DC. I'm no fanboy. I just think it's fucking hilarious that Marvel gets a pass for pushing out half thought out mediocre movies year after year and the very second DC hops onto the live action movie thing they get absolutely canned. After one fucking movie.

You people are so goddamn confusing.
To be fair, MoS wasn't exactly executed as well as it should have been. Although that being said, I definitely agree the DCCU is getting more flak than it should be.

Think of it this way. Marvel was bankrupt and getting panned left right and center by critics in the mid 90s. It was only in the early 2000s with the release of Spider-Man and X-Men movies it began to pick up traction. DC is nowhere near in that kind of position, and there's every possibility DoJ could be its saving grace.

The Flood / Re: Just Saw Mad Max: Fury Road
« on: May 16, 2015, 02:05:23 PM »
I agree with everything you said. I had never seen a Mad Max movie before so there were some things I was confused about at first.

When I got home the original movie just happened to be on TV and I didn't really understand how it went from basically normal to complete insane wasteland in just a couple movies.
way i understand it is mad max 1 is kinda like the setup for the shit to hit the fan. also, each of the movies kinda exists in their own "continuity"- The Road Warrior is like this insane folk legend, almost like the Australian film James Bond, so we get these pseudo-anthology stories about his exploits.
That's pretty cool. I definitely want to check out 2 and 3 now.
I'd skip 3 if I were you, that is unless you enjoy unapologetic kiddie marketing.

I'm really kind of ambivalent about a brexit tbh.

Serious / Re: The UK fox hunting ban
« on: May 16, 2015, 09:29:27 AM »

Come on, man, you can't use what you've seen after a hunt to induce what happened during the hunt. And you certainly can't say that it simply must be worse than the possibility of a misplaced bullet because you've seen a mangled fox's corpse.
I have no problem with a free vote, but this is a pretty flippant argument.

A bullet to the head is one of the most humane methods of ending an animal's life. There's virtually no pain involved. Dogs on the other hand attack their prey by targeting their jugular, leaving the animal to bleed out and die in an abysmal, brutalized manner.

I respect your intellectual honesty on this one, but I really do think you're letting your conservative biases get to you here.

Conservatives are wrong on this one.
The Conservatives have no position. It'll be a free vote.
Obviously, but it's pretty clear they're in support of a repeal.

Serious / Re: The UK fox hunting ban
« on: May 16, 2015, 08:53:03 AM »
I wholeheartedly disagree with this repeal. Hunting animals for bloodsports is perverse, and I don't even care that I'm in agreement with the multitudes of champagne socialists who are opposed to this. Conservatives are wrong on this one.

Also there's a difference between killing foxes because they have become a nuisance on your property, and killing for entertainment purposes. The repeal seems to focus on the latter.

Not to mention how much of your taxes he'll likely be draining what with all the extra paperwork required for death row inmates.

Serious / Re: We can all agree that Ricky Gervais is a cunt, right?
« on: May 15, 2015, 08:43:14 PM »
You have 10 seconds to justify the inhumane murder of animals for entertainment purposes without referring to "MUH FRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDUUUUUUUUMMM MMMMMSS"

And yeah, Giraffes are endangered FYI.
inhumane
Clean shot

Fucking getting killed by an actual predator is what's fucking inhumane. Lions aren't clean. A pack of canines are far from fast killing. Fuck getting mawled by anything, give me a bullet.
The difference being that predators kill prey for sustenance. This on the other hand, was perverse entertainment that should never be lauded.

I'd like to clarify that I have no problem with hunters that actually kill for food/warmth/livelihood. I take caveat with people that purposefully go out of their way to kill simply for the shits and gigs. It's morally disgusting.

You know, it's infantile language like this that turns the debate dysfunctional at the drop of a hat.
I recall you using the words "vegan sperg-out" in a recent, somewhat related thread.

Though we seem to be in agreement on this issue, I can't help but feel this is a blatant double standard.
