Honestly, I really can't get into this game. Quantity over quality is the best way I can describe it. Sure, everything is astronomical in terms of sheer size, but it lacks that general spark that most RPGs require in order for me to be fully immersed. The dialogue options are lacklustre at best, at least compared to other RPG games I've played. Controls are insufferably clunky, and not just the combat. Climbing aboard your horse or trying to do a semblance of acrobatics is downright infuriating. I've had less trouble trying to traverse from place to place in Fable III.

The looting and reward system is horrendously designed. Not only is it a pain in the arse to acquire schematics, to acquire resources, to acquire a singular piece of gear just so you can advance the main quest when playing on a difficulty above normal, but it's a patently obvious antithesis of what an RPG should essentially be about: choice. Side quests are basically compulsory, as opposed to being an optional enhancement to the game, that is, if you actually want to progress Geralt in terms of gear. Main quest loots/rewards almost never yield any significant items that can be aided for combat/alchemy/etc etc.

I honestly have a ton of more criticisms of the game, and I need to play a bit more in order for me to render a final verdict. I think there's some brilliant aspects that have been expertly crafted into the final product too, but they just can't make up for the negatives that detract from my experience. I'm hoping this is remedied as I progress through the game, although it certainly is off to a bad start, at least, IMO.

Just thought I'd throw in a contrasting opinion amongst the irritating echo chamber of the gaming forum so you get a perspective of both sides of the argument, instead of just one big circle jerking opinion, which more often than not, tends to be a regular occurrence here.

Holy fuck Brienne is literally contrivance the character in this show.

I wonder what fucking shit they're going to pull this time that even renders Brienne a snowball's chance in hell against someone like Robert Strong. And you can already fucking guarantee she'll win the fight.

>le stronk womyn who literally faces no adversity faec
odd that you'd rate strong so highly, since we've never seen him fight in his zombified state.
I'm not rating him highly per se, I'm just illustrating that we don't have any indication that Brienne would prove much difficulty to him, unless zombification actually does turn him into a complete hermit.

I mean Oberyn only really took him down due to his speed, and even then, Clegane still managed to knock him down a couple times despite his size hindrance. Brienne is nowhere near the tiers of Oberyn. I've been saying this from day one. Literally all her fights have been complete contrivances.
brienne is much stronger in the show than in the books. i think it would be very GRRM-y for Robert Strong to be built up as this ultimate zombie badass but  in practice end up being weaker than he was in life, shooting down any potential for him to deus ex machina all of cersei's problems away.

now, DnD arent exactly terribly consistent with GRRM's themes. i think this could go either way for a myriad of reasons, logical and illogical.
Idk, I don't mind Brienne being a cool warrior, but it kind of comes off as senseless pandering to the SJW masses sometimes. I would like to see her face a bit of adversity soon, because right now she's just coming off as the GoT female Terminator at this point. Completely detracts from the underlying themes of realism in both the show and the books.

Witcher's ridiculous hit detection for enemies/press a button and wait five years for a response combat.
wat
The hit detection is off the fucking charts. Either my game's glitched or the enemies have been purposefully designed to hit you regardless of whether you evade or not. The Griffin fight was particularly bad for this.
You get hit if you dodge too late. You should use roll too.
Use Aard and Igni to knock them away/stun them after you dodge. Upgrade Quen so it knocks away enemies after it's destroyed. Counter enemy attacks just before they connect.

I had zero problem with the Griffin.

The combat really isn't the problem here.
Nor did I. The hit detection was patently flawed though. As is the combat in general.

It is possible for this game to have criticisms by the way.
I have my own problems with the game, you know.
The map sucks because it's so zoomed in, the movement is a bit clunky, the camera stutter is annoying, horses don't control very well, just to name a few.

The hit detection is fine. I've literally had no problem with the combat, because I have thumbs.
Lol keep shilling your broken game.

I was told this game was going to be leagues above DA: Inquisition, and so far it's about as enjoyable as Fable III is.
lol
Inquisition is designed really bad. It's padded as fuck with shitty MMO-esque side quests just to make it longer than it actually is
Yeah well at least it has cohesive non clunky combat.
You mean MMO combat that requires little effort.

You sound like one of those people that would praise Skyrim

It emphasizes more on tactics rather than just sheer slugfests. Much more interesting than the Witcher's ridiculous hit detection for enemies/press a button and wait five years for a response combat.

So yeah if that's "MMO combat" then I'd much rather have that than what I've experienced in the Witcher so far.

lmao. You literally hold a trigger and occasionally press an action button. So no, it doesn't have well designed combat.
TW3's combat actually requires you to do something. You just suck dick at it.
Cool.

a little annoyed with the loot system, it just lacks a lot
I'm pretty peeved off with the reward system in general. I've completed every quest in White Orchard and all I got for it was coins.

Don't bother with going back to WO. Just make sure you do all the low level quests, follow the Keira Metz subplot, find the Griffin school gear and don't go to Oxenfurt or Novigrad until you've levelled up to at least lv 10 in the rural areas.
That's the thing though, even the low level quests in Velen are infuriating. Hell, I got bumraped by a pack of lvl 5 wolves for a fetch quest the other day. It's not even the difficulty that bothers me. It's the fact that acquiring gear is an absolute puzzling chore.

It's pretty annoying. Why the fuck should I have to do side quests just to get powerful enough to complete the main quest? And why don't main quest missions reward me with gear for that matter? Isn't the whole point of an RPG about choice?

I really hope the game gets better as I progress, because I'm not particularly impressed with some of the design choices so far. I was told this game was going to be leagues above DA: Inquisition, and so far it's about as enjoyable as Fable III is.

You still have the starter gear?  Why? You should have done stuff in White Orchard for new gear, and bought some weapon/armour blueprints.
I did everything in White Orchard, and crafted better weapons and armour. I think I was level 5 by the time I even got to Velen.
Yeah I kinda suspected so. Back to White Orchard then.
Yeah. Make sure you do the Witcher contracts and the other random side quests on the notice boards. Explore the undiscovered locations on the map.
The better gear is almost always a craftable item, so make sure to go to peddlers and the blacksmiths to see if they have blueprints for gear.

The Viper School Witcher sword is the best silver sword you can get from White Orchard, but it's only craftable from a blueprint you get from a side quest.
I've completed basically every quest though, and I've only just scraped into lvl 3. I'm guessing the undiscovered locations are quests too?

Kay so I've just discovered Velen and I'm getting absolutely shrekt by everything I encounter (only on second hardest difficulty). I've still got the gear from the start of the game so I guess that could be a factor? Idk, is there anything I missed in White Orchard? Getting demolished by lvl 5 wolves and Drowners is really killing my immersion. Cheers lads.

Serious / Re: Same-Sex Referendum in Ireland PASSED!
« on: May 24, 2015, 10:36:43 AM »
The only thing that is a bit disheartening is that the Churches will still have a choice on whether or not to wed same-sex couples, which Ireland being a largely Catholic country isn't just going to accept that.
As do Mosques and Synagogues. Should we start forcing those religious institutions to perform gay weddings too?

I know this isn't your contention Irish, but I'd really like to emphasize just how important religious freedom is and why the state does NOT belong there. It's fantastic that gay marriage is now decriminalized in Ireland, but let's not overstep our boundaries and start enforcing morality at gunpoint, even if the beliefs in question are religiously neolithic and outdated.

4737
I'm not seeing the problem here. Does political party funding affect the results of an election and damage the individual's vote? No. The Democrats are just as equally guilty by having rich, champagne socialist Hollywood actors endorse them, and I've yet to see an outcry about that.

I support it. It's the least they could do.
The least they could do is build a monument with public money to a criminal?
You see him as a criminal, whereas they see him as another victim of police violence. It's essentially both. I probably would have chose another guy to be honest, but I get it.
How is he a victim when the evidence attests to the fact that he tried to grab a cop's gun?

I'm not too hot on the police myself, but to suggest he was a victim of police brutality when all the evidence suggests otherwise is nothing short of fallacious.
Im skeptical that he attempted to grab a cops gun. I'll do more research since I forgot most of the details and I'm sure more came out. We'll see, mate.
Brown's DNA was found on Wilson's gun dude.
