The Flood / Re: Avengers Infinity War HYPE THREAD
« on: May 03, 2018, 03:59:47 AM »
Adam from YMS is the exact same, and it's obnoxious as fuck.
i would agree in general, but not so much in re adam

he tends to revile "critics" like cinemasins for doing that sort of thing and making it their gimmick, because it's poisonous for film criticism

when adam nitpicks, he's pretty good at finding ways to justify why it matters to him, and it often boils down to 1.) what the director was intending to do, and 2.) what the film itself is trying to accomplish, and sometimes, it's the little minute details (like having the foresight to tell actors to shout during a scene that will have loud music added later in post, a la The Social Network club scene) that show just how much, or how little, a director cared to go that extra mile

and yeah, sometimes, those minute details can definitely undermine the director's vision, and the lack of foresight or general laziness of it is certainly worthy of criticism

for him, it's about good artistry, and he's never really gotten terribly annoying with that imo

but when cinemasins does it, it's just autism for the sake of autism, and you can tell there's no real rhyme or reason for it
But it's gotten to the point where he will literally overanalyze an irrelevant movie mistake or some trivial character flaw for twenty minutes and then totally forget to actually, you know, review the film. He's virtually incapable of suspending his disbelief over such frivolous details at this point.

Take his latest two YMS reviews for example. A Quiet Place and RPO. I haven't seen RPO, but his Quiet Place review was a fucking joke. He spent at least a good 50% of the review picking apart character decisions he thought were flawed, when in fact, were quite easily explained throughout the film had he been paying attention. Then he had the fucking gaul to use the "you're just not using ur brain ugh ugh plebs" card.

Nothing of structure was mentioned. Nothing about character development nor overall entertainment value were examined. I think he briefly touched upon acting for a couple seconds and then immediately went into his autistic nitpicking frenzy.

It's fine to point out plot holes or details you found were a little hammy, but if it literally consumes your entire experience of the film then I'm sorry to say, the issues lie with you, not the movie.

>Why did Cap and Co. waste time getting War Machine? Just call him and tell him to meet them at the edge of Wakanda, they might have had time to get Vision's stone out.
>Why didn't Tony send the other suits to help him in the NY fight?
>Why didn't Squidward just kill Strange and let Thanos rip the stone from the corpse? He wouldn't have failed, he was just unable to get the stone off the body himself.
>Why did token black guy teleport Hulk away instead of Thor? Banner does literally nothing for the entirety of the film and the dude knew Thor better than angry green man.
>How did Thor teleport back to Earth without token black guy? No one has ever been shown to have teleport magic.
>Why didn't purple Bruce Willis just teleport closer to Vision and Scarlet Witch?
>Why didn't Black Panther just use kinetic energy armor to blast all the Zerglings away when they overran him.
>Why is Black Panther's sister still such a massive bitch?
>Why didn't Strange just teleport Squidward away like they did with Axe dude?
>Why didn't Thanos immobilize Quill like he did with the others?
>Why didn't he do that on Titan?
>Why didn't the Titan govt. kill or lock up Thanos for his crazy idea?
>Why would Gamora keep the knife of her father whom she hates?
>Why didn't she just use the knife to kill herself so Thanos couldn't get the soul stone?
>How does Skeletor know everything about Thanos?
>Since his mission is complete, Thanos should use five of the six stones to destroy one so no one can use it again to revert his actions.
>If Loki and Thor had the space cube, why didn't they use it all during the events of Ragnarok? Or against Thanos?
>What would Nick Fury had done if Thanos killed Capt. Marvel at random?
>Why didn't Thanos use the gauntlet to induce celibacy? It would solve a lot of degenerate problems on Earth.
>If Thanos is killing half the universe at random, is he included? Wouldn't that also kill more than half other races around the universe possibly or make an entire race go extinct? Trillions is a big number.
>If Thanos by himself is so powerful he can beat Hulk, why did he waste ten years sending goons out to collect the stones?
>Why didn't he just spend one of those ten years fighting in the Holy Grail War? Using the Grail to kill everybody almost worked for Karl.
>Is Thanos the Avatar? Master of all four elements six Infinity Stones? Who will bring balance to the world universe by defeating the Fire Nation The Avangers.
I have my qualms with the film but Jesus Christ, if you can't suspend your disbelief over a couple insignificant minutiaes of the film then what the fuck are you doing there. Unless it's some glaringly obvious plot hole that can't be explained, shut the fuck up.

Adam from YMS is the exact same, and it's obnoxious as fuck. If you're enjoyment of the film is ruined because of your autistic nitpicking then you're the problem, not the film.

The Flood / The Terror general
« on: May 01, 2018, 02:23:56 PM »

Anyone else watching? Pretty kino show with a lot of great period acting and atmospheric horror. It's a fictional rendition of the real life event of the HMS Terror and HMS Erebus' expedition through the Northwest passage with a supernatural twist.

The best I can compare it to is early GoT with elements of Deadwood, Black Sails and Rome. Highly recommended desu's.

I don't understand how the ending was "gutsy."
you're pretty much alone on that
Erm, not really.

Probably about 90% of the characters that died have confirmed sequels in the pipeline. The original Avengers remained untouched. You can pretty much see the Deus Ex Machina coming from a mile away.

So it's a legitimate opinion to have, and I too share it.

The movie wasn't anything special but that scene was A+ horror right there.
This scene could have been plucked out of The Three Stooges for how unintentionally comical it was.

Does anyone else think Thor, Loki and Hulk fucked everything up in retrospect? I mean, if they hadn't killed Hela in Ragnarok and took the space stone off Asgard Thanos would have never accomplished anything. She would have literally turned that grapefruit inside out had he tried anything.

Why would she have been more successful than Thor?
Thor threw everything he had at her including his unlocked abilities and it didn't do anything. Considering it's implied she's literally unstoppable as long as Asgard exists, and Thanos was depicted to be somewhat mortal in IW, I think it's pretty evident who the victor would be.

It was okay.

The character juggling was handled better than I expected but there was some semblance of favouritism I found. I think Cap had what, like 10 lines in total? I barely remember him in this film at all.

Thanos is good, probably the best MCU villain they have to offer right now, although that's not saying much. His motives were pretty retarded though. They basically turned him into a cosmic pest controller. "Hurr durr cull half the population of a literal infinite universe because there's not enough mouths to feed durr". Whatever Russo's.

I did however like the guilt character arc they're going with him, especially that dream sequence segment with kid Gamora. Feel like they could incorporate more of that into their film's.

I thought Disney were actually going to be ballsy with the culling act of the film but then I realised that none of the main Avengers were affected in any way, and 90% of the characters that died have already several sequels in the pipeline, so I don't really feel like their deaths are going to be all that impactful.

Overall it was a fairly watchable experience that I have no particular interest in seeing again. Pretty much what I expected from a MCU film bar a couple of tidbits that surprised me.

6/10

The crime lord segment is by far the weakest part of the game. There's also a haphazardly constructed quest involving Djisktra that you can easily miss, which if you don't pick up on, omits an entire new storyline later on involving Radovid, which I think is kind of bullshit. CDPR obviously dropped the ball on this portion of the game.

Once you get to Skellige the game becomes kino again though.

Nobody is contesting the fact that these movies make money. In fact, I'd argue that's precisely why they warrant a lot more criticism than normal because other studios are starting to replicate the shared cinematic universe formula in order to catch the crumbs. Quite poorly too, I might add.

It's all well and good to say speak with your wallet, and not with your mouth, and yeah, that's partly true. But if you don't at least try and point out to people that these films only exist to appeal to the lowest common denominator, and original titles should be experienced too, then you're not helping the industry explore new avenues either, and you're just as complacent in the saturation of garden-variety blockbusters in the marketplace.

Did my post change your mind in any way? What makes you sure that you will change anyone else’s mind?
I don't. People are going to enjoy what they want to enjoy, and that's perfectly fine, even if I personally think their tastes are garbage. I don't expect anyone to suddenly refund their Infinity War tickets because they saw a couple of my shitposts on the internet.

I would however, like to think I can encourage people to broaden their horizons, and that there is more to film than capeshit and RDJ quips.

You guys expect too much. The whole point of a blockbuster is you switch your brain off and enjoy the spectacle. If you want thought provoking movies you go to the indie shows.
Oh fuck right off with this mentality. Just because something isn't an obscure art house piece doesn't give it a free pass to be exempt from critical analysis.

Attitudes like this are exactly why franchises like the MCU don't bother changing up the formula, or at the very least, introducing new concepts.

The Flood / Re: Avengers Infinity War HYPE THREAD

I feel like I would enjoy this franchise more if it wasn't for its obnoxiously soylent fanbase of nu-males.

That and I don't expect this to be anything different from what we've had before. 18 movies in and what, 1 character has died that had a whopping total of like half an hour screen time?

The MCU has always been a soulless, conveyor belt series of movies, totally uninterested in taking risks with their characters. Mildly entertaining at best, saccharine trash at their worst. If they don't do anything ballsy in the finale of the franchise they're pretty much never going to do it.

As others have said, you're never going to come across someone who is 100% non partisan. People are always going to have their ideological convictions regardless of how miniscule they may be.

That being said, Kraut and Tea comes across as a so called skeptic™  that isn't bandwagoning the alt right anti SJW brigade even though he is techinally opposed to what SJWs advocate. He's called out Yiannopoulous and Molyneux for their patently obvious bullshit and has been an avid critic of the /Pol/e smokers.

When did we get Camnator back?

When they tried to break off from the UK they even played Braveheart all day long to evoke some weird kind of patriotism (that movie was shit btw, overrated and shit).
That was an obnoxious minority back in the '14 election. I shit you not we had twats in cars flying their flags out and heckling people in the streets. I even had a pro indy wanker challenge me outside a polling station to find out if I had voted "properly", which I'm pretty sure wasn't legal. Back then most Scots really didn't give a fuck about independence and felt just as British as the next Englander, hence the results.

Although with the result of Brexit they might not be a minority any more.
