Abrams stated she's his favourite character so I imagine she has more characterisation in the next installments.
There was also supposed to be a scene for how Poe managed to get back to the Resistance after him and Finn crash landed on Jakku, and a political intrigue scene for Leia's sleeper agent within the New Republic. All of them got axed, so I guess you can chalk up lack of Capt. Phasma screen time to time management.

I have no doubt we'll find an effective means of disposing waste material in the next couple decades.

Also, where does Rey even learn the force? It's like she finds out it exists and isn't just a fairy tale,then all of a sudden she's just an expert using it and a lightsaber. No training or anything.
It's implied that Rey is far more in tune with the force than Kylo is. Not to mention that Kylo had just killed off a character that had been close to him, distorting his focus over the force or whatever.

Solid movie but the hype killed it for me. Played it a bit safe at times, but it needed to in order to introduce an array of new characters in the space of a couple hours. Overall 7.5/10. Third best in the franchise.
Interested to see how Finn plays into all this in the future films too. I hope he isn't just comic relief for the entire trilogy.

On a side note one of the main gripes I had about the film is the transitioning of Finn from the First Order to the Resistance.
I mean hating the neo-empire is one thing, but they made him cross the line a little too fast. He went from holding a comrade in Saving Private Ryan type moment to indiscriminately shanking his former squadmates on a laser sword within all of about half a day.
Is he hesitant to kill? Is he not? You'd think he'd feel some shred of sympathy for the people he trained with his entire life based on how he reacts right up to the TIE escape scene where he starts blasting the hangar crew. He even said it himself, he's just one among countless orphans stolen and raised by the FO since birth. So he levels with the other Troopers to some degree and isn't a sociopath.
He's a great character, and John Boyega stole the show IMO, but the way his character development was handled was just jarring.

Not sure what everyone's so booty tickled about. Ever since the prequels fans have been screaming for a return to the format of the OT and that's exactly what you've all been given. People moaning that TFA is too similar to ANH are either prequel fanboys or flagrant hypocrites.
Han was supposed to die in RotJ but Lucas wanted to shill the movie for more money. His death was an inevitability at this point, it was just a question of which movie in the new trilogy.
